The Cardinals knew about this before A.J. did...

The guy who is hitting .277 since the start of May with power and plays excellent defense?

Pretty good timing given that Valbuena just tweaked his back in an ab.

Or was he pulled because he's being dealt?

Would be odd timing to finalize a deal during the game.

If there was a chance of him about to be dealt, they likely don't start him at all. He did legitimately hurt his back.

Not saying it's happening, but guys get pulled from games all the time because they've been dealt. Wouldn't call that odd at all.

Watching the game it's clear that Valbuena tweaked his back on a swing.

I would think this guarantees that Worth stays up and Kemp goes down.

Really not trying to be that guy, but my expectations are pretty low for Reed for some reason. Maybe it's just a gut feeling. Glad that we have sabermetrics now and not just my BS :p

Why wouldn't Worth be sent down? I know Gattis/Valbuena/Reed are redundant, but with Marwin, you could easily swing him to 2nd and Reed @ 1st in a pinch.

If Val's out for awhile, Worth and Marwin are your 2 3Bmen.

It was likely going to between Kemp and Worth, but if Valbuena is hurt then Worth likely stays and Kemp goes down. Platoon Marwin/Reed at first, Worth/Marwin at third, Reed/Gattis at DH.

Exactly why would they DFA Valbuena?

Reed is going to be an everyday player... and given how Marwin basically is an everyday player, I see him playing 3B exclusively if Valbuena is hurt.
