either the studio is getting it wrong in which case they screw up the movie or the director got it wrong in which case the movie is probably screwed.

The trailer looks fantastic visually. Don't like a few of the characters costumes. They look like generic sci-fi characters. The stereotype and typecasting of Donnie Yen having to be some martial arts master fighting with some wooden staff against guys in armor with laser blasters is really silly. I really a hope a lot of the diverse cast that are foreigners will speak in an alien language instead of their English accents, but i doubt it. Luna, Yen, Wen all have very thick accents that will throw me off. A diverse cast that still makes you think of stereotypes. It would have been much more fitting to get British or Australian Black and Asian actors. Diego Luna's English might be the most distracting for me personally. I mean why do they all have to be human also? Some of them could have been put into costumes of different species.

I understand the EU is no longer canon as far as the species and i understand this was the 2nd death star plans. But, does everyone forget "Many Bothans died to bring us this information." - Mon Mothma. How unique would that have been to have a Star Wars film use a different species other than humans as the main characters in an Avatar style? Again, i understand it was the 2nd Death Star plans she was referring to, but you could have had Bothans helping Jyn Erso and a couple of other humans.

Maybe it's just me, but it's just odd having Disney kick us in the back of our legs down to our knees and FORCE diversity in to us. Watch A New Hope. I don't think there is a single non white person in the entire film. I think maybe there's a black x-wing pilot that's shown for a split second.

SO...am i to believe that this extremely diverse cast was sent on some suicide mission for the important all white x-wing pilots? Even the non humans were more important than that of blacks, asians and latinos. Operation Human Shield consisting of black people, asians and latinos?

Given it's the first in what will likely be a long run of almost annual money, they need to get it right. So I'm glad they stopped, looked around, and are going back to work. Even if they lose money to reshoot it will payoff in the long run investment. I expect they will deliver good content because they really want the long term dollars.

Sounds like Disney didn't like the idea of a darker-toned movie. They want something more upbeat, family-friendly, and marketable.

Too bad we won't get to see this version of the movie when it comes out. Sounds and looks badass.

Welp, this sounds disastrous. 40% of the damn film? Director and studio disagree on the tone of the film? I had high hopes and the trailer looked awesome but this is incredibly disappointing. Gonna be a jumbled mess.

    http://www.chron.com/entertainment/...Vader-Will-Be-Back-in-Rogue-One-A-8318389.php

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” will see a band of rebel spies facing off against the man in black himself, Darth Vader.
The Sith lord’s involvement in the new film has been rumored for some time, but official confirmation comes courtesy of the new Entertainment Weekly cover (pictured below) released Wednesday.

“Rogue One,” set before the events of the original “Star Wars” film, follows a ragtag band of outlaws who hatch a plan to steal the plans to the Death Star.

The film’s protagonist will be Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), a galactic outlaw who has come up against both the Empire and the Rebellion. She is given a chance to clear her record if she assists in stealing the Death Star schematics.

“Rogue One” is directed by Gareth Edwards (“Godzilla”) and stars Jones, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Diego Luna and Forest Whitaker. Mikkelsen is set to play Erso’s father, a scientist with knowledge crucial to both sides.

“Star Wars: Episode VIII” will hit theaters in 2017, followed by a standalone Han Solo origin film. Alden Ehrenreich was recently cast as the young Corellian smuggler turned Rebel hero.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” flies into theaters on Dec. 16.

    Rogue One Character Details Revealed!
    http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/697567-rogue-one-character-details-revealed

Following the cover reveal this morning, EW is back with more details on the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story characters. You can check out portraits of each new Rogue One character in the gallery and read all about them below.

First up is Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso, about whom Lucasfilm president and Rogue One producer Kathleen Kennedy says: “She’s got a checkered past. She has been detained [by the Rebellion] and is being given an opportunity to be useful. And by being useful, it may commute her sentence.”

Next is Diego Luna’s Captain Cassian Andor, who is described as a “by-the-book Rebel intelligence officer” who is “committed, steady, and practical, and has seen more than his share of combat.” “He conveys a fair amount of experience and the reality of what it’s like to do this every day, to try to figure out how to resist the Empire effectively and intelligently,” Kiri Hart, Lucasfilm’s chief of story development said of the character. “It’s not easy.”

Donnie Yen’s Chirrut Imwe, pronounced chi-RUT, is perhaps the most interesting new addition as it’s been revealed he’s not actually a jedi but a man “devoted to their ways” who has used his spiritual beliefs to overcome his own physical handicap of blindness. “Chirrut falls into the category of being a warrior monk,” says Kennedy. “He very much still believes in everything the Jedi were about.”

Next we have Jiang Wen’s Baze Malbus, who is described as “heavily armored” and a loyal friend of Chirrut, while Riz Ahmed’s Bodhi Rook is the lead pilot of the group, described as “hot-headed” by Lucasfilm.

Alan Tudyk’s motion capture character K-2SO is described as “the antithesis of C-3PO” by Gareth Edwards. “Kaytoo is a little bit like Chewbacca’s personality in a droid’s body,” Edwards says. “He doesn’t give a s— about what you think. He doesn’t fully check himself before he says things and does things. He just speaks the truth.”

Mads Mikkelsen’s Galen Erso, the estranged father of Jyn, is described as the Star Wars version of the father of nuclear weapons, J. Robert Oppenheimer, and the kind of scientist that both the Rebellion and Empire are eager to use to their advantage. “He’s one of those people that has insight into you know specific aspects of just how the universe works,” says Hart. The picture of Mikkelsen below isn’t his actual costume in the film, which Lucasfilm isn’t yet ready to reveal.

Ben Mendelsohn’s Director Orson Krennic is the primarily villain of the film, who we now know is the leader of the Deathtroopers previously seen in the teaser trailer. The outlet reveals that he’s hoping to squash the Rebels with his soldiers to gain favor with the Emperor, all while “avoiding the wrath” of Darth Vader. “The bad guy is a lot more terrifying when he’s really smart, and really effective,” says executive producer John Knoll. “There is a lot of palace intrigue going on in the Empire, with people conspiring to move up the ranks and sabotaging each other. There’s not a lot of loyalty there.”

Finally, we have Forest Whitaker’s character, whose name has not yet been revealed but is said to be someone Star Wars fans will “recognize immediately” when his name is known, despite that he looks quite different from how he has previously been seen in Star Wars canon.

It's nearly impossible in the internet/social media era, but man...would have been awesome being surprised by the Darth Vader appearance while seeing the movie for the first time rather than know about it months beforehand.

Thrilled to have Jones doing the voice, but it rings as a little tone-deaf to say that Jones will reprise his role as Darth Vader, as though David Prowse had nothing to do with it; the physically imposing aspect of Vader was at least as important as his voice, and Prowse was the man who gave us that physical presence after all.. even though Lucas has apparently made it his sorry life's work to ruin what's left of the man's life. Saw him and Mayhew at Comicpalooza this past weekend.. man both of those guys are getting so old.

You can get another big body builder with similar measurements to Prowse in order to fill the suit. You can't go get some voice actor to go in the studio and read lines in some wannabe JEJ voice or a different voice all together.

Some people may be used to other voices, but it really bugs me and it's too noticeable when JEJ doesn't do it.

Not to mention there's a big fight scene that takes place on a beach planet, and we all know how much he hates sand!
