Maybe to get him some work... hadn't pitched in 5 days. I've never trusted Sipp though. Even when he 0 ERs, there seems to be drama involved. Springer robbed that GS vs TEX last season with Tony on the mound. ____ TWO different bars tonight... Angels broadcast was shown both times... lol and smh
Apparently you missed September and the playoffs, where he really was the only reliable reliever. Perhaps he needs more regular work, as you suggested.
Not sure why mlb.com and espn both show Neshek with a save. According to the rules, he didn't qualify.
Fun fact: Kole Calhoun won a gold glove last year. He has 4 errors this year -- 3 have come against the Astros.
This isn't related to the Astros, but Red Sox apparently inquired about getting Gerrit Cole or Jose Fernandez. They were told they would have to give up one of Boggarts/Betts.
Chance to get back to .500 tonight, and only 4 games out of the 2nd wild card spot. While certainly not where we hoped to be starting the year, we're very much in the mix to make the playoffs. Gomez appears to be completely out of whatever stupor he was in to start the year. And while he hasn't come close to his elite defensive rep, his defensive WAR is still in the positive territory. Would be like a huge midseason trade if he hits like the guy he's been the last 4 years. Fister was awesome yet again. I've been very down on him since I saw his terrible velocity to start the year, but he has been a savior thus far. We would still be some deep s**t if he wasn't so awesome.
I'm more excited about Correa looking more and more locked in with each AB's (drawing walks and hitting with power), and Keuchel's peripherals improving with each and every start. With as much individual struggling that this team has had to weather (haven't even touched on Giles, McHugh, LMJ, or the 1B/DH black hole), they are very much in the thick of the race with a lot of aspects looking to trend upwards. Also, the Rangers can't possibly continue to win every single 1 run game, can they?
To be honest, They somehow have a great bullpen, but as I've stated there luck will change in second half, or in the playoffs.
He's playing a lot better, but his K% is still a lot higher than normal (small sample size caveat) leading me to think he's still only maybe 80% of what he was last season.
Can't figure out if you're saying the somehow great bullpen's luck will change and they'll become bad.... Or you're giving the bullpen the bulk of the credit for keeping them in the race (which would be totally accurate... Along with Altuve being Altuve and Springer being one of the most complete players in baseball).
Saves: Rule 10.20 in the Official Rule Book states: Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions: (1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and (2) He is not the winning pitcher; and (3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions: - (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or - (b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces; or - (c) He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game. For me he did saved the game, but not according to the rules.
Thus, my confusion as to why they were not only crediting him with a save in both the box score and in the write-up of the game. However, overnight they removed the save from his stats as well as the write-ups.
We've been very fortunate with him, but no question he has been hugely important. He's basically what Colby Lewis has been for the Rangers. Keuchel's FIP, xFIP, and SIERA are between 3.32 and 3.78. While we need better than that from Keuchel (unless someone steps into an ace role), those are the numbers of a guy that you should be able to count on. McHugh is also between 3.69 and 3.98. Definitely gives me hope those guys will turn it around.

seeing the angels lineup tonight. No Pujols. Just imagine if Trout was out. They seriously by far would have the worst lineup in MLB. lol
