Heck there's probably a good argument that Horford and Conley getting the max will result in regretful contracts as neither are superstars or have any real upside left. It's going to be stupid money flying everywhere for a couple of years.
Think of it this way though. If you don't participate in the feeding frenzy, you aren't going to have the aggregation of talent that you need to be competitive in the trading market as well. There is some value in overpaying stars that will give you return on investment. There is no value in overpaying stars that won't be tradeable, e.g. Barnes.
I think they're the same level of player. Parsons is a much more well rounded offensive player. Barnes is significantly better at perimeter and post defense. Barnes is also a better set shooter from anywhere, with a decent post game for small guards. The real question is, can Barnes be a full time 4. That's what will determine his worth.
True if you just look for on side of the game though...Parsons can't defend to save his life and seems to have too many injuries lately.
Harden was a bum during the finals for OKC too. He still got paid, I feel like Barnes will get paid as well.
Barnes is so worth the MAX! he makes Ariza look special........ Just wait till you see Horford and Conley. 1 tier higher SCRUBS getting max.
Everyone could see Harden was loaded with talent. Barnes is straight trash but you're right someone will overpay like always.
if it wasn't for the injuries, and I had the same money I rather 10/10 times pay Parsons than Barnes. I really really hope we don't make the mistake to go max Barnes.
Barnes better have the game of his life on Sunday, or he can kiss a lot of money goodbye. I thought it was ridiculous, but inevitable, that someone would give him max money before... no way now.
Prior to injuries, Parsons was not only a blue collar fast 6'9 combo forward but he moved his feet the most out of anybody in the league. Dude was fast and cut to the basket and was a great high flying finisher. Can create for others, shoot the 3, etc... A healthy Chandler Parsons was somebody Ariza couldn't hold a candle to even in his Laker days.
barnes is a solid player. but no more than that. if the weakest link in the gsw starting 5 is worth a max, then what should the rest of them get paid?
Based on this series, Barnes will not be getting the max. Actually, he probably will just because, but I don't see how or why.
