Late firsts and seconds rarely hit. You can look at guys in hindsight and criticize GMs for passing on them but you'd have to criticize 15-29 GMs for passing on that player. Morey did hit on Parsons, Brooks (given what he have is before being flipped for Dragic), maybe Capela. Donates isn't bad (and we dumped Brad Miller in drafting him, pretty sure Donates was always our guy). Honestly the stuff you are listing makes me believe you'd be a garbage GM. He's competent which is hard to find (we had CD before ugh) and the good greatly outweighs the bad. Keep in mind we have an owner who disallows tanking.
Umm you mad at Patterson over Larry Sanders? lmao Patrick Patterson >>> Larry Sanders. Guy was a headcase.
Some of OP's logic, evaluating moves as "bad moves", is more head-scratching than the actual bad moves that Morey has made.
It's bold to post a new thread when you don't read any other threads. This is the most discussed topic on Clutchfans at the moment.
Who has Morey drafted other than Royce white that has been a bust ? Getting NBA players in the late first / second round is a pretty good deal . In any given draft , landing a star player outside of the top 10 is exceedingly rare . The only franchise to draft as well or better with similar picks has been the Spurs . If you are number 2 to the Spurs that's a good thing . Morey doesn't have a popovich to develop and coach players he drafts either . The current King GS ... Curry number 7 , Barnes top 10 , Thompson number 6 . They had high draft picks and hit . Same with okc a few years ago . Same with Portland a few years ago . Luck and injuries matter a great deal . We had a down season . The sky is falling ?!?!?! Yeah it looks bad , but we can change direction quickly becuase our GM remained fairly flexible and the cap increase .
Anyone in need of a decent PG would've taken Ty. Can't blame Morey for Ty's talent flushing down the breathalyzer.
So necessary, but Morey is in the right city to get away with mediocrity and subpar idiotic moves year after year. The fans worship him like hes accomplished anything lol what a bunch of simple doofs. What a gig Morey has.

I didn't see the October 2012 trade for James Harden on this list.

The Rockets send Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb and future draft considerations to the Thunder for Harden, sources tell Y! You ignore ALL the blunders and hold on to his attention w**** FA lust chasing and that suffice for you even after he reoeatedly fall flat on his face. Yet you say he knows what hes doing. Yes he does, brainwashing mindless numb followers/defenders/worshippers like you. This team is more disfunctional and non respected across the league than its ever been. This team is a laughi g stock and a doormat, you obviously didnt see the Curry-less Warriors put on a clinic on this Morey built Rockets team. These fans are so simple and delusional its really embarassing.
Depends on what you mean by bust. Is T-Jones a bust? Maybe not in the technical sense, but he's a bad NBA player who won't be here next year and may be lucky to get an offer of more than 5 mil a season from any other team, even under the new cap. Is Sam Dekker a bust? So far, I'd say absolutely. But obviously there's still time for him to contribute something to this team so that it doesn't wind up being a wasted pick. As to your second point, you pretty much spelled it out. The two teams in the WCF built their rosters primarily through high draft picks as a result of bad seasons. OKC has now made it to the WCF(or further) in 4 of the last 6 seasons. Golden State is in their 2nd consecutive WCF, won the title last year, and will contend for many years to come. I get that Les doesn't wanna tank. But he needs to get over this aversion he has to sub-.500 seasons and understand that the best way toward building a title contender that will be competitive for a long time(i.e. 5-10 years) is through the draft. Of course there are no guarantees when it comes to ping pong balls and lottery picks. But I'd rather roll the dice on those than bet everything on the hope that some big name free agent or two(or three) will sign here somewhere down the road.
Yes but Morey takes orders from Les . I'm sure Morey has tried convincing him that tanking was the best thing to do . TJ is interesting . Would people have considered him a bust after his second season when he was very productive for a player of his experience . The last two years he's been injured / and hasn't improved . I think you can't call him a bust especially for being the number 18 overall pick .
And the only reason we got Harden was because OKC didn't wanna spend a few extra million a year on his salary and risk paying the luxury tax. I'm sorry, but this is not how you build a contender. You can't sit around and wait for other teams to panic or screw up and try to capitalize on that. You have to have a plan of your own that doesn't require someone else bailing you out. What was the Rockets' backup plan had OKC managed to negotiate an extension with Harden back in 2012? That was rhetorical, BTW. They didn't have one.
Scorching hot, this take. Never heard anything like this before; certainly not in several recent threads about this very same topic.
I wouldn't call T-Jones a bust simply because the Rockets did get some decent minutes out of him over 3+ seasons and a few good playoff performances in 2015(Games 1 & 5 vs Dallas, Games 6 & 7 vs Clippers), but overall he's been a failure as a player in the NBA. The fact that there's zero interest by the front office or the fans to see him return next season tells you all you need to know. I'm not denying that Les is the real problem here and not Morey. But Morey is a grown ass man. He's a decent enough GM that he probably could get a gig with another team immediately were he to be fired or step down. He can give Les an ultimatum. Let me build the team from the ground up through the draft or find someone else to be your puppet in the front office. Cuz he's doing himself no favors by continuing to do the same thing over and over again while the reputation of both him and the Rockets organization goes down the toilet.
