Noooo. These athletes are race cars. It is like comparing the 1966 Ford GT40 that swept the podium taking first, second and third Spoiler to last years Williams-Mercedes F1 showing that failed to win a race but was thought of very highly by other drivers.
http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1308386 you opened up the can of worms so... I still think Hakeem was a great player, but let's get some facts straight and not make him some kind of deity.
Stating that Hakeem is a better than Harden isn't putting him at deity status. That's like saying Hakeem is better than Gilbert Arenas. Obvious...
Why would anyone here care about the opinion of a random Realgm poster? So do you agree with that thread's premise that Hakeem is the most overrated player of all time?
Hakeem never became the great player that you remember until he was 31. Before that, his team frequently missed playoffs or got eliminated in the 1st round. Hakeem in regular season was nothing exceptional, he was individually great, but his team didn't win that much. The fact that Harden has already led his team to the 3rd and 5th highest winning record (56, 54 wins) in the rockets franchise history proves Hakeem's team didn't have that much of success in the regular season.
Are you an Arizona State alum or from LA? Because I'm assuming you are not a Rocket's fan and a HOF if your source to defend your point is in agreement with a post that states that HAKEEM IS THE MOST OVERRATED PLAYER IN NBA HISTORY. NOT ONE CLUTCH FANS MEMBER WOULD EVEN DARE TO DEFEND ANY OF THE POINTS OF THAT PREMISE WITH A ONE MILE LONG POLE.
those are all verifiable facts, not just some random guy's opinion. Hakeem in his early career was known to be extremely selfish and was derided as a 'black hole'. Again, Hakeem became much better player after age 30, but it's not like he was always that good. When Hakeem was Harden's age, you couldn't say Hakeem was definitively much better. Harden has been voted as 2nd in MVP when he was 25. Hakeem only came 2nd in MVP when he was 30.
stop whining, I can just as accuse you of being a fake Houston fan for hating on Harden so much. Hakeem was a great player, but he had his fair share of drawbacks. I'm just highlighting that to make a point that comparison with Harden is legitimate.
Lol a harden led team has lost in the first round 3 out of the 4 years he's been here and was sitting on the bench in the most important game in their run last year. your harden only fan logic makes ü blind to everything else
Untill Harden wins two rings, the comparison IS ILLEGITIMATE. If anything, Harden's current trend only suggests that by age 30 he will be an overweight gelatinous blob akin to a Zach Randolph type player if he doesn't start caring about his conditioning and weight.
maybe you're dyslexic but the comparison was about regular season numbers. In the playoffs, Hakeem was better and I already stated that. But, Hakeem only had legitimate playoff success as the main guy after age 30. He did go to the finals with Ralph Sampson in 84-85, but that's like counting Harden going to the finals as OKC.
Do you have any counter evidence, or just gonna keep whining? I'm talking about regular season numbers, in the playoffs Hakeem was definitely better. typical response since ü tried to use Hakeem's first round exits as support for what pure trying to push. Just proves the point of your harden nut riding blinding you
typical response since I was responding to fchowd0311 making this conversation about playoffs. maybe you should drop nostalgic view of past players, and learn objective facts about NBA history. http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1308386
