Fairly decent 50 win team? lol. You guys don't want to give this man ANY credit. I don't care who he is personally. Good coaching is good coaching All is know is the Warriors were sub.500 when he got there. They won 47 games the next year. Then won 51 the year after w/ injuries. Mark Jackson is a VERY good coach & the numbers do not lie
Exactly. So from what I'm getting you don't like the man's religious preference, so therefore he's not qualified to coach here? Wins & losses are irrelevant
When a head coach instead of coaching is more interested in giving sermons, alienanting players who arent religious and turning the team against each other yes. No interest. Hes not hired to be the teams priest. Hes hired to be the teams coach.
You sound like Warriors PR team Lets talk results. Mark Jackson did a fantastic job turning that team from absolutely nothing to a 50+ win team in 2 seasons. Basketball wise, he's the best person to coach the Rockets. Personal wise? I could careless what he is. The Rockets need a coach that can get us back on track ASAP
which just happened to coincide with teaming up Curry and Thompson among an influx of other talent fact remains he lead a 73 win team to a 51 win season and had well documented issues dealing not only with management but his own assistants. you have a weak argument and need to let this thread go the way of Jackson's coaching career...
Lets talk results yes. Not understanding that playing iso ball doesnt fit his personell. Not understanding that lee's godawful empty stats was harming his team and he was more suited off the bench. Fighting with his team starting C in Bogut because he was didnt accept his sermons and destroying on purpose team chemistry with the shenanigans he did with Ezeli. Getting them to 50 wins? Nope they won that IN SPITE of him because of their talent. When that obstacle was removed we all witnessed what happened with the warriors. And as for you couldnt care less? So you couldnt care less if the team couldnt now get a top free agent because he happens to be of another religion, an atheist or doesnt care that much about church.
OKAY! 1. Dungy was with the Bucs for 5 years (it was time to move on) 2. He went to the Colts to coach Peyton Manning 3. Some believe he underachieved with the greatest QB of all time playing at his peak. (I love Dungy, but Peyton should have more rings than he does) Dungy is the anomaly, not the norm. The Broncos got rid of Fox and were able to win the Superbowl (even with a broken Peyton), because Kubes/Philips was able to get more out of the defense (BETTER COACH). Fox had a terrible season with the Bears. No one disagrees that GS got better when they fired Jackson. I don't want a coach whose absence/replacing made a team take the next step. That is normal logic. If someone can't get one team of elite talent to take that next step, whey would it be any different here.
Weak argument? Wins & losses are the ONLY argument. Thibbs, JVG & Adelman all had issues w/ management before. Should they be dismissed too? Everything you just typed makes no sense So you want to talk results by not talking results 51 wins in spite of him? Lmaoooooooooooo. So the team coached itself thru injuries to 51 wins & got better every year since he got there? Mark Jackson, the HEAD COACH, had nothing to do with that? Talk about hogwash. For the record, almost EVERY COACH has issues with players. It's part of the game. Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, Greg Popovich etc...Just say you don't like the guy for non basketball reasons and keep it moving. As a Rocket fan I only care about wins & losses
Imagine JVG as head coach JB as lead assistant Mark Jackson as 2nd assistant coach Harden would become a lock down defender
He's an okay defensive coach who can't work with anyone and doesn't have an offensive clue. Under Jackson, they were a mediocre offensive team with Curry and Thompson already in place. That's pretty silly. Yeah, it's great that he instilled discipline on a young team. I'd like to think you can find a coach capable of doing that without being a crushingly terrible person to work with.
He doesn't have to be, but it would be nice to see him improve in that area. Problem is, I don't think any of these coaches would stop him from ISO-heavy hero ball, especially in the 4th quarter.
Religious nut job who led virtually the same championship roster to 47 wins and 51 wins. Big whoop. The players developed into all stars. I really don't think he can take much credit, maybe can even be blamed for holding them back. This guy was ran out of the Warriors classy organization and burned every bridge there. He has an ******* face and an ******* voice. Why this thread is 6 pages is beyond me. Delete this garbage and delete Mark Jackson from the NBA. I don't even want him on ESPN anymore, go put him in Knicks or Pacers or Clippers home games. Take him off national tv.
Dude, you need to actually watch the games before and after Jackson. Watch how the ball moves, watch the action on the weakside, watch how they screen for Curry off the ball and get it to him in good spots on the move, watch how they react to traps and double teams off the PnR. Golden State was good in spite of Jackson's coaching, not because of him. If you actually watch how they play, it's no big surprise they jumped from 12th to 2nd in offensive efficiency (.1 away from 1st) the moment they fired him. Numbers definitely can lie when you're looking at the wrong numbers.
First off, do you know how hard it is to take a sub.500 lottery team and make them a 51 win team in 2 1/2 seasons? lol. You are ridiculously delusional if you think Mark Jackson doesn't deserve credit for that. There have been PLENTY of teams with tons of talent that went nowhere because of bad coaching. Jackson's coaching produced instant results. Steve Kerr inherited a 51 plus win team, Jackson inherited a lottery team rebuilding. You don't know the difference? Or are you playing stupid because you're personal dislike? Either way Jackson's resume is impressive
Do you know how hard it is to take a 51 win team to 73 wins? It has literally never been done before in the history of basketball. Either Kerr, in his first two seasons coaching, is the best coach in history, better than Popovich, Riley, and Phil Jackson, or Mark Jackson was holding them back. Seriously, watch the games. Under Mark they were a stagnant, sloppy, inefficient team, backed by Mike Malone's defensive system and Steph Curry's shooting.
