Another fan target, Martellus Bennett, traded to New England. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Teams finalizing deal, but Chicago and New England are expected to swap mid-to-late round picks in exchange for Martellus Bennett.</p>— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/710242454436519936">March 16, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Very good trade for the Patriots. He doesn't take the top off the defense but he is an underrated blocker and a huge target.
Any update to that Hunt and F150 for Bennett situation? I mean obviously it didn't happen but did we figure out why?
That's a great autocorrect. Gonna start calling Fiedorowicz "F-150". 4th to Chicago Bennett & a 6th to New England
I don't know how he would fit in with the Texans but Karlos Dansby just got released. He is better at covering tight ends than Cushing but both are pretty good ILBs.
I don't think the Texans are going to make any moves at ILB unless it's in the draft. Cush's cap figure is way too dificult to swallow if you release him, so he's starting. McKinney was playing really well at the end of the year, and is obviously one of your starting ILBs of the future. No point in pushing him to a backup role, won't be learning if he isn't starting.
That trade though, man I would have loved for the Texans to have made that move. Too bad they're so tight against the cap now, wouldn't have been that easy to make it work.
It helps the Payriots run game more than anything. Bennett is a better blocker than people realize. They can line up Gronk and Bennett and have two 6'5"-6'6" elite blockers. As long as Bennett stays healthy it is an extremely good move for the Patriots. Bennett will also be highly motivated as he will be a free agent in 2017 at age 30.
Neither of them are good in coverage. Cushing is a little better but he is better playing closer to the line of scrimmage. It's even worse since they have issues at the safety position. Speaking of which, would be nice to have Jaylon Smith.
What I heard on Smith is that his nerve has to regrow and every month, it should grow back an inch. He should be out for the upcoming season at least
