Also, the Texans made good signings to compliment Brock with RB Miller, and Jared Allen. I know many people here on Clutchfans doesn't like the Brock Signing but let me ask you guys this, other than Brock, what other QB makes more sense to this team than Brock? The Texans were aggressive to get Brock because after the combine, you can clearly tell the Texans didn't like any QB entering the draft. Wentz, Goff, Lynch, & Hackenberg.... This year's QB crop is incredibly lukewarm. None of those players will be able to come in and lead an NFL yet or at all. Even if the Texans drafted "their" guy, he will still sit behind Hoyer for a while before he's even ready. Can you honestly go with Hoyer as the starting QB after training camp again? I surely can't.
This is essentially a 2 year contract if he busts. In year 3, we save 15m if we cut him, 13m in year 4
The signing or gamble on a QB for this franchise at this point is almost a no brainer move. However, the construction of the contract isn't really any kind of rocket science, anyone who passed the 3 rd grade maths will know how to count it, and down the road 2 seasons later, people will also curse on Rick Smith dug a hole for this franchise as we may need to release several key starters.
If Brock is truly the QB we need, we have him at average starting QB value in year 3. If he isn't who we think, we cut him and save 15 million
Bill OBrien would be fired...if the Texans have to cut him. just sayin'... Hoping the Texans make this work. The Rockets gambled and took a chance on James Harden to come in and take over the franchise...The Texans ironically are faced with a similar opportunity. I think Bill O'Brien will get the best out of his QB's regardless of who is under center...but this is a very BIG gamble. Also too note - the Texans did gamble on a bench QB...one Matt Schaub... who really had a good solid few years. Hoping the Texans get a similar trajectory, with a vastly more talented team.
By the way, as per some rumor mill information. I can say that the Broncos are pissed off at the Texans for poaching Brock off them. And their offer was very close to what the Texans ended up paying for him. It seems Brock wanted out from Denver...and Rapport on NFL network eludes to that...
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TlNq-5Bowmg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Worth watching. I know it's old, but this was pre-Peyton and Elway. Just sayin'. I'm sold on him, just not in love with his delivery. He's got kind if a side arm throwing motion.
I really don't have high individual expectations for Brock, I'm not expecting Marino Jr. But these signings as a collective whole, I'm thinking an AFC title appearance within the next few years as a minimum goal/expectation for Obrien/Smith. The main things I want Brock to do is to take vertical shots if it's there and not put the defense in bad situations.
