What? This is 100% on Morey - if you are building around Harden (and you should be) you have to find players that FIT with his style of play. 1. Lawson - doesn't fit - worth a shot, but he needs the ball to be effective - fail 2. Jones - doesn't fit - also needs to play off the bounce to be successful. 3. Ariza - Fits - can spot up and catch and shoot, is a slight downgrade from Parsons who can do that too AND dribble and pass - but at least Ariza fits. 4. Howard - DOES NOT FIT - didn't fit with Kobe, what makes anyone think he will fit with a Kobe like ball dominant player like Harden? 5. Coaching - Hired a crap coach in McHale and then his assistant instead of a good coach that can hold players accountable. This is on Morey and Les - you can't take on the responsibility of building a team and then say "It is not my fault" when the job you did falls flat. DD
I agree we do suck... But we have no continuity.. no chemistry.. nothing even resembling a team... We have 15 individuals on the bench and they play the same way on the court.. T_Man
So DD... Do we build around a player or do we build around a coach with a system... Most teams that win a CHAMPIONSHIP are built around a system and not around a player.... T_Man
This is the culture you create when you trade away your team players for a bunch of guys that are about getting theirs above winning. Our organization is broken it is rotting from the head down. DD
I build around a Player, but put a coach in there that can ADJUST his system to take advantage of his players and their capabilities. As Rudy used to say "RUN IT AGAIN" DD
We all get that and we get you loved DMo... But right now, you play this thing out, you evaluate and you attack... First order of business is hire a coach within a week after the season is over... Les and Morey already know the top 3 to 5 coaches they want... So don't BS around and get the job done.. Then looking at the current roster to see which players will work in that coach's system.... As far as DMo goes.. Yes he was a good skill offensive player, but as one poster stated.. No way can you justify spending 15 mil for 5 years on player who has stayed hurt more than he has healthy. T_Man
I would build around a system... A system will make stars.. Look at any sport and then look at the teams that have won championships.. They have a system in place that made stars... San Antonio, New England Patriots, Duke.. etc... T_Man
Well, we would not be afraid of paying for role players, and we would keep players that fit like Parsons, Patterson, Dmo etc.. And we would not be going all in on trying desperately to get Star players - kicking the can down the road as you fail. We would be building a solid core of players around Harden - and not chasing Stars because they put butts in the seats (Jeremy Lin - cough cough)... DD
This makes no sense. Almost without exception, every team that has won the ring, and been to the Finals, and frankly been to the conference finals... since forever, has had "stars". You're ENTIRE shtick is a hindsight based, results driven diatribe that would be COMPLETELY opposite if DM and company instead of "chasing players" that you now think didn't make sense did exactly what you suggested and it didn't work. You'd be on here b****ing and moaning about how we really need star player 2 and 3 and can't win with these role players. It is 100% acceptable to judge performance. If it isn't working, it isn't working, and DM is the architect, so it does come back to him. But don't pretend like you have any clue what strategy would work, that the strategy employed was principally the problem - as opposed to the execution of the strategy mainly by those brought in - etc.
DD....... you have been consistently wrong.... you are like the Forrest Gump of Clutchfans...... you stumbling and bumbling your way around, but everyone lets it go because they love your passion.
DD, If someone came to this page to get a sense of what Rockets fans are like, saw that you posted a bunch so they read through your posts as a proxy, what do you think they'd think about Rockets fans?
DaDakota going full-DaDakota all over the place. Every single Morey/DMo related thread. A sight to behold.
is this sarcastic? There have been only 4 teams to make it to the finals since patterson was traded. 3 if you lump lebron-led teams together.
DD need clam down, you are not smarter than Morey. You wanted to give AB for a near max money, and build this team around AB by trading Yao years ago.
They would think Rockets fans, like most fans, have a surface-level knowledge of the sport that mostly involves opinions they haven't bothered to fact-check. They would also think Rockets fans are especially obnoxious about flaunting that ignorance.
I agree with T_Man. Morey's problem is that he has a system that he wants to kind of be the coach and GM. We really need a coach the will work with Daryl but is not his puppet. Daryl should stick to what he does well which is what he did yesterday in moving D Mo (I really liked him but his future was uncertain) and at least get something of value now for him. As we have seen the talent on this present roster is pretty much worthless. No one else wants what we have but I have to wonder what a good coach could get out of this group. Last the right coach would be able to look this team and suggest the right players for this team to become a winner ie what Rick Adelman tried to do before he left.
San Antonio has never been a good team without a top 5 big man (robinson/duncan) and Billy Belle didn't do crap until Tom Brady came along. I think at the end of the day, you need good players to successfully run whatever system you instill.
