Y'all can fact check me if I'm wrong. Listening to Charlie Strong's press conference, it sounds like he didn't do any negative recruiting. However, after the successful 1/15 official visit weekend UT had, Sumlin thought he should use negative recruiting to swing things back to A&M. It must have backfired massively, because all of the recruits who chose UT mentioned how much they loved Strong and wanted to play for him. I know there are reasons for A&M's downfall, like the loss of QB's and Sumlin's uncertainty as HC, but it's still interesting.

Yah I was listening to him talk while sitting in traffic in Austin. He said he didn't even bring up the other schools in any way.

Are you saying that Strong accused Sumlin of using negative recruiting? Who said Sumlin used negative recruiting?

I don't get the UT/TAMU narrative. Rivals has TAMU's class just a few spots back and both teams suck on the field. I'm happy we got linebackers and secondary help.

You don't get the narrative of why somebody jumping 20 spots in the artificial media spectacle of signing day is treated as noteworthy within that sphere by people whose livelihood depends on such hype?

Are you saying you don't understand it, in terms of you can't comprehend why it is considered noteworthy, or that you don't understand it, because it makes you sad.

    I'm guessing hte latter

Do you not remember the "#WRTS" twitter campaign last year? All the chest pumping of SEC, and how awesome the swagcopter was? Or this year, "How did UT's bowl game go this year?"

When a Texas team that goes 5-7, does not play in a bowl game, has a perception that the current head coach wont last another year is able to pull a top 10 class and move up 20 spots in 1 day...it's damn impressive. Having A&M behind us was not even up for debate. We pulled in the top Big 12 class, while the Aggies finished 8th in the SEC.

Having a good recruiting class does not equal wins on the field or conference championships (See Aggies last 4 years or Texas the 2010-2014 years), but it sure does help.

We all remember it, but what I don't understand is why are you (and other UT fans) taking it so damn personally?? Are you saying that other schools don't pound their chest, and flex their muscles when they show some success on and off the field?? Every school has some stupid hashtag that they pump into the Twittersphere to try and garner some attention.....guess what....UT does it too. Stop acting like A&M is the only school to brag a little bit.

Take a quick stroll across the internet. Go to Reddit. SEC Rant. The main message boards on Rivals or 247. There is a nearly universal hatred of A&M and their fans. This isn't just UT fans complaining.

You are correct, most teams have a gimmick hashtag. However it is usually something like #Believe or #GigEmGang17 (y'all learned). Making your official hashtag a direct putdown of rival schools is begging for retribution when the tide turns.

See, another person taking it personal. Lulz. Live life, man. UT made a network to flex its nuts. Let little ole Tamu have a hashtag.

Definitely not taking this personal. Just explaining why everyone is seems to be reveling in A&M's failure yesterday.

OU, who has a football team that I hate just as much as A&M, is coming off of a trip to the playoffs and finished behind A&M in the rankings, yet no one nationally seems to be mocking them. There's a reason.

Not taking it personally at all. I just laugh at A&M fans who believe they have had success on the field though recently.

Most rational Texas fans know we are in rebuilding mode and have a long way to go to get back to the top. I am not sure most A&M fans realize they have never been on top since 1939, unless you consider beating OU in a bowl game with Johnny your ceiling from a few years ago.

You have to understand that Longhorn fans haven't had anything to cheer about for a long time. And, they will forever be pissed that the Aggies left them behind in the deteriorating Big 12.

Longhorns and Aggies have been throwing insults at each much longer than most of us have been alive. Sure, it's all rather silly and childish, but it won't be going away.

The Longorns seem to have had a slightly better recruiting season than the Aggies, so it's their turn to crow. What I want to know is when will either the Horns or the Aggies ever start getting results on the field? Both teams have been an embarrassment to the state of Texas in recent years. This is supposed to be football country.

Same narrative as years past just much more publicized now that ESPN has gotten involved and twitter allows anyone and everyone to voice their opinion.

Dude no longhorn is pissed ATM left. If they want to continue being mediocre in a new conference then go ahead. The trend seems to indicate that ATM peaked with Johnny, and that Texas is on the rise. Getting rid of Macks garbage was step 1. The last 2 years have been about restocking the cupboard. The wins are coming whether under strong this year or Herman next.
