So he build team and TOLD his coaches to coach his way, he got tons of players that don't fit that strategy at all, he then blamed the coach that they don't play well under these circumstances.

It doesn't matter if you make playoffs, or second round, this team, our team, should have only one goal and that's championship.

Look what GSW did, not from perspective of what they did, but how they did it, you look at their GM, he did and successfully copied certain parts of Spurs, this quote sums it up well.

“A synergy has to form between the owner, whoever his president is, whoever the GM is, whoever the coach is,” Popovich said in that quote from March of 2014 that Myers kept as a blueprint of sorts. “There’s got to be a synergy where there’s a trust. There (are) no walls. There is no territory. Everything is discussed. Everything is fair game. Criticism is welcome, and when you have that, then you have a hell of an organization. That free flow through all those people is what really makes it work. And that includes everything from draft to Os and Xs. Nothing should be left to one area – only to the president, only to the GM, only to the coach – or the culture just doesn’t form. At least that’s what’s worked for us.”

Where is the coaching? Couldn't teach Howard any post moves, couldn't teach ANY guards to get Howard ball when he pinned down his defender.

Everyone blames JB, but what would Tibs fix it? I mean he clashed in Chicago because they (their front office), don't share same view as GSW or Spurs do, and then you got Morey who is the same and want's everything done his way, so maybe i'm wrong but i see Morey is being biggest reason this team won't go far. I feel like his over his head with WCF and this team hit a jackpot with Clippers choking big time.

It's just ridiculous to see a team shot NO mid J's, was there ever a team to do so?

Look at Boston, they got young great coach and GM who let's him coach, they play hard and you could always root for team like that, but Houston's problems steams from their idiotic strategy that i doubt many if any good coaches would bend over.

Morey did some amazing work to build good amount of assets, but i'm not even going to say a good team, because this group of players got so many flaws that can't be fixed by 1 or two trades.

They need good strategy and if you got a coach who rather party with his players then get hard on them, then where is this team going ?

We all saw last season that Harden IS coachable, so let's not go into this blame everything on James, but if we hire Thibs, who gives?

The fish always start to stink from the head, and i don't see this being fixed unless Morey goes.

He doesn't believe in chemistry in coaching and the only thing he seems to believe is, is his flawed strategy, he completely lost it... to calculator.

Good post, you will get criticized by idiots on your english, but what they don't realize is that you don't have to be american or fluent in english to understand basketball properly.

I don't understand how people cannot think Thibs would fix a hell of a lot with this team.

I honestly just don't comprehend it.

This could doing things like hold certain players accountable for defense.

I'm pretty sure the first game he coaches and sees Harden attempting his version of what he calls defense (floating around the free throw line) will make him scratch his head and wonder how any coach allowed him to do that for so long.

Choose the calculator every time, it always gets it right. Morey, not so much.

    Here's what Morey has done:

Made the Rockets predictable by getting 3 and drive guys. He needs to change his philosophy. It worked, but it's no longer working. We've been figured out. Time to change. That's what makes a human better than a calculator. Ability to figure out what is happening.

Chaos cannot be predicted, but we have a two trick pony. We can be predicted. Be more chaotic.

Harden is a fame money seeking w****. First thing you do is punch him in the mouth by benching him. All his coins will burst out like Sonic. I'm pretty sure Adidas and co. will have a word with Harden about his endorsements. You have to show this cat and Morey whose the alpha male. Can't be masking this mess by just letting him have his way. The best disciplinarian I know is Thibs.

    It's not Morey's fault.

Fame got to Harden's head. That's what happened.

What would be a mistake would be to continue with Bickerstaff and not just get Thibodeau.

Trade Harden's best buddies from the team, whoever they are. Definitely trade Terrence Jones and Ty Lawson. Possibly trade Howard if the offer is right. Get some really good 3-point shooters. Have many conversations with Harden and hope that he sheds his ****ty attitude. Only trade Harden as a last resort, because he is simply too talented.

I think we can save Harden. Some players perform better when they have a yeller disciplinarian coach to keep them in check. I know this for a fact. As for Morey, he's just one of the brehs that plays fantasy league.

You cannot save Harden from crappy dance moves, acting or bad commercials. He is hopping like a grinch who stole Christmas in one of the shots. (Virtual computer game one)

    Understand basketball properly?

People act like morey was trying to reinvent the wheel... We retool mid season and the off season and try it again.

It works when we are hitting shots at a decent clip and moving the ball well... Unsurprisingly.

The system or philosophy isn't broken, we just need some different glue guys and secondary guard who can create and hit shots. It's baffling how big of a step most of the team took.

Problem is Morey is an egotistical guy.

He believes he has solved basketball and knows everything about the game. Dude lacks humility to learn from other great teams and other great coaches.

His whole stance saying coaching doesn't matter says it all.

Maury needs to take a step back and realize he is nowhere near a top GM and this team is not close to competing for a ring. He needs to copy those other great teams and hire a great coach to run the system he wants

Not some stupid gimmick Mauryball with some of the worst shooters in the league

We don't have a way to predict the human side of players.

If you know how, turn your resume in to Morey asap and congrats on the great high paying job.

It is not just about the human side of things.

Morey is smart enough to try things out but he rather sticks with his old system of bricking 3s and forcing it to the hoop.

He has not learned a lick from the ball movement of the Princeton system or he has turned his back on it completely.

Morey's philosophy clearly works considering 2 years ago the Rockets had one of the top-3 offenses in the league.

Last season they had a top-5 defense in the league.

So the philosophy and even the talent on the team isn't the issue. They just haven't been able to put it together on both sides of the ball yet. That's what they were supposed to do this year. They were supposed to carry over their good defense from last year AND improve the offense sight the addition of Ty Lawson (and Thornton).

But that didn't happen. They are playing bad on both sides of the ball. It's really unexplainable to be honest. This is not a problem with Morey's philosophy or the talent.

You misinterpreted what Morey said about coaching. He was talking specifically about in-game coaching. He said the in-game decisions of coaches change the outcome of about 1 or 2 games a year.

He wasn't talking about coaching the team in general. That obviously matters.

But that won't be an acceptable answer coming from Morey to Les. It's the GM's job to explain what's going on with the team when they underperform, and to provide a variety of suggested alternatives.

I think it's not difficult to explain at a high level actually.

On defense, we've gotten multiple guys who have grown complacent. Bev and Brewer just got paid, and it's very obvious to see the difference in sustained effort when you actually watch the games. Harden has grown more lackadaisical compared to last season and Ariza is playing out of position most of the time. Thornton and Lawson have been known to be bad defenders and Terry is old. It's no mystery that we're not able to sustain solid D for more than half a quarter at a time.

On offense we're playing the same old one on one basketball we've been playing for the last 3 years, except without a good PF passer for the majority of this season. The best plays last year came from a Josh Smith pick off Harden, getting the ball at top of the key and then touch passing to a Howard oop or taking a wide open lane to the basket. DMo actually ran this a few times but we didn't see it with Terrance nor Ariza earlier in the year.

Now as for viable solutions to transform the Rockets back to a contender whether through coaching changes or trades? That's the difficult part that we'll let Morey worry about.
