The fact that you are using that example shows how clueless you are. So you mean to tell me there is one player that can do stuff like that...which is why we should chuck 3 after 3 (when we are clearly not very good at it) and end up with the worst 3pt % in the league along with the most attempts? We shoot MORE 3s than the warriors...who are boasting the best shooting duo this league has ever seen. Let that sink in.

Its like you went full r****d and forgot about context completely. I know! Since Steph can launch 30 foot 3s we should make Dwight do it too!!

I understand that you fully committed yourself to the MIDRANGE MIDGET ARMY a long, long, long time ago chico.

I would suspect that the fact that the greatest distance shooting TEAM, not player, tho curry is that, is dominating the league by eschewing the glorious MIDRANGE VALHALLA that you have committed yourself to, irrevocably, must be a hurtful burn.

I will help you cope: alcohol wins. Trust me on this.

That last 2 minutes was all Moreyball. Started with a Harden ISO and then turned into swinging the ball around the 3 pt line until the shot clock went down.

I'm guessing most people don't really understand what moreyball actually means.

So much stupidity in this thread.

If you blame Morey for coaching staff or not having a right players for the Moreyball, i understand.

But don't blame Moreyball ffs. If you have a right players, Moreyball is one of the most effective way to win the games. Even if you don't have the right players, it still gives you chance to win the games.

If Josh Smith shoot mid ranges shots last year, do you think he would be any good for us? He started the shoot much more 3 pointers and it did wonders for us. Without Moreyball you won't have that kind of opportunity.

We need a better coaching staff, and change in the roster.

Nah its cool to blame Moreyball. Warriors attempted a mere 421 3 pointers en route to historic epochal domination while loser Rox jacked up 425.

    U suck Daryl.

People think moreyball = isoball. When I think of Moreyball done right, I think of Spurs and Warriors.

Yes, you can shoot the mid range jumper if that is a strength, but the focus is still the most efficient shots on the floor. YES. For some players the mid range is more efficient than the 3! It's player specific. AI shoots the mid-range sometimes. So does Barnes. Sometimes they pass up the open mid-range for a 3, it all depends who it is!

The coach is supposed to design a system that takes advantage of every players most efficient shots, backed by data. That is moreyball.

Don't bother. People are desperately trying to find a scapegoat and some are hopelessly ignorant.

Isn't gsw the same thing as moreyball? The personnel is the problem. We need a draymon green and center that can shoot. Harden can stay but he needs to pass the ball and reduce the isos.

    Yes it is.

Moreyball has ended the same way money ball ended in MLB

It became basketball. Knicks beasted from 3 tonight. The Knicks.

"Moreyball" is the system as well as the personnel. As a GM you don't get credit for just coming up with a system. Hell, I can do that. If the personnel is the problem, whose fault is it? It seems that people here are trying to defend Morey by pointing to GSW's ability to make a lot of 3s? Is that a joke?

The reason GSW is so much better this year is they found an even more efficient way to score and they run it basically all freaking game. The Curry-Green PNR, doesn't matter if Green is the center or not. Once teams trap Curry off the screen (because you have to or else he shoots 50% from 3) it's green 4vs3 with the court vision to always make the right pass.

It's incredibly simple. If you watch Curry once he gives the ball up on the screen, he doesn't just stand there, he runs around and into other screens to get open. All their other players are constantly moving/shifting, it's like a freaking symphony watching them play.

The key is everyone on their team can do what curry does because of Green being able to pretty much beat any PF/C off the dribble and make the right play. All their players are also very good passers. They shoot all of their 3's in rhythm, because they know exactly who is going to be open after the dominos start falling after the initial action. It's all predicated on Curry being a threat from anywhere, and green's playmaking ability. The guy is averging 7 assists a game!!

With all that said, Harden ISO is actually one of our more efficient plays. A play that is potentially more efficient is a Harden-Howard PNR. But let me guess and tell you why I think Harden hates Howard. Howard sets the weakest screens for a huge guy I've ever seen. He's afraid of contact/getting injured. He never sets them right. He acts like he sets them, the defenders aren't really confused/impeded in any way, and harden doesn't really get the extra space to drive. It's terrible.

Jones and DMO set harder screens than Howard. Capela is leaps and bounds better at it. Dwight is a huge pus*y. I would hate him too if I were Harden.

You don't read or comprehend anything do you?

Here's why: We need to shoot 3 pointers in today's NBA, and it needs to be an integral part of our offense----Your tunnel vision keyboard warrior persona just ate its own diarrhea now didn't it?
To do that however, we need the players to do so. Dork Elvis has had 4 yrs to do it but has yet to sign a shooting specialist like Korver...which is mind boggling. Since my analogy wasn't clear enough earlier, ill say it again... this team isn't good at shooting 3s...actually thats an understatement they are TERRIBLE. Hence, pulling up for a heavily contested 3 everytime they run down the court isn't going to end...well...just like it has been (just in case you have stuck your head in the sand and don't know whats going on). The irony is that you ignored my point, which is defended by stats....dead last in % and most in attempts. Common sense usually dictates playing to your strengths...since you seem to be lacking in that department.

Also, I'll take the high road and wish you the best of luck here since I feel that was classic projection. You seem to be pretty angry, and referencing alcohol right there compels me to say something regardless of if you were serious or not, just take a deep breath and goto sleep.

Lastly.... grow up---you're like a middle aged man acting like an angsty teenager far too often.

You know who set monster screens. Asik. You guys remember him? This is where moreyball failed us. That year, Harden left right center off a screen was by far our most efficient play.

They tried doing it again with Dwight, but like I said, Dwight can't set screens because he's a huge pus*y. and when you have Jones/DMO having to set the screens (instead of spacing the floor) you end up having Dwight do nothing but clog up the paint. Game set match, we suck.

So by "system" you actually mean "offense"

I'm some cases it's no doubt true that the GM (Big Chief Trisngle, e.g.) imposes a certain offense the team.

In other cases, such as the Houston Rockets, and pretty much 90% of the rest of the NBA, the coach and the personnel determine which offensive sets are run on a given play.

And GS doesn't just make a lot of threes, dumbass, they TAKE a lot of threes. Pretty much the same as Houston.

    Poor guy.

    Bingo.

"Morey" ball is how morey envisions his team playing---he has had the full reigns to implement it on the rockets so it is perfectly logical to assume that its the personnel as well. A year or two I would have let it go...4 yrs and chasing after superstars instead of specialists when you want to run the most 3 pt centered offense in history? That has been reeking of idiot since we first called him out years ago...and what was the result? This idiot ball the players seem to be playing.

(also all the GSW comparisons need to stop, you have to be delusional and extremely superficial in thinking to believe that. "Derp derp they shoot 3s and Morey like 3 so we is the same derp derp")

No worries ;) You don't add any substance anyways, ...it would have been what you just wrote but with more nonsense in the middle.

I agree, we aren't as good as a lot of teams shooting 3 pointers. But here is where you are wrong. Is it because they aren't getting the right looks/shots in rhythm or because they simply aren't good 3 point shooters?

It can be either of them right?

Ariza shot 40%+ the year before we got him
Lawson and Harden are career 36% shooters (pretty much average)
Jones shot 35% last year, almost 38% this year
Brewer has always been terrible, but thats not why we have him.

I'd be more inclined to say they aren't getting the right looks/right passes, rather than say they aren't able to shoot 3s.
