I could go either way on O'Brien at this point because he hasn't had much time. But if Smith doesn't go then we're certain to keep riding the mediocrity treadmill. I just don't see how you can hire a new GM and not let him bring in his own guy to be HC though.

Surprised CBS would even post this. No way BoB leaves the NFL after 2 seasons for Maryland out of all places, regardless of his prior work there or what UA ties they have.

I think they only write this if someone from either camp leaks it, which has been happening all season. Works for Ricks camp because it only subverts BOBs hold of the team, on the other hand it works for BOBs camp if tension continues to escalate in the 2nd half of the season.

I think this story is totally bogus. I also think the chances of Rick Smith returning next year are close to nil.

The only way this works is if Bob McNair fires BOB, and that's not happening.

Beyond that, wasn't the huge story about BOB going to PSU being that BOB was a "pro" coach who was clearly only interested in a college job as a stepping stone?

I think BOB would rather take the UT job over Maryland. Though that Under Armour money does talk.

A new GM at this point could evaluate O'B the rest of the year and make changes accordingly for the next.

McClain, who knows the Texans as well as anyone (if not better), says that O’Brien “has no interest” in the Maryland job. Really??? I wish Pancakes would man up and bet his job on it.

I don't think there is anything wrong with BOB or even Rick Smith. We just need a steady QB and most of our woes will fade away in short order. Unfortunately there aren't too many of them around. Just look at the Cowboys falling apart without Romo. Everyone is so quick to jump from one thing to the next. Give it at least 5 years and if it still isn't working then maybe look to readjust.

If this is a ploy by BOB to make Mcnair choose between him and Rick Smith...I love it
