Lawson is better than Lin offensively ... I can agree w/ that ... but as soon as we are talking about a role player ... Lin is by far the best among these options: 1/ Dragic 2/ Lawson 3/ Jeremy Lin 4/ Beverley
FUN Fact: 1/ Eastern teams are now 20W -17L against the West including the Spurs' 4W - L1. 2/ Houston is now 1W - 2L against the East
In defining a role player, the key is what role they need play. If you want a PG to play D, not handle much, sit in the corner and wait for kick-out 3, Beverley is the guy. Or Mario Chalmers. Most traditional PGs don' play well this way as they're accustomed to a ballhandling role. Lin is doing quite well because he's given the ballhandling and playmaking role, in a PnR set, and has teammates that aren't great shot creators - ie they depend on someone or a set to give them good looks. He didn't have much of that role the last 3 years. And he's got good shooters around him now, which gives him more space. I think Lawson and Dragic would do quite well in the same role Lin is in in Charlotte. Lawson's got the Beverley role now, and it'll take him a while to adjust. Lawson shoots the 3 quite well on the catch. But being a traditional PG that is also able to catch and shoot the 3 well is different from being able to play off the ball a lot and still catch and shot the 3 well. Perhaps it's a rhythm thing. Dragic is inconsistent on the Heat now because the starting 5 there are all near-all-star level players. On any given night a guy could be getting up 18 shots, and the next night 8. But he's still a pretty damn good player if given more minutes and responsibilities. Wade has declined, but he used to play the Harden role before Lebron went to Miami. I think Lin's made a good offseason decision to go to Charlotte. It's a pretty ideal role for him. And he has a player's option next season so he can either get paid or change teams if he wishes to. A smart gamble.
Overall I think they are on the same level.. Look at the efficiency that Lin was being utilized fully by the right way: advanced: Linsanity in NYC: USG% 28.1 TOV% 21.4 Linsanity in CHA: USG% 26.6% TOV% 13.8%(not up to date but close) per 36 min: Linsanity in NYC: FGA 14.7 FTA 7.0 Linsanity in CHA: FGA 15.0 FTA 7.2 Lindubitably, Lin is finally back to his old form and being EVEN MUCH BETTER!!! He has always been a scoring-PG from day one but both McHale and Byron Stupitt used him as a pass-first PG.
The thing with Lin's situation is that this season he's shooting near his career averages. Of course that's with him steadily improving his shooting throughout his career. But he has a PER of 21 now (I'd be surprised if he can keep this up all season ... I think it'll come down a bit over time), but basically a PER of 21 vs ~15 the last 3 seasons mostly comes down to usage. Lin had all-star level usage on the Knicks, and he's had one of the lowest PG usage levels in the last 3 seasons. And now it's back to a typical PG usage level.
My next post is actually alluding to what you just wrote. The difference in usage in his PG role. The last 3 years he had very low usage levels for a PG. And now he's back to normal, or actually slightly above average. I also was going to write about his FTA. Per 36min, Lin is getting to the line at a very good clip. I think that's Lin at his best. Attacking, drawing fouls. He has a better shot than he has on the Knicks, but he is also playing more subdued. The good is the TOs are down, but the bad is that he isn't playing as freely and as creatively as he used to in New York (which is his natural game). I guess playing the high percentage shot role in Houston (layups and 3s mostly) has changed his playing style a fair bit, but now we're starting to see the mid range shot and some of his playing freely back. It'll be an interesting season for Lin. I think playing on the Rockets and the Lakers helped him become more well-rounded. He's playing off the ball better (Rockets role). And he's able to score better in crowded space (Lakers no-space offense). He's also become a better 3pt shooter. And if you saw the last few games, Lin is also cutting off the ball better than before. But I want to temper the upside expectations. Athletically Lin has a limit. And he's much better scouted than he was during Linsanity. He will unlikely ever have the same success as he did during Linsanity.
Clifford also praise the intangibles Lin brought to the team which make the team chemistry much better.
He's still best suited for system of D'Antoni or to a lesser degree SVG(in DET). The multiple screens created space for him and hide his lack of ball control under high pressure. Spread out shooters and roll man further utilize his best attributes: vision, off dribble shooting and attacking rim off picks due to his combination of speed/size/strength. However, he's above average at best in most other offense. Without picks, he's not good enough to create his own shots consistently and prone to TO's. His solid defensive RPM is often overlooked. He's actually a defensive specialist in early career when he's required to spend all the energy on defense in limited minutes. If he's playing starter minutes while running the offense, he's just average defensively. Overall he's a very good player in the right system(maybe an allstar in east if everything clicks), but more or less an average player otherwise.
Lin had a couple good game and fans are screaming Linsanity is back Guys, let us not carry it away there. Ty Lawson is still far superior to Jerry offensively. He can create the whole offense for the team by himself, unlike Lin who need rely heavily on PnR. However, he does suffer the same problem Lin had in Houston. Give the ball to Haren and wait at the corner definitely is not his game. Dragic, on the other hand, is falling back to earth. He had one good season two years ago and cashed in it beautifully. He already declined a little last season and this season he is plummeting. His perimeter game seems regressed, a 29 old player who heavily rely on fastbreak and layups, good luck with that. Miami will have a very hard time to trade his contract in a year or two.
Sorry Linsanity is not back and Yung-T is still mad someone thinks that luke Skywalkers daughter might be in the new star wars. So the lofs who are on every single hoops noard come back to clutchfans like it's terminus
Oh the lof returns like luke Skywalker. So you are saying he's having a few good games cause Charlotte knows how to use him? You mean backup shooting guard with no responsibility except to score? Hint for you. Point guards are suppose to pass well.
Actually, Jeremy Lin is pretty good at creating for his teammates, particularly in the pick n roll. What he sucks at his dribbling and decision making. The more you post the more it's clear you don't know all that much about basketball.
I know Lin is not a starting point guard in the nba. Point guards are suppose to have high basketball iqs. And point guards are suppose to be good dribblers. Hence the term ball handler The more you post, the more lof you are
