if you go in the middle of the week to franklins, be sure you are behind the person with the 'last person' sign.

It's above average bar food, but I wouldn't go there just for the food.

I've only had the pulled pork poutine though, which was good.

Man, if the lines at Franklin are worse than they used to be, then .... wow. I got there at around 8am I think on a Saturday and would've been the first in line but I think I drove around a bit and came back. Still was the 3rd in line when it opened. It's still the best brisket and probably the best ribs I've had.

BTW, I had Pecan Lodge with some co-workers here in the DFW area. After all the build-up I had over the years for eating there, it was a bit of a letdown. The brisket was good, but not great. The sausage was good. The ribs were "ok-to-good", but not great. I had higher expectations from "the 2nd best bbq joint in the state". I'll give it another whirl eventually. Apparently the governor was supposed to be coming to eat there in another hour... maybe they were off their game because of that... ;)

Maybe it was just on offday? I've been a couple times and their brisket was on point. It kinda reminded me of Snow's brisket with their smoke and bark. I agree that the brisket is the only thing that was great. The ribs and sausage was meh. I honestly think it was alot better when they were in the farmers market, and werent pushing out alot of volume like they are now with their Deep Ellum location.

It's good, worth the drive if you're in the mood for a drive that way. I'd do it in the spring when the wildflowers are blooming.

Pecan Lodge is good too, just Dallas-ey.

I've said this before in another bbq-related thread, but this is a huge red flag for a bbq joint (or any restaurant, really). Once they get so popular that they have to expand facilities to meet demand, it is almost inevitable that the quality will suffer. It's not their fault, there's just no way to replicate what they had on a larger scale.

So if you really like a place, don't tell anybody about it.

I may have already mentioned this in this thread (too lazy to look), but I really enjoyed the shoulder clod at Kreuz Market in Lockhart. I honestly preferred it to their brisket, which was also outstanding.

I ate at Blacks too but preferred the ambiance at Kreuz - it just felt more like a place that specialized in meat.

Now instead of eating other people's brisket I've found it much more fun to smoke my own.

Anyone have any recommendations for good BBQ in the Bryan-College Station area?
I tried Fargo's last week. It was pretty good, but nothing special.

I'm curious to see what happens to Corkscrew now that they moved from their trailer in The Woodlands to a brick-and-mortar in Old Town Spring. I haven't heard any complaints yet but growth can sometimes be a bad thing.
