Even though this offseason has been shorter than in recent years due to this year's playoff success, this offseason has been just as painfully long and trying as any offseason to date. Apart from the initial free agency period and the Ty Lawson trade, it has been a very slow offseason for the Rockets and basketball fans, in general. Summer league missed the names we were anxious to see like Capela and Dekker, and since Team USA already qualified for the 2016 Olympics, there has been basically no basketball to lead us to the 2015 season. Even the scrimmage Team USA had lacked many major names, including Harden and Howard (no offense to Jones). Point is, I am starving for some Houston Rocket's Basketball. I have been so excited for this season to start that I thought of making a thread with countdowns till the major events leading to the 2015 season. Media Day: Spoiler <iframe width="263" height="135" src="https://www.onlinecountdowns.com/w/182650" frameborder="0"></iframe> I tried looking if there were any set dates for media day, but there were none I could find. Last year, media day for the Rockets was the last Monday of September so I assumed it would be similar this season. This will be a huge day because apart for the usual interviews from Harden, Howard, Ariza and crew, it will probably be the day Ty Lawson is officially introduced in a Rockets' jersey. 1st Offseason Game: Spoiler <iframe width="263" height="135" src="https://www.onlinecountdowns.com/w/182650" frameborder="0"></iframe> Finally some Rockets' basketball!! Even though the starters will get limited time, I will be watching closely how they fit. Hopefully we will see what each player has been working on this offseason. Opening Night: Spoiler <iframe width="263" height="135" src="https://www.onlinecountdowns.com/w/182650" frameborder="0"></iframe> And so it begins! We will probably be missing Howard and Lawson for this game, but it should be a good game for us to start the season against the Nuggets. Hopefully this will be the start of a season to remember! For Morey and Rocket's Fans: Revenge Night!: Spoiler <iframe width="263" height="135" src="https://www.onlinecountdowns.com/w/182650" frameborder="0"></iframe> For fun, first major test of the season, against the Warriors! Nothing else needs to be said!
Wow, my bad! I guess I should have refreshed the page after every event I made. Previewing my post didn't show the countdown so I hoped it would work out. Let me correct it! Don't mean to be Negative Nancy but with the Texans looking to be mediocre again this season and the Astros being worst than mediocre on the road, it really makes me appreciate the Rockets even more. The Texans have been a franchise for 13 years now and have been mediocre, at best, for their entire history. In my opinion, the Rick Smith era should have been over after the 2013 season. How many bad extensions, signings and wasted mid-draft picks can this regime make without being shown the boot? Ed Reed, Louis Nix, any of the 3rd to 5th round picks from the last 5 or so years? They wasted Andre Johnson's career while he was here, and until they find their franchise quarterback will continue to waste JJ Watt's, as well. The NFL is a tough sport to be truly competitive in, especially if you don't have a great quarterback, but this organization hasn't found one yet and it doesn't look like they are capable of finding one. The resurgence of the Astros has been a great story for the MLB and the city of Houston, but they are clearly a year away from being a real threat in the AL. Even with the win tonight, there is no excuse for a team to be borderline horrific on the road. Call it youth but the difference between home and road for this team is truly staggering. This team obviously needed another consistent bat at the trade deadline but came away with a very shaky bat in Carlos Gomez. Hitting on this team has been very inconsistent, and how they handled the 1B position by refusing to bring up one of their star minor league 1B-men when Carter and Singleton were horrible is very puzzling. There is still hope for the Astros, the future does look awfully bright but they still have to make the right moves before anyone should crown them favorites. Don't get me wrong, the Rockets are far from a perfect organization. They have made mistakes in the past and still have a lot to prove this coming season, but when compared with the other major sports teams of this city, they look to be light years ahead of them. A big part of it has to do with the Rockets finding their franchise star and the NBA being a different sport than the MLB or NFL, but the way Morey has run this organization with a well-designed plan and a "cut your losses" mentality has a lot to do with the success of the Rockets when compared to the Texans and Astros. The 15 days till the Rockets' media day cannot come soon enough.
Good bump. You can say that again! **** show known as the Texans & the inevitable collapse from the Astros.
lololol I'm glad that it seems like all three sports will be at least watchable (unlike the crap shows that were the 2014 Texans and the '09 to '14 Astros), but people better be going crazy over the Rockets when their season starts. This city has a true contender that can realistically win it all, so I will be very disappointed when everyone and their mothers will be talking about Texans this or that when the Rockets will be the only team worth the breath.
42 days left until the start of the season Rockets fans: Spoiler oh, also, in a couple hours, it will be 12 days until media day -- so, Matt Maloney is serving his purpose in the background as always.
Astros just did Astro things. Lost first place to the freaking Rangers on a freaking walkoff! Texans don't even know who will be their quarterback this week. Rockets just had a launch party, so... <a href="http://photobucket.com/images/mario%20bump" target="_blank"><img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b374/Kabzior/LOL/bump.gif" border="0" alt="mario bump photo: bump bump.gif"/></a>
when i was a kid. and apparently really bored one night. i wrote a letter that i wanted to send to the rockets gm and coach after a tough loss one night. what was it about?? well i was pissed that matt maloney wasn't getting enough playing time and that was why they were losing.
