I'm hearing a press conference on 790 where apparently Milo wants to tone it down somewhat.

Announcement on 790.

Will broadcast home games next year (imagine that will be his last year) & "select" road games.

This is long overdue.

He and Ashby are terrible. It's a crime that Dierker and Deshaies have to split time while Ashby does color all game and play-by-play for some innings. Ashby has zero personality and Milo is just drifting away. Of course, both are still better than Greg Lucas.

Milo is the best. I don't know who'll do the road games but -- no one does baseball radio better than Milo.

are you serious???

i would agree about 7 years ago. but no longer. ashby has to help him along, now. he never gives out the score. he is clearly behind the action on the field.

If you don't want to have any clue what happens until three ABs later. :D

The standard Milo-Ash exchange goes like this:

MILO: Bad pun or obscure reference
ASH: Doesn't get it
MILO: Explains
ASH: Responds with a bad pun
MILO: Doesn't get it
ASH: Explains
In the meantime, the count has gone from 1-0 to 3-2.

"Line drive whooooooaaaaaaaaaooooohhhh whaddyathink about that Alanashby?"

Milo's call of a HR during the Pirates series.

I've been listening to more radio games than usual recently. He's borderline unlistenable. He can't see the ball. It's quite sad, really, how often Ash has to cover for him.

Ash's PBP has improved leaps & bounds. Doesn't have that prototypical "radio voice" but gives you the info & great insight. Ash doing PBP & Dierk doing color would be a godsend to those who have to follow the games via radio. Brownie & Deshaies are great on TV, not sure about JD's family commitments though.

Milo's a shell, an absolute shell, of his former broadcasting self. He should have retired years ago.

Maybe Cynthia Cooper will apply for the job!

Milo has earned the right to go out his own way. He was very good for a long long time. Clearly he is way past his prime and has to know it. If the Astros were still on pace for 100 losses (like they were after 45 games) he would have announced his retirement at the end of this season. Some announcers just insist on hanging on too long. Those of you who think Milo is still good must have a really big soft spot for him. Ash is pretty bland and doesn't add a lot. While the two together aren't terrible, they barely make the grade.

I didn't think he was the best but I will miss him. Enjoy your time off Milo

Maybe Deshaies will get it and Dierker will be full time again... that would be sweet.

Well I understand the criticism, but maybe I just don't truly know what I'm "missing" from Hamilton not announcing at his best. For me, I find it obvious that a ball is a homerun or is caught...the crowd pumped up helps.

EDIT: Oh, and at least be lucky y'all aren't Braves fans; they just got Chip Carey this year from the Cubs. Not to be too harsh, but Chip ain't no Harry...or Skip for that matter.

Chip Carey sounds like that boring and annoying co-worker that you don't want to; he sucks.

I was hoping the other way around.

I've always that Bill Brown's non-stop chatterboxing would work better on radio than TV. I like both JD and LD.

This describes Milo's last ten years to a T.

I love Dierk... he's about as knowledgeable a baseball guy you could ever want, and he doesn't come across as a jackass like most color guys out there. Either way I never listen to sports on the radio becuase of all of the useless banter that goes on.

Milo is still a good announcer in my opinion.
