Astros Summary
Astacio to pitch Wednesday
Astros manager Phil Garner said after Monday's game that rookie righthander Ezequiel Astacio will be called up from Class AAA Round Rock on Wednesday and will start that day's game against the Pirates.
Astacio will replace Brandon Duckworth, who has struggled this year. Duckworth is 0-1 with a 12.60 ERA in three appearances, including two starts. A roster move will be made Wednesday to open a spot for Astacio.
"You don't want to not be able to start, but that's what their decision is," Duckworth said. "Of course, it's a little surprising. But if you just look on sheer numbers, obviously it's not surprising at the same time. They feel it's best for him to start, so I'll go with it and do whatever I can to help out in the bullpen."
Astacio, who pitched well during spring in the battle for the No. 5 spot in the rotation, is 0-3 with a 4.63 ERA at Round Rock.

about damn time ...
Of course its not going to matter unless we can get some offense going. It'll be great to see how Zeke handles the pressure though. What a great opportunity for a young pitcher.

Great news! I love this quote:
"You don't want to not be able to start, but that's what their decision is," Duckworth said. "Of course, it's a little surprising. But if you just look on sheer numbers, obviously it's not surprising at the same time.
With Zeke, at least there's hope.

Guys -- Zeke's stats in Round Rock are awful. I wouldn't get my hopes up too high.

They aren't that bad... and in the end, he'll still be better than Duckworth.
The guy I'm still intrigued about is Wandy Rodriguez... 24 K's to 6 walks.... and he's a lefty.

OK, so why is Zeke coming to town and not Wicked Wandy? Is Zeke on schedule to start that day and Wanda not?

Long live Garner.
This is good news - Zeke is not lights out Lidge but at least I am excited about what he brings to the table.
Now what is left is to move Adam to a more RBI friendly slot on the line-up and subsequently move RoadRunner to the #1 slot.

Zeke's stats
4 games 23.1 IP. 21 hits 18 K's 2 Walks 4 HR 4.63 ERA
Your idea of "awful" is a whole lot different than most. His control and dominance looks pretty damn good. Just a few HR's in a couple of games.

Duckworth is a freaking moron. I'll be happy if he never pitches again. He sounds like Redding. I think his IQ is way below average.

They probley won't call him up him untill next Monday now since thats the next time he will be needed. This also will give them more time to find a trade for Duckworth, which is doubtful. Why can't they just make this game up on Thursday since both teams have off days. Doubleheaders can take a toll on a team. Maybe the weather is still going be bad or Astros won't a extra game with Berkman after seeing yesterdays horrible performance.

For some reason, when I see the name Wandy Rodriguez, I think of a girl named Wendy, and then I think that he should suck because his name is like a girl's name.

The later in the year to play lousy teams the better IMO. Maybe by then the 'stros will either be competitive or totally irrelevant.

:(
Pitching change: Ezequiel Astacio was supposed to be called up from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday and to start that day's game against the Pirates. Tuesday night's rainout in Pittsburgh altered those plans and the rookie right-hander will not be joining the team.
Astacio almost stuck with the Astros in Spring Training where he posted a 1-0 record with a 1.35 ERA. At Triple-A Round Rock he was 0-3 with a 4.63 ERA.
Astacio was to have replaced Brandon Duckworth, who has struggled this year. Duckworth is 0-1 with a 12.60 ERA in three appearances, including two starts.
"No, he (Astacio) did not join the team," Garner said. "I'll talk to him before we do anything. I haven't had a chance to talk to him. Everything stays as it is right now with the club. Astacio was scheduled to be in Pittsburgh, but with the weather I don't know whether he got in or not. He was going to be scheduled to start tomorrow but that's not going to happen."
watch duckworth pitch a good game then start 10 more games
