Well, now Amazon is doing trailers, expect lots of buffering.
The movie looks great, can't wait to see it.

Wow, that looks like the craziest thing ever. I remember reading the book a long time ago, so I'm kind of fuzzy on what happens. The author had to have been high when he came up with those ideas.

Read the books multiple times, listened to all the audio cassettes, even watched some of that gawd-awful thing they had on the BBC. There are few bigger Douglas Adams fans than me. I'm still waiting for the Dirk Gently movie. :)

Wishful thinking. :(
I'd thought about using Svlad Cjelli as a handle before, but decided that it was far too obscure a reference and didn't really want to go through internet life as "Svlad".

I'm very happy that I picked this name for this board, and I don't appreciate the insult.

Should I go post a thread in the D&D and ask if my posts are insulting.;)
I should have used a winker. I meant no offense.

When I first went online(on AOL) many years ago...I actually used Slartibartfast.....and to this day, I have ZipoBebrox as a auxilary account on my mom's aol account
you have to be a real HHGTG geek to recognize that one...

I thought the tv show was great. But then again, I was only 13-14 when I watched it. It was really funny as I recall. That and Doctor Who are the best sci-fi shows to come from the BBC.

Isn't it Zaphod Beeblebrox, or something like that?
Anyway, I'm a huge fan of this story and am pumped up about the movie. It looks like it'll be tons of fun, and of course the effects should be outstanding. I can't wait!
Thanks for the link to the trailer.

The trailer looks rubbish. I get the feeling I'll still like the BBC mini-series more after seeing this.
Marvin is just wrong.

How is he described in the book? He looks like a depressed robot with a planet sized brain.

nope....Zipo Bebrox 5x10 was the real name of His High Judgmental Supremacy, Judiciary Pag L.I.V.R. (the Learned, Impartial and Very Relaxed)
Chairman of the Board of Judges at the Krikkit War Crimes Trial
I tried to get Zaphod of course...but it had been taken long before I got online..;)

get the Ultimate edition...that way you get all the books..
The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy
The Restaurant At The End of The Universe
Life, The Universe and Everything
So long, and thanks for all the fish
Mostly Harmless
a couple of my favorite quotes..
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers
exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will
instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more
bizarre and inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already
happened.
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded
as a bad move.

I remain cautiously optimistic that they will not screw this movie up.
Ahhh, the memories. Seems like a loooooong time ago now, so it might be time for a re-read.
I remember the computer game too- wasn't it a conventional, text only adventure game?
Everyone remembers tha answer to Life, the Universe and Everything, but what was the question?
Of course it was "9 times 6".
I never really figured out why, especially since that equals 54, and the answer was 42. Anyone know?

Here's an even better trailer to the movie. Might not work with Firefox though, maybe I'm missing a plugin or something.

I have read the first three books, and loved the BBC miniseries version of it.
I am always skeptical when major studios do movies of books that I really love, especially when I also loved the BBC version of it.
But this film does appear to have some great folks in it. I just hope that it doesn't end up hollywooded to death or anything.
I will see the movie, but I'm more nervous about its quality than excited right now.

"The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie is bad. Really bad. You just won't believe how vastly, staggeringly, jaw-droppingly bad it is. I mean, you might think that The Phantom Menace was a hopelessly misguided attempt to reinvent a much-loved franchise by people who, though well-intentioned, completely failed to understand what made the original popular - but that's just peanuts to the Hitchhiker's movie. Listen."

Watching the other trailer, I recognized Alan Rickman as the voice of Marvin. Great choice.
That review is depressing. Oh well, I'll still see it.

From KingCheetah's link...
This is a terrible, terrible film and it makes me want to weep.
Wow. The article says to me that every fear I had about how this movie might turn out is true.
I hope it's not true, or an exaggeration... but this website is devoted to Adams and the Hitchhiker story, so there's no reason I can imagine for the author to unnecessarily rip the movie... rip it to shreds. What a shame.

The BBC miniseries may have had low production values, but it at least seemed to be true to the spirit of the books. I can only hope they've done the same this time... I'm sure I'll go see this thing out of curiosity, but it might be disappointing...

Oh my.....
If it was some random movie critic...I could dismiss that as someone who doesnt get it.
but...this site is dedicated to THHG..
This concerns me greatly...:(
but...I have disagreed with others criticisms about movies many times in the past...I imagine I will still go ahead and see it...you can rest assured that I want to give it a good review...so, if I come on here and tell you it is horrid...then you know the worst has happened...
btw....any of yall that havent seen the BBC version interested in seeing it?
I have them in digital video form, and could make a torrent if any are interested.

Guess I'll wait for that. If they aren't true to Adams' goofy style, I don't want to waste my time.
