Got this idea from another thread, but generally: Players that just always confounded us and found a way to beat us G Derek Harper G Nate McMillan/Gary Payton/Eddie Johnson/various sonics F Dale Ellis F Larry Bird C Najera? New school Dirk Nowizitski Chris Webber? Tim Duncan
Stoudamire is a good one. He did burn us a lot. In fact he would even burn me in video games - I remembe playing NBA Live 98 on Playstation and I lost to Toronto twice despite winning most of the rest of my games - he hit a turnaround 3 point jumper to win one at the buzzer, it was sick. Stockton I would hesitate to put on since we got the better of them in the playoffs twice - it was a 2-2 tie IIRC.
If I remember correctly... the player who had the highest scoring night against the Rockets was noneother than... ...Rod Strickland Didn't he light us up for ~55 points one night? -- droxford
Marbury I believe went about 2 years without beating the Rockets once until the Knicks debacle earlier this year - he scores points but they always lose against us.
How about Sam Cassell. He always seems to come up big when he plays against the Rockets. Nick Van Exel is another guy who seems to play better against us.
Craig Ehlo count? droxford- Strickland's career high is 37. Perhaps you were thinking of when Dana Barros dropped 50 on us?
Dale Ellis. I had to eat chicken pizza and put the foam hand in the window at 45 degrees just so that he'd hit the rim.
I hestitate to put anyone "new" on there since there's not enough of a history yet. Damon maybe, Bibby maybe. My memories are from the 90's mostly, so someone else can fill in more 80's stuff. *Harper is a definite. I'd like to add Ricky Pierce to that list of Sonics. (And I agree on the ones you listed) *Kevin Johnson. Pretty much 2/3 of Rockets fans from the early 90's think KJ had much better stats than he actually did based on his play against the Rockets. Consistently killed. *Sam freakin Mitchell *Mitch Richmond *Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf / Chris Jackson *Loy Vaught The others: Mookie Blaylock did it a few times--enough to matter. Eric Murdock Rolando Blackman Tony Campbell Avery Johnson
great one i missed also. Does anyone else hear the damn Seattle announcer announcing a 3 ptr everytime you see one of these guys' names? Had to be one of the most annoying 3 point calls by a PA guy ever.
The one I never will forget as being a Rocket killer is Dale Ellis. Then there was the period where we went and acquired all the Rocket killers seemingly so they wouldn't kill us anymore. Oddly enough, most of them were from Sacramento or GS : Sleepy Floyd Purvis Short Mike Woodson Eddie Johnson Otis Thorpe I know I must be leaving some people off...
