hmmmmm....
trade 5 scrubs for 2 all-stars.
sounds good.
lane - unproven & not young
astacio - never pitched above AA, but a prospect
redding - major bust so far
burke - unproven & not particularly young
munro - proven to be a below average pitcher.
not too likely

YES. DO IT. Bring in Carl. This would be a "Carlos" who would be willing to play in H-town "not about the money". Hometown favorite.

If Lidge is the only guy in our bullpen, we are in trouble.

With all that room in centerfield at MMP Crawford could have a shot at 20 triples. I don't think Tampa would trade him but it sure would be nice to see him in a Astros uniform.

I'll say this....now is when we will really start to miss Hun and his ability to find deals and evaluate talent.

I'm sure the Devil Rays can't wait for that deal to be offered.
We're not getting Crawford, he only made about $300,000 last year. No way Tampa trades a player with great talent with that type of contract.

I was starting to get a little worried, I hadn't heard this from you in a couple of hours.
Like I've said before, give management some time. You have no idea what they are working on right now. I'd rather them take the time and make a good solid move, then to hurry up and make a bad deal, and possibly mortage our future, just to appease fans like you.

They don't have an idea what they are working on...thats what worries me.
And yes, I think they should appease fans like me who buy season tickets and concessions etc and help pay player's salaries.

I'm sorry, I didn't know you had inside knowledge of what's going on with Astros management.

So you want them to make a deal right this moment, whether it helps the team or not? I didn't say they shouldn't make a move, but that they shouldn't rush into the wrong one. I guarantee you that they will make at least one trade and bring in probably 2 free agents (likely bullpen arms) before spring training. What's the rush, last time I checked the season doesn't start until April (or is it late March).

I just don't know how you can say that when you have no clue what their plans are.

yes i do....i want them to do something to help us win now....and if they need to redo something next season in order to clear room and to find another way to win...even if its short term....then want them to do it ...thats the way baseball works these days in case you havent noticed....there are no more Big red machines or 'we are family" pirates etc...teams are built to win NOW with little regard to finances 5 years down the line

its not my job to figure that out....im the fan who pays for the tickets....that is drayton and Tims job...a job that right now they are sucking at by the way
you see, if we HAD A PLAN B, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now...oin fact, even if we had a crappy plan b, we wouldnt be having this conversation right now.....but since we had NO plan b, we are

Wrong, that's how big money teams like the Yankees, Mets, Angels, Dodgers, Red Sox work, not middle market teams. Maybe you missed how the Florida Marlins built their latest World Series championship team, by stockpiling young players and giving them time to develop. The now have a solid young nucleus that will allow them to compete for a while.
Im sorry, i didnt know you had inside info ...you guys are funny how you all can assume something is in the works but we naysayers cant say that there isnt
I give management the benefit of the doubt, they've always made the trade when it was needed, and Drayton has always opened his pocket book to put a solid team out there.
Time to put your money where your mouth is, I bet $50 to the tip jar that the Astros will make two or more moves to better the team before spring training. You obviously do not. Put up or shut up.

basically, if you have a plan B, you put it in motion when plan a fails...you dont devise a plan B after plan a fails...that would be an afterthought and/or damage control

I'll make it 100 as long as you can define what constitutes one or two moves that better the team

yeah..seems kinda subjective to me, too. too subjective to use as criteria on a bet.

Yet, neither do you have any insight nor can you assume as much. All we are saying is that there is the possiblility that something can be done and there is the possibility that there was a plan b.

So you would rather that the Astros suck for 10 years just for one more shot at making the World Series? There is no parity in MLB like there is in the NFL. A long run of success is possible. What is your explanation for the Braves run of consecutive division titles?

i'm not making absolute statements either way. i don't know how i could. i don't know how you can, being honest.
it's pretty clear they're doing SOMETHING given the rumblings about Burnitz and others. something is up, whether we like it or not.

Thats not what I said...re-read it. I want them to do what they need to do when they need to do it....I dont ever want to suck.
FYI - one of the reasons, and perhaps the biggest reason, that the Braves are as good as they are is that they have the BEST GM in all of baseball in John Scheurholz (sp?). He is able to make deals when he needs to and he is an excellent talent evaluator.
Bobby Cox has something to do with it too.

Burnitz's agent is creating the rumblings....saying they want to be somewhere bythe end of the week....I dont hear anything coming out of our camp that specifically says anything.

I would not mind seeing a one year deal with Burnitz or a reasonble two year deal for him. I don't see him getting 6 million per season. He made 1.25 mil last year. I can't see him getting much more than 3 per year.
The Astros need a CF and they could do a lot worse than him. I just don't want the Astros to get him, and then his salary prevents moves that would improve the team.
