I may be biased, but in no way can you compare Vilma performance with Dunta. Dunta was the target from day 1 and has stepped up to the challenge.

Vilma has a pretty good line in front of him.

BS

Dunta is amazing. I dont' know enough about Vilma...but the Texans got it right, big time, with Dunta!!

Not winning it will make him hungrier next year.

Sucks for Dunta. Vilma did have a very good year so this isn't a total disappointment.

Dunta will be a Pro Bowler next year. The only reason he wouldn't is because opposing teams won't be throwing to his side of the field, therefore limiting his opportunities for big time stats.

The furor over the awarding of these meaningless awards amuse me.

But according to who they selected this year, they take that into account for sure.

True, but those guys also had name recognition. Dunta is still a relatively unkown outside of Houston and Columbia, SC.

i'm not sure that's true, leroy. i was hearing the guys on sportsradio talking about how much pub this guy is getting nationally as an impact corner.

Vilma has more name recognition this year. He's been all over the press the last 4 or 5 weeks, esp w/the Jets playoff run. It's all good, Dunta is a badass

I hope so because he deserves it. You just have to wonder because of those in the national media who still pronounce his name "dUnta" instead of "Dontay."

i saw dunta at best buy in sugarland a couple days ago. i was so surprised at his size, hes really a small package. its so surprising because i think hes one of if not the best tackler on our team. just so much explosiveness.

anyways, about droy, no sweat, i think hes gonna have many other accolades in the future, not to mention the many trips to hawaii he'll be making.

I wish I could go back and find it in the draft threads where I called Vilma being a pimp ass stud. Everyone called him overrated but I thought he would tear it up. Too bad I'm lazy.

DO you remember what the thread was about? I have a knack for searching useless stuff, so I may be able to find it... I just need to know if you remember anything on the title or at around what time it was... or similar threads around the time...

You took my line dammit!! When I saw this thread, I thought it was the perfect opportunity. haha.

And yes, I agree, Dunta should have won. The guy is straight sick.

Vilma may have the bigger name because he went to the bigger school (Miami) and plays in NY but Dunta should have won this hands down. IMO he will be the best defensive player in the 2004 draft.

Vilma is good, but was not the contributor Dunta was...I lot has to do with the program he came out of, the team he's on being in the playoffs, etc...

Anyway, glad we have Dunta...Great corner for years to come...Now we need a pass rusher...

Vilma is going to the playoffs and he played a hand in getting his team there. Also, he is in New York and we all know that the entire universe revolves around that city. :D

I'm thinking it was the draft thread, not sure though.

This is an outrage!!!

Vilma: 116 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 INT
Robinson: 88 tackles, 3 sacks, 6 INT

88 tackles and 3 sacks from the corner position is outrageous

Since we're doing that apples to oranges thing...

Vilma: 0 Forced Fumbles, 5 Passes Defended
Robinson: 3 Forced Fumbles, 19 Passes Defended

The said part is that the votes were so far apart. If it was 19-17, then fine, but 9 votes separated it.

Again - BS

Come on now. MUCH better all around? I think an argument could be made for either player myself - but to say that one is hands down better than the other seems to be carrying it away a little.

Vilma had an excellent season for a playoff team - Dunta had an excellent season at the hardest position on defense to play as a rookie.

I know I'd take either of them on my team in a heartbeat.

Are you trying to say that if the drft happened again, you would have selected Vilma over Robinson?

I'm not taking anything away from Vilma, but you can find a good ILB in the NFL all over the place. A good corner is not easily found, especially in his rookie season.

Dunta is a special talent. Vilma is surrounded by talent.

i have rather have a shutdown cb than ilb since the def can be aggressive with different schemes to pressure the qb. both dunta and vilma are superb talents. vilma is definately surrounded by big time talent around him with an above-avg front 4 which makes vilma's job looks easy. dunta does have a good def that can get a constant pass rush and aaron glenn wasnt be thrown at him since most of the nfl would pick on dunta than glenn. dunta should have made the pro bowl this year. he's going to be a stud like chris mcallister, champ bailey, patrick surtain, or ty law. i think the texans should get another stud cb since aaron has a couple of years left to play the nickel back position and possibly faggins could be gone.

A constant pass rush? Hardly.

We are dead last in team sacks (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/stats/byteam?group=Defense&cat=Total&conference=NFL&year=season_2004&sort=106&timeframe=)

And by the end of the season opposing teams seemed to be picking on Glenn more and more not allowing Dunta to make the big play which he does quite nicely.

That all being said I do agree we need another good corner if we dont plan on revamping our pass rush this offseason.

Depending on how the Texans grade the draft I could see anyone from (CB, OG, OT, DT, ILB, OLB, S) being chosen with our #1 pick. And my guess is that they will draft best available player which is the best way to play the draft.

Robinson is a good corner, and the best CB taken in the draft. I had him going in the 1st round in my mock draft 2-3 months before the draft and a lot of texan fans said that was way too high for him. That being said he was still a rookie and I think you guys are getting just a little too excited over his raw talent. He is good already, just not yet among the top 3 corners in the AFC.

Didn't see Vilma play much but watching him pick off Bulger on Sunday and then outrace Faulk and others to the endzone was pretty amazing, dude is lightening quick. Cowart, Barton, Vilma is probably the most stacked linebacker corps outside of Baltimore and maybe Denver.
