Ok, this is via dridge, so many will simply dismiss it out of hand. but watch the video, and keep in mind that anything, a pen, not pad, cards, anything is against the agreed rules. so what is Kerry taking out of his pocket?

DEBATE MYSTERY: DID KERRY HAVE CHEAT SHEET?
Section 5, pages 4-5 of the binding "Memorandum of Understanding" that was negotiated and agreed upon by both political campaigns states:
"No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by either candidate.... Each candidate must submit to the staff of the Commission prior to the debate all such paper and any pens or pencils with which a candidate may wish to take notes during the debate, and the staff or commission will place such paper, pens and pencils on the podium..."
So what did Dem presidential contender John Kerry take out of his jacket as he approached the stage [with his back to the auditorium's audience]?
What did Kerry place on the podium?
Video replays of the Kerry maneuver played all weekend long on the internet.
[A tight zoom analysis of the Boston.Com feed shows Kerry pulling a mysterious item his jacket [14 seconds into video, after commerical]. Kerry appears to unfold some sort of paper seconds later, at his podium.]
A top Kerry campaign source explained to the DRUDGE REPORT late Sunday how Bush supporters were once again trying to distract.
"Kerry did not cheat," said the Kerry insider. "This is more lies from Republicans, who are hoping for a quick change of subject away from the president's performance, and the new polls."
When pressed on the fact that even brandishing a pen from his jacket would have violated debate rules, the Kerry staffer laughed, adding, "See you at the inauguration, Drudge".

You refuse to talk about the guy's own shortcomings. If he is so worried about his own inability to answer a question re: foreign policy that he has to worry about a Kerry "cheat sheet," then he should't be anywhere NEAR that podium.
Christ, the guy got ass raped in the debate. He couldn't answer a ****ing question without mutilating the English language in his response. As the President of the U.S.A. he should be able to provide clear, confident, and above all - INTELLIGENT responses about his foreign policy and a WAR he has involved us in.
We could hand Kerry every ACTUAL "question-to-be-asked" a week before the debate & that should have ZERO bearing on President Bush's ability to articulate responses to any POTENTIAL debate questions.

Even if it was a "cheat sheet", it looked pretty damn small to me, even after he "unfolded" it.
Not much you can put on a piece of paper that small that would have any real effect on the debate.
Unless Kerry was going to have a hard time remembering to say "President Bush made the wrong decision going into Iraq."
Otherwise, it's not a big deal. As was said earlier, these complaints reek of desperation.
And it wouldn't have mattered if Bush had done the same. We all know he can't read, anyway.

The only ones trying to distract from the issues are the GOP. The issue is that Kerry handled Bush easily in the debate and now the GOP needs a talking point to rally their troops and this appears to be their inane, silly distraction.

DEM FLASHED 'WRITE' STUFF AT DEBATE
By GERSH KUNTZMAN
October 4, 2004 -- Was John Kerry trying to pull something at the debate last week?
That question was burning up the Internet yesterday after a slo-mo review of the footage showed the Massachusetts senator taking an object out of his right pocket before the first question.
Was it a cheat sheet — as some conservative bloggers claimed — or was it something innocuous?
Either way, it would violate the debate rules agreed to by both campaigns: "No props, notes . . . or other tangible things may be brought into the debate."
Many blogs offered links to the "Pocket-gate" footage. One, INDC Journal, even posted frame-by-frame stills purporting to show Kerry pulling out a notecard and placing it onto the podium.
But the mystery was solved when The Post reviewed a Fox News Channel feed from Thursday's debate: Kerry pulled out . . . a black pen.
Kerry campaign spokesman David Wade remained angry at the bloggers' guilt-by-insinuation.
"The right-wing attack machine will say anything to steal a debate do-over," he said.
"We plead guilty to having a pen."
The Bush campaign did not comment.
FranchiseBlade
10-04-2004, 08:49 AM
Kerry had a pen, and Bush evidently had paper. What a team they would make. Well maybe both broke the rules then, but only one those infractions could be called a cheat sheet. And it wasn't the pen being held by Kerry.;)

the item kerry took out of his coat and unfolded was white. not sure how kerry unfolded a flat white object and it then morphed into a black pen. bush picked up a pen that was already on the table.

Kerry is a noted (dare I say, master) debater. Bush is a noted retard.
That's why Kerry looked so good -- when your opponent can't even speak in complete sentences or with any clarity -- you're going to fare well in a debate.

Swift boat vets, Botox, tanning, brussell sprouts and broccoli, manicure, French looking, wrong cheese on his Philly steak, tree looking, middle name's Forbes, wife's name is Ter-AY-sa, looks silly hiking a football, looks silly going through a NASA machine, attended a protest with Jane Fonda, pulled a pen, a paper or a handkerchief out at a debate (not to mention the faked pictures you just posted or the fakes of him and Fonda) and you're still tied!!! Kerry won the debate but left himself open for some pretty devastating counterattacks. I just wish the American people could harness all the spinning from both sides -- then we wouldn't have an energy crisis to worry about.

Wrong.
It was a gold plated coke snorter. Junior just had to have a couple of snootfuls to get through the debate. After all, it was obvious he'd rather be watching "Baseball Tonight" than to be caught up in a debate with someone who can actually put whole sentences together all by himself.

BREAKING NEWS: FOX News: "99% Sure It's a Black Pen"
To employ a Ratherism: "I'd like to break that story." (though the objective assertion in my post is correct).
A FOX News representative has reviewed several versions of the debate tape and is almost positive that the object in question is a black pen.
"What he takes out of his pocket ... I'm almost 99% sure that it's a pen. It's a black, oblong object," a FOX News producer told INDC Journal.
Let's leave it at that. The debate rules were violated in letter, but not intent, and any charges of cheating against the Kerry campaign are undeserved and inaccurate. If the tape had clearly shown that John Kerry had removed a pen from his pocket, I would not have bothered to run the post, and any further speculation about the capabilities of "electronic pens" or oblong devices are strictly conspiratorial, partisan nonsense. I do honestly hope that this incident reinforces the importance of following the letter of the debate's Memorandum of Understanding, but I offer my sincere apologies to the Kerry Campaign for running the item and causing any undue negative speculation before obtaining adequate verification from FOX News.
UPDATE: I said "leave it at that." FOX News will probably run an item, so watch Special Report for the evidence that you seek ...

H*ll I'm surprised if they both didn't have EVERY question
BEFORE the d*mn Bi-Partisan Press Conference Started
So many rules. . . and regs. . . in this Press Conference
How could either have been caught unaware?

INDC, one of the sites that first ran the video, now offers this statement, citing fox news sources. i'm assuming fox has better video than we've seen, but i'm not sure you could reach this conclusion based on what we saw on the web.

Thanks for posting that basso, I appreciate it.
Dan Rather should have displayed as much professionalism by apologizing to the Bush campaign for his (and CBS's) massive *****up.

My question is, where's W's apologies to American people, and indeed, his whole "Coalition of the Willing?"
At least Dan Rather's screw-up didn't get anyone killed.
