We need the Giants to lose today. I just want this series to be over, I am going craaaaazy.
I know I've criticized the moronic Cubs announcers endlessly on this board, but the flack that Steve Stone is getting right now is totally uncalled for.
For instance, in the Chicago-Sun Times today, 3 out of the 5 Cubs articles are on the STEVE freaking STONE controversy (the other two being the game story, and how "injuries" did the team in... yea right).
He's become the official scape-goat for this year, and all he did was tell the truth: The Cubs don't play smart baseball, Dusty Baker was wrong to make it an "us against the world" clubhouse, and they should have spent more time worrying about their game rather than announcers and umpiring conspiracies.
Unfortunately, its looking pretty likely that Stone will lose his job over all of this. Baker will refuse to talk to Stone now, and thus none of the players will let him in... and that's pretty harsh treatment for a guy who flies with the team, and is as close to the game as one can be without actually putting on a uniform and being in the dugout.
Honestly... if the Cubs want every announcer to be like Ron "woo hoo" Santo, they can go back to being the laughing stock losers like they've always been.
This whole thing just makes Baker, the team, and the entire Tribune Co. seem like complete idiots.
For a better commentary on all this, read Marrioti's article (http://www.suntimes.com/output/mariotti/cst-spt-jay02.html) ... its quite good.

do they have some pieces of sh!t on that team or what.. zambrano is one of the head turds on that team.. that sucks for the Braves because it looks like Chippers hand was in serious pain when they showed him on the bench.

Curse of the Billy Goat.
Even though I'm happy the Cubs are losing right now, Atlanta looks like a pretty solid ball club.
JD Drew could have been the next Mickey Mantle, if it wasn't for his injuries thus far... but when he's healthy, he's one of the most dangerous hitters in the game.

I believe thats a shot at the Cubs. Steve Stone practically ran off a list of reasons why the Cubs have choked away the playoffs.

If Giants wins today and tomorrow .. then we HAVE to win tonite and tomorrow.

looks like we'll have to go for the sweep and just hope SF loses along the way.
Alright... lets get some runs now.
2 men on, only 1 out.
Remember... LA wants to win this just as badly as we want them to (they're not laying down or anything).
They win one, and they're in... don't have to worry about one game playoffs or anything.
Thus, lets get some positive mojo goin for LA... this is for the division Dodgers... take it, its yours!

In no way are we hoping for a Giants sweep. We need them to lose at least one of these. If we win out and they lose 1, the WC is ours.

Why didn't the Dodgers pinch hit for Alvarez? Jesus Christ! Is there some sort of Grady Little gene encoded on major league managers to screw up in big games?
Another question: if LA and San Francisco tie for the division, what happens to the wild card? Will there be two playoff games before the playoffs?

Well lets see. Only 5th inning and already into the the bullpen, gagne with his cortisone shot, nobody up in the pen. Basically alvarez was his best reliever to go more then one inning. Dont want to wear out your bullpen with Lima vs Scmidt tommorow. Either way its a tough call for a manager.

He's actually been quite good this past month.... he shut us down big-time over there.
Honestly, if the Giants are actually able to sweep a quality team on the road like the Dodgers (who are actually trying to win), then they probably do deserve to go to the playoffs.
But... they'll have to get thru the one-game playoff with us first. (after somehow winning yet another game against the Dodgers... that would be 4 in a row... highly unlikely... see 1980 Housto Astros).

well... techinically, the Yankees just clinched the AL East on a walk-off earlier in the week.
But, if you're referring to "clinched against the team that's chasing them", or "clinched in the final week when the outcome was still in doubt."
Also...for more ex-Astro karma.
Octavio Dotel gave up the winning hit in the Oakland-Anaheim game (but wasn't credited for the loss because it was Rincon's man on base).

I was at the game...right behind the Astros dugout...and the place went nuts when they put the yellow three up in the bottom of the ninth in the old school scoreboard. It seemed like forever before they changed it. "What was going on?" the sold out crowd was thinking. then they went to the total tally and pulled out the zero from the Dodgers line...and put a seven in! The Ball park went IN F'N SANE! It was totally unreal...easily the coolest sporting event I have ever been to.
What a night!
I'll be there for the Rocket tomorrow!

Not to ruin your Rocket experience, but I hope Roger gets lifted when the Astros score 10 in the bottom of the first..
