View Full Version : Kerry embarrasses himself in Michigan

Somebody please whisk him back to the country club. He clearly cannot relate to the common man. In this goof, he is unable to keep his teams straight...
http://www.spectator.org/dsp_article.asp?art_id=6920
To get his Ohio rallies up and rolling, Kerry used a set of jokes to open his events. In Bowling Green, his shtick went something like this:
"If you elect me ... But there's one tough position I will not take: I am not going to choose between the Falcons and the Rockets" -- this is a local reference to the well-known rivalry between Bowling Green University and the University of Toledo...
"I will say this," he added. "There is nothing better than Buckeye football, period!"
...On Sunday and into Monday, Kerry hit Michigan, where he attempted to use the same Ohio jokes. Clearly, the sports humor has to be taken out of his hands before he really embarrasses himself...
..."I just came here from Bowling Green," Kerry told the crowd to subdued applause. "I was smart enough not to pick a choice between the Falcons and the, well, you know, all those other teams out there. I just go for Buckeye football, that's where I'm coming from."
...In an attempt to silence the angry crowd of University of Michigan supporters, Kerry said, "But that was while I was in Ohio. I know I'm in the state of Michigan and you got a great big M and a powerhouse of a team..."

Can't wait for Johnny to come down to Texas to talk some OU football. That'll get 'em energized!
Poor Kerry will have a tough time shaking his Northeast eliteist label.

At least Kerry knows he's a man...
"I want to thank my friend, Sen. Bill Frist, for joining us today. … He married a Texas girl, I want you to know. (Laughter.) Karyn is with us. A West Texas girl, just like me."
—Nashville, Tenn., May 27, 2004
At least Kerry knows anatomy...
"I'm honored to shake the hand of a brave Iraqi citizen who had his hand cut off by Saddam Hussein."
—Washington, D.C., May 25, 2004
At least Kerry knows what office he holds...
"One of the most meaningful things that's happened to me since I've been the governor—the president—governor—president. Oops. Ex-governor. I went to Bethesda Naval Hospital to give a fellow a Purple Heart, and at the same moment I watched him—get a Purple Heart for action in Iraq—and at that same—right after I gave him the Purple Heart, he was sworn in as a citizen of the United States—a Mexican citizen, now a United States citizen."
—Washington, D.C., Jan. 9, 2004
At least Kerry knows history...
"It's very interesting when you think about it, the slaves who left here to go to America, because of their steadfast and their religion and their belief in freedom, helped change America."
—Dakar, Senegal, July 8, 2003
In both quantity and quality of verbal miscues, Kerry is definitely the second-rate candidate.

Like Nixon....
"The Playmaker?: The Redskins made the playoffs but lost in the first round to the San Francisco 49ers on December 26. During the game, Allen used a play that Nixon had suggested that resulted in a loss of yards. With the Redskins’ season over, he decided to root for the Miami Dolphins in the Super Bowl, figuring that his residence in Key Biscane made him a sometime Florida resident. On January 3, 1972, he called Miami head coach Don Shula at 1:30 in the morning and suggested the Dolphins use a quick slant pass in the game."

Bush Insists His Administration Seeking 'new Ways to Harm Our Country'
The Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush offered up a new entry for his catalog of "Bushisms" on Thursday, declaring that his administration will "never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people."
Bush misspoke as he delivered a speech at the signing ceremony for a $417 billion defense spending bill.
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we," Bush said. "They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."
No one in Bush's audience of military brass or Pentagon chiefs reacted.

McClellan's spin...
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Bush's misstatement "just shows even the most straightforward and plain-spoken people misspeak."
"But the American people know this president speaks with clarity and conviction, and the terrorists know by his actions he means it," McClellan said.

Good to see you in the D&D. To update you on what's been going on around here, Jorge et al do actually have a lot more they've been criticizing. For example...
- His middle name
- The state he's from
- The fact he may have used Botox
- His wife
- The way his wife's name is pronounced
- The fact that he and Jane Fonda attended the same anti-Vietnam protests (more than once)
- The fact that he protested the war at all
- Whether the medals he threw were medals or ribbons
- The fact his combat wounds may not have been serious enough
I'm sure there are more. Not too many having anything to do with the actual issues, but you can understand how this stuff would take precedence. After all, they're losing pretty badly on the issues.

I do not think this is something you should hold against a candidate. I'm not happy with Bush (but i'm from holland so ofcourse i'm not happy with him:D) But i would never hold a misspeaking against him. the same goes for any candidate who says the wrong words. Who cares if they make mistakes with words. it is theyre actions that count, and the candidates should be judged by that.

What shady military ethics are you referring to?
Do you mean risking his own life to Save the life of a Green Beret? That's what Kerry did. There isn't even any dispute that that's what he did. That makes him a hero, no shady.
Do you mean Kerry seeing an enemy on shore with a grenade launcher and turning his boat ashore, leaping off the boat, chasing the combatant down, and then killing the man?
Or do you mean following the orders to participate in free fire zones which common at the time, and Kerry later believed to violate the Geneva Convention. When Kerry did those things he was following the orders of commanders who praised soldiers for cutting off civilians escapes in those free fire zones and then killing the civilians. By the way, the commander who praised that kind of activity is one of the people in ad against Kerry.

Many in the crowd laughed when Bush struggled to answer a question about what tribal sovereignty means for Native American tribes in the 21st century.
"Tribal sovereignty means that; it's sovereign. I mean, you're a -- you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And therefore the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities," Bush replied.

Q Mr. President, I would like to know what your administration has done to help women and children in domestic violence situations.
THE PRESIDENT: Well, we've said to the Justice Department, work with states to make sure that the states have got the resources necessary to bring people to justice. That's what states are supposed to do. Supposed to -- states are supposed to pass laws that make it easier for law enforcement to be able to do its job when it comes to domestic violence.
And when I was the governor of Texas, we made it easier for an abused spouse to be able to call her spouse into account without facing retribution. We had notification laws when a spouse was released from jail. In other words, we stood on the side of the abused person. We had the law stand side-by-side with the person, as opposed to making the environment such that many people were afraid to turn in an abusive spouse. And two, if the abusive spouse had been punished, they were afraid of the consequences after the spouse had been out.
This is -- the truth of the matter is, most good policy -- or policy is made at the state level under state laws. And what the federal government can do, the federal government can help on grant-making to help states with those type of laws.
Q And what about the Family Justice Center Initiative? Didn't you announce that last year?
THE PRESIDENT: The family --
Q -- the pilot program -- $21 million?
THE PRESIDENT: Oh, I did, so thanks for reminding me. (Laughter.) How quickly we forget. It was a loaded question, wasn't it?
