The start of the "Scrap Iron" era begins. Hopefully it will be better than the 1M era.
7-16 -- Jake Peavey (5-3, 2.43) vs. Andy Pettitte (5-2, 4.14) 7:05 on FSSW
7-17 -- David Wells (4-5, 3.09) vs. Roy Oswalt (8-7, 3.65) 3:05 on FOX
7-18 -- Brian Lawrence (10-6, 3.89) vs. Roger Clemens (10-3, 2.62) 1:05 on FSSW

It's basically his turn in the rotation. With Roy going on short rest going into the break and Roger pitching the ASG, it makes sense to start with Andy. I believe it will be Pettitte, Oswalt, Clemens, Munro(?), 5th starter (Redding, Duckworth, or a call up).

Have them play it before, during, after at bats. Play it in the dugout. Pipe it in wirelessly thru their helmets (they do have wirelss at MMP now).
Play it so damn much that everybody is thinking only about getting that damn song out of their head.
Then... maybe then... they can get back to playing winning baseball.

There's nothing worse than listening to him broadcast baseball for a losing team.
At least when they were rocking teams at home the past couple of years, after basketball season, he was somewhat tolerable. This year... because of this team's poor play... he's become intolerable.
Here's that great piece of analysis you look for in your baseball color man:
"Here's another big problem for the Astros... when they hit the ball hard, its always at somebody."
I'm sorry... but that's far worse than anything Calvin ever said for him... shouldn't he know better?

Bagwell has an attitude problem, Mister. Garner needs to fine him every time he says a curse word and slams the bat down like that. Bags needs to start gently tossing the bat in those situations and he needs to say a "happy" word or words on his way back to the dugout like: "I'll get them next time", "I almost got that one", or "I'll hit it out next at bat". It's all mental. Shoulder smoulder.

Worrell's asinine comments, such as the one Whag mentioned, annoy me more than Milo's shortcomings. Again, granted, I watch the game more often on tv than I listen to it on the radio. I've turned off the tv many times though due solely to Worrell.

All I can say is, try turning off your tv and turn on the radio to listen to the Astros games. A few years back, before I had DirecTv and was able to WATCH Astros games, all I had was internet radio broadcasts of the games. Milo is clueless when it comes to describing what is going on. He should have retired 20 years ago.
Turn off that TV and turn on the radio, I think you will agree.

This f-ing team...I'm so tired of this crap we call baseball. I don't care what you have to do anymore. Break this team apart and put it back together again. If it means trading people, trade em. If it means benching people, bench em. Our Triple-A club could do better than we are doing on offense anyway. We are playing like we have no pride or heart. This is the worst baseball I've ever seen the Astros play. I'm disgusted. The chemistry on offense is non-existent right now.

Game over, and season over. This team has no fire and doesn't want to win. Blow up the team. With the exceptions of Pettitte, Lidge, Berkman and Lane, every single player on the team is expendable and should be shopped around. The Astros are a team of proven losers, not proven winners like the moronic FOX announcers say.
This has been the most disastrous season this team has had in over a decade.

There comes a time when you just have to accept that it's not going to happen. It would be foolish to stubbornly stay with this thing at the expense of our future. Beltran and Kent need to be dealt immediately. I would not oppose a trade of Wade Miller either - he's just too shaky. I personally would definitely explore trading Clemens and Pettite but I'm sure most here would disagree with me. I've felt since even before the season started that Pettite is vastly overrated - add that to his injury problems and I don't know if it's wise for a rebuilding team with a fixed budget to pay him $10mill/yr. Drayton would get death threats if he did it, but I think it'd be the smartest business decision.

Hey brother, with me you're preaching to the choir on this issue. I had the exact same concerns about bringing in Pettite this year. I thought there was one saving grace about obtaining a Pettite in the off-season, this team's window of opportunity was closing fast. Add to that he brought in Clemens so I slowed down on the criticism of the move. Pettite is overpaid and overrated, but considering you get him and Clemens for this season for a combined $13 million I believe, its hard to beat that. But now that this season looks to be just about over, its time for Drayton to start thinking about the long-term future.

pgabriel: I had no issues with them signing Pettite this summer because this team was looking to contend. I just thought the expectations put on him by some were pretty ridiculous considering he had an ERA above 4 last season. Most people talked about him like he was some great ace. He's not. What Andy Pettite is is a damn good pitcher who I would want on my team. He's the best big game pitcher in baseball. The problem is that the days of the Astros contending are over. They can either stay in denial and hold onto these guys and suck ass for eternity or they can start dealing these guys off for some top prospects in hopes of restocking faster. The bottom line is that $10mill/yr for a guy who is likely to spend a considerable amount of time on the DL for a team that won't be in contention is not smart money.

Bagwell's homers never mean anything. They always come when we are losing big or winning big. I believe Hunzicker was talking about him when he said something to the effect of, "It doesn't matter if you end up with alot of home runs at the end of the season if those home runs don't help us win games."

If that were to happen (the Pirates catching us), this would go down as one of the most disappointing seasons in history.
sure would. What makes it worse is having to watch it 5/6 times a week. At least in the NBA you get a 3 to 4 day reprieve, or a whole week in football. Watching this pathetic showing every single day just makes the frustration that much worse.

Did you really expect Garner to turn this bunch of losers around in two days?
Most of the guys you are counting on are old, and have heard it all before.
They are so old they are going to have trouble finishing the rest of the season, let alone finishing strong.
I would not be suprised if we end up in last place.

I can't believe your sarcasm. You defend Drayton, Gerry, Biggio, and Jimy. Who exactly is to blame then? Brad, Adam, Morgan...
Better yet, why don't explain what you would do to improve this team.

I can't remember the rest of the quote, but I believe it's something along the lines of.... you're worthless all of ya! You overpaid sissies...

Two weeks and two months to go for NBA preason/exhibition games. :)
Wish it'd get here sooner though. :(

I thought the Astros offense would be the same way the Cardinals offense is. All the talent the Astros have and the bats have just went south. I think the lack of fire on the team is killing them. Berkman or Beltran will hit a homer and the bench gives a little golf clap and a lame ass pat on the back. But when Pujols, or Rolen hit a homer for the Cards you see the bench fired up and ready roll. Thats the difference between the two and thats why the Cards are in first. I just don't believe the Cards have that much more talent than the Stros.

Of COURSE. The 'Stros just need their bench players to CLAP HARDER. Call Garner right now.

Adam Everett will be the biggest beneficiary of having Gaetti as a hitting coach in the majors.
He turned around his career before last year at New Orleans... and now, he can continue that progress.
Way to make the Padres pay for leaving Lawrence in one hitter too long.
EDIT: And, of course, it wouldn't be an official baseball season if Ryan Klesko didn't hit a HR in Minute Maid Park... finally, they can now start the season.

Klesko owns MMP.
That was an awful hanging slider.

I didn't catch the game today and we finally win one.
If the only way we can win is if I don't watch, then I'm game. :)

Here's for hoping.
I really hope Gaetti can do something with these hitters; Everett seemed happy he's here.

I can't believe the Astros won a game. What are the odds of them doing it next game? 1:1000?
