'Sopranos' star vs. 'Queer Eye' guys

Tuesday June 1, 2004

FUGGEDABOUDIT! In what's gotta be the dumbest freakin' move ever made by reality TV, those "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" queens suddenly invaded "The Sopranos" set and -- with cameras crankin' -- chirped cheerily at hairybear bossman James Gandolfini: "HI, there! Ready for your makeover?" That's when all HELL broke loose, say insiders. Turning bright red with anger, Gandolfini snarled, "Get the f--- away from me!" When his message didn't immediately register in the Queer Ear, Gandolfini exploded! "WHO THE F--- LET YOU IN HERE?" he shouted. "TURN THOSE F----N' CAMERAS OFF . . . NOW!" Finally reacting to their star's outrage at the on-set ambush, "Sopranos" producers -- who'd allowed the "Queer Eye" invasion thinking Gandolfini would be amused -- quickly started shooing The Gay Gang toward the exit. Boss of All Bosses stormed off to his dressing room fuming, and refused to return until he'd been guaranteed there wasn't a Queer Eye in sight!

Strange. Most of the stuff I've read about Gandolfini is that he's a nice guy. You would think that would have been amusing.

He could very well still be a nice guy.

More than likely he was just really embarrassed.

Yea, esp. if he was on the set. I'm sure he's very intense and in character while on set. So they didn't run into James, they ran into T.

you don't go up to this guy offering him a makeover

I think you nailed it. I have heard that Gandolfini is a nice guy, but I think lots of actors would have reacted the way he did.

Really? I've always heard that the guy is a complete jackoff who has tried to quit the show numerous times over money and movie deals.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Am I the only one who has never seen The Sopranos? I have The Godfather Trilogy and Goodfellas on DVD, why should I watch The Sopranos?

Hell, it took me about a year to figure out that the show in fact wasn't about a women's choir.

I'm a big mafia/gangster movie fan and I've never seen The Sopranos either. I always hear that it's great everything but I want to start at the beginning, I would rent the seasons but I'm to lazy

Dude... before this year, I was in the same boat as you. Loved Godfather (probably my favorite movie), loved Casino and Goodfellas... but just never got into Sopranos.

Then, I had HBO free for 3 months and got HOOKED.

Now, I've been renting the seasons from netflix and catching up from season one.

Trust me... its worth it... you won't be dissapointed... it combines a little bit of everything from all the mob movies, and its awesome to watch these characters develop thru the years.

Last Febuary HBO aired all 4 seasons of the Sopranos. I hadn't seen the first 3 seasons so they were all new to me. It's hard to explain, but after watching 1 episode it just hooks you. The characters are great, the acting is top notch and of course if you like violence this is the perfect show.

i believe Gandolfini's ex wife gave an interview about a year ago talking about their drug use. James came out and confirmed the story, but said he hadn't touched any drugs in 4 or 5 years.

I had also heard that was one of the reasons there was a delay in the taping of the new season.

no, taping was only delayed because Gandolfini held out for more money. Even then the taping wasn't delayed very long. They always take their sweet time when they film the new season.

For those of you who have mentioned having not seen it and being big fans of other Mob related entertainment, The Sopranos is an entirely different animal. You should really give it a chance. Watch a couple episodes of season 1. If you don't like it, you've lost a couple hours of your life that you will never get back. If you do like/love it, you will have 60+ hours of bliss ahead of you.

That was the story, but was it the complete story? I've seen where that was just a smoke screen because of his other problems.

didn't JG play a gay mafia guy in The Mexican?

i've never seen an episode of The Sopranos either and I do have HBO. But now they supposedly had a storyline about a gay mafia guy this past season. Was that plotline any good?

OK, OK, OK. I'll give it a shot. This bbs has yet to let me down. One of these weekends, I'll just rent Season 1 and give it a shot.

It's just that I'm very stubborn when it comes to shows that "everyone else is talking about".

You won't be disappointed. :)
I'm a huge fan of movies about the Mob, and I'm a Sopranos junkie. Sure, sometimes there's an episode when you sit there, with your mouth open, and mutter, "Why in the hell did they do that??", but not often. The kinky stuff is just some added spice to one of the best series ever to grace the small screen.

(clichés free of charge- ;) )

Sopranos is a great show that just doesn't hold my interest. I definitely recognize it as one of the best shows on TV. It's as good as Six Feet Under which I love. I just don't find the mafia all that interesting or compelling. I didn't care for the Godfather series either, although I recognize them as being great films.

Yes, Gandolfini was a gay mobster in The Mexican.

WARNING - POSSIBLE SOPRANOS SPOILER

They never really developed the plot line. Tony Soprano's future son-in-law saw one of the mob guys in a compromising situation with another guy. The mob guy knows that he was spotted by him. The mob guy then asked the future son-in-law to go to a ball game with him, but you were never quite sure of the intent. The FSIL was a bit freaked out by the whole thing, but they haven't touched upon it since and next week is the season finale.

At the time the mob guy was spotted by the FSIL, the FSIL was just Soprano's daughter's boyfriend. I got the impression he may have proposed more for protection (if he was Soprano's son-in-law then he wouldn't be "hit" for what he knows) than anything else.

How's this.

I'm the biggest "Sopranos" fan on the planet... (to the point of obsession.)

But I've never seen the Godfather movies.

Go figure.

strange... even still, you'd think you'd want to see the Godfather simply for the amount of times they reference it during a lot of the Sopranos episodes.

So, you could never appreciate Sylvio Dante's impressions of Al Pacino, huh?

Well, I know the gist of the movies and I've heard enough quotes to have a basic understanding of references to horses heads, driving through a tollway booth, etc.
