SAGINAW, Mich. -- A Michigan jury has convicted Golden State Warriors guard Jason Richardson of domestic violence.
The 22-year-old former Michigan State University star faces up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine.
Authorities accused Richardson of shoving his ex-girlfriend so hard that she fell, struck her head against a wall with so much force that it created a hole in the wall.
Richardson claims he was acting in self-defense.
The incident took place in April at the woman's apartment. Richardson had gone there to pick up their three-year-old daughter.

trouble for the Warriors. Good news for the rox playoff chances I suppose.

anyone want to start a pool on how long it takes for someone to post a trade proposal based on GS not wanting to deal with losing their SG for 93 days.
btw: is it wife or ex-girlfriend?

I guess the Calbert Cheaney signing makes more sense now, huh.
I love it when he claims it was self defense.
He's 6'6 220 lbs and had to put her head through a wall to protect himself.
Unless she's Queen Latifah on steroids, I don't buy it.

I'm not gonna justify what he did .. . . but when a woman fights u
just cause they smaller. . .doesn't mean the **** don't hurt
If you wife comes at you with a peice of broken glass. . .what do you do?
Or she starts slapping u like in the movies. . .. . .
You just suppose to take it and go . . uhm stop.
I'm not saying beat her senseless but you have to do SOMETHING
Maybe he just did the WRONG SOMETHING

93 days and 500$ seems kind of light to me

MAYBE?????????????????
Unless your wife is coming at you with a lethal weapon, hitting her is never the "right something".

Exactly... He should have just tried to run and avoid contact at all costs.
I don't buy that he was acting in self-defense, but even if he were, there's no reason to push a woman that hard(...a hole in the wall??)

If she was coming at him with broken glass, I think he would have gotten off with the self defense. If she is just slapping at him, then of couse you do SOMETHING. I think in that situation, you either walk away, or grab her arms as she is slapping you and don't let her hit you. I don't think that would be difficult for a guy his size. If she doesn't calm down, let go and walk away.

We all know that Richardson is a team player, while Mobley is a punkass. Jeezus HP.

Yeah, walk away or hold her arms so that she can't hit you. I'm 6'6 and I'm pretty sure that I could do that with most women (except maybe Queen Latifah).

I agree. If there was any justice, he should get an extra fine for that stupid attempt at saying it was "self-defense".
However, I agree with Rocket River that it's not like it can't hurt just because it is a woman attacking you. These little beasts can be pretty mean!!!! :D

She slaps you. Slap her back (using the same force though). Gender equality. Isn't that what they always preach about?

Gosh, it sure makes perfect sense now that GSW decided to build their team around JRich and not Jamison...

Who wants to bet the punk doesn't even serve the lousy 93 days.
He should serve that and more in a common cell with a couple of dozen 300 lb. sex offenders.

I think you're confusing gender equality with violence.
With regard to the Cat/JR, Speedy trade proposal, Is J-Rich a good defensive player? If not, I don't want him. I think he's overrated.

I don't think his crime was that bad. 93 days is the max he's up for, so it is unlikely that he does the full 93. There are some crimes that people tend to popularly condemn beyond all reason. Domestic violence is one of these. I can understand it: it is a crime that has historically been neglected for too long, one that has recently been strongly villified in movies, TV, the news and whatnot, and it's a crime that is an affront to any sense of chivalry. But, it really doesn't make him Hitler. Someone got him very mad, attacked him and he pushed her down and hurt her. It doesn't sound like it was a recurrent theme in their relationship but just a single instance of violence. He'll spend a month or two in jail for it. Sounds fair to me.

How do you know she attacked him? The jury obviously did not find his defense credible.
She probably made him mad and he pushed her so hard, her head went through the wall.

My understanding was that the jury thought his self-defense was not credible because she didn't pose a viable threat. I may well be wrong. It doesn't matter much to me. It is a case of assault that didn't get all that ugly as far as assaults go. I really don't see it as that big of a deal. I'm just annoyed that he'll be villified as a wife-beater (ex-girlfriend-beater doesn't roll of the tongue) or a thug forever because of a single instance of assault. He might be a thug or an abuser unbeknownst to me, but this one conviction won't make him so. And not many people will stand up and tell people they're going overboard because it was a woman that was hit.
Btw, they said it made a hole in the wall, not that her head went through it. Also, why do we care about the wall; how did her head fare? Apparently, it didn't hurt her too bad or else they'd be talking about her head, not the wall. I'm sure it hurt, but there apparently wasn't any serious bodily injury like a concussion or a broken bone or a big cut.

It doesn't matter to me how little the damage or abuse was. I don't condone any sort of violence against women. It doesn't take a tough man to beat up a woman.

Amen.
Just calmly take said lethal weapon and gently push her ass out a window.
Kidding, just kidding of course. :D
But seriously, put a hit out on the crazy bitch or cut her brakes or something...

I dunno... remember Chuck Finley, the ex-Cardinals pitcher? Didn't his wife, Tawny Kitaen royally f***ed him up or something? Women can be quite dangerous.

Well I don't believe in the "men should not be physical against women" thing. You think people like the character played by Katie Bates (is that her name?) in Misery doesn't exist?
It all depends on the situation. Women are humans too, just like men.
But I'm not saying that JR doesn't deserve whatever coming his way, if he is indeed guilty.

All Richardson can do is dunk.
If you guys think Mobley's ballhogging was bad, you ain't seen nothing until you've seen JR.
