View Full Version : Dancehall Reggae Artist Charged
I saw in the news that Sean Paul was charged for using profanity in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He would either have to serve community service or pay a fine of $20. When I heard it, I could not believe what I was hearing. This is not the first time something like this happened as Snoop Dog and Ja Rule also faced similar charges.

Reggae artists aren't supposed to cuss. If they do, it ain't Reggae. Call it somethin' else.

Reggae may not cuss but Sean Paul isn't technically reggae...he's dancehall...which is different. Bob Marley is reggae. Even if you don't know the difference, Sean Paul's style is nothing like Bob Marley. That's the difference. Dancehall is upbeat for one thing. Bob you listen to while smoking a doobie. It's not upbeat.
Honestly, dancehall has some of the filthiest language around. It's just most Americans can't understand what they're saying so they even put it on the radio. Shabba Ranks regularly had cuss words in them that played over the air.
Dancehall and curse words is like beans and cornbread. It can be worse than rap. Only difference is dancehall uses more creative words and interjects them in the song is part of the lyrics. As opposed to rap with cusses just for the sake of it.
So telling a Jamaican not to cuss in a slong is like telling a Texan not to wear a belt buckle. It's almost silly if you ask me.
But if you repeat those lyrics to the mother of the house, in Jamaica, you'd get your face slapped or asked to leave.

Why is this newsworthy? He's got 20 bucks to pay it with, doesn't he?

Definitely. I think he's a pretty rich guy...
Anyways.....why didn't you put Sean Paul in your title? I knew it was him anyways...because what other Dancehall artists does anyone know or care about?
20 bucks! Oh no! What a crime......

So, does anybody else only hear "blah blahblah blah blah blah blah oooohhhhhhh" when his song comes on? I can't understand a word.
