AWESOME.

I was so bored by it. I was pissed because the Rockets were losing. And the Astros were losing. And it was just horrible.

And then...I watch the news and Chris Wragge says it's the bottom of the 9th and it's 7-5!!! So I checked the game, and wow!

2 on base. 1 out. Beautiful!

And I was like...Orlando Merced?!?!?

And then he hit a beautiful thingy that Larry Walker couldn't catch. And it was just great. I don't know why Brad Ausmus didn't try to score though.

Then they walked Vizcaino.

And Biggio...first pitch......past the third basemen! The crowd goes wild!!!

Lovely game. Awesome actually. I'm beginning to like this team.

I heard one Espn guy (The one that does the comedy things, and his wife is on there sometimes, I think) say that his mother-in-law said the Astros would win their division by at least 10 games. I might by sayin this a little too early, but if they keep playin like this, I think she was right!

I do. Their sports reporting isn't really the best though, but the interviews are usually pretty good and revealing. You know what else is revealing, they have naked chicks in that mag as well.;)

We never do this kind of thing. I feel like we are the team that always collapses. Tonight's game was incredible. I had quit watching and decided to go back out to the other room and just see how it ended up and I made it in time to see Kent's single load the bases and then all the runs score. Great game. Also, apparently this is the first 2-0 start in 24 years for the Astros! Which is amazing, but that's what they were saying during the broadcast.

It was the Royals who started the year 2-0 for the first time in 24 years.

in the first series of 2001, the Astros swept the Brewers in a 3 game series.

My bad. My roommate told me that's what they said which I found hard to believe, but I listened anyway. I guess he misheard them. Thanks for the correction.

Articles?? There are articles in there? I never knew that.

The end of the game was great. I got mad and turned over to watch a movie. On a whim I trned back to the "Stros to see if the marathon was over and happened to catch all of the 9th. What a nice finish. If they keep this up they will be really scary especially if they do this on nights the pitching is not great.

I went to last nights game and took a friend from down the street. At the end of the 6th inning he wanted to leave because we were getting beat and he was bored. It kind of pissed me off but it was getting late and I knew he had to get up for work tomorrow and I didnt. I am one of those that never leaves until the last pitch is thrown. I hate leaving early and on top of this we were 7 rows up from 3rd base. Awesome seats. I was really pissed off when we got home and I saw they came back in the bottom of the 9th. Needless to say, I'm never taking that fool again.

You know, it's a damn good thing we ended up winning that game, because had the comeback fallen just short, I would have been all over Jimy William's ass for having Brad Ausmus bunt with 0 outs on the board. And I also would have been all over Lamont's ass for not sending the second runner home on that double by Merced.

But as it is, things worked out so I am happy. :D

Having Ausmus bunt was absolutely the correct call. He lays it down like he's supposed to, you've got two runners in scoring position with 1 out...and no chance for a traditional double play.

Maybe if Ausmus hadn't led the NL in HIDP last year...

I agree. As soon as I saw Doggy get on I knew Ausmus should be bunting them over. He just laid down a bad bunt. Helton plays bunts a lot like Bagwell. H egets to them quickly so you really have to put them down the 3rd baseline and make the 3B come get it.

Ausmus has been locked in to start the season. I say let a guy like that ride the hot streak. The way he is hitting right now, I'd say the odds that he would ground into a DP is about the same as putting down a poor bunt that doesn't advance the runners (like what happened).

I just don't like giving up free outs when you are mounting a comeback like that.

I must admit, I turned off the game in between watching my Rox suck and Kent striking out...

When I woke up this morning and turned on ESPNEWS...I was yelling and screaming...

Now that's what I'm talking about...Never giving up, unlike my Rox...

I'm glad Dalgy and Biggio came through because last season, we would have choked...This is the year...

No matter how you look at it though Basbeall Managers take stats into great consideration. In their minds if a guy hits into a lot of DP's then he has a good chance of hitting into one at any given time. But if he lays down a bunt a high percentage of the time it works out to yoru advantage. You always want to put the ball in play and make the other team work for the outs. In hindsight I don't even think Ausmus would have been at the plate if he had not been hot the last few games. Williams would have pinch hit for him because he did not want to risk the DP. But Ausmus is a decent bunter and Jimy probably felt comfortable with him being able to move the runners up. In a 9th inning where almost everything was going their way that one thing did not work out.
A lot of what they did (including holding up the 2nd run) is part of managers late inning logic. You never want to run yourself out of a big inning late in a game and you always want to move tying or winning runs into scoring position.
