I will be watching the proceeding from the comforts of my home. I have been to MM Park before and it is lovely.
We will crush them today. Oswalt will be filty - Bags will start the year hot (for a change) - Berky will represent as usual - Kent will be clutch and Doggy will be .....well doggy.
Go Astros!!!

Even if Dalgy falters, we have Jason Lane!
I hope Lugo stays healthy and bats from the 2-hole. He can really cause havoc with his speed.
I hope to see a bunch of power tonight...

I havent been this excited for the start of a season in a long time. Im thinking they can be the Angels of this year. Its been forty some on years we deserve it.
Tonight they will easily. Cant mess with OSwalt.

I'm out of town, but will be watching on DirecTv...
I can't wait...I wish I could be there, but here's what'll happen:
Stros' 7
Rockies 5
Kent, Bagwell, Berkman & Dalgy homer...

How are you going to watch on DirecTV? It's not on there tonight from what I could find. I didn't even see it on MLB League Pass. Maybe that's just my area as their showing the damn Mavs game on channel 643 where they usually show Astros home games? I'm in the D/FW area...by the way. Maybe it just wasn't in the direcTV guid yet but I doubt it?!?!?!
I am so pissed right now. I really want to see this opener. If MLB league pass has it on tonight and were just late listing it, then I may have to purchase it.
I think I may get the game tomorrow but then the third game of the series says no TV at all for anyone.
Stupid TV. Stupid Mavs. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
I can't even enjoy a home opener for my beloved Astros. Argh!!!

LOL...I'm listening to 1190 am. Thanks. I'm listening to it on this weird camping gizmo. It has a two speed fan, a radio, a light, a siren, and a flourescent all built in. You can run all this stuff at once. I got it as a gift. It's hilarious!
I didn't want to use my regular receiver.
By the way, I haven't lived in an apartment for years...hehe.

I know it's kind of early to talk about this stuff, but if the 3-5 spots in the rotation are a problem, if we are way ahead or contending for a playoff spot come trade deadline, do you think we would make a move for a starting pitcher and who do you guys think would be available?
By the way, Blum just homered, damn this game is kicking ass.

You could try the live video from mlb.com. I watched it a bit during their free trial and the quality, while O.K., did not seem to be worth the $79.95 fee.
I'll be subscribing to the MLB package again this year.

I am paying $139 for MLB Pass on DirecTv, if the freakin game can be seen on a computer, why then can't it be shown on a television?
I am seriously considering a letter to "whomever it may concern" but feel it not a worthwhile effort (Bud Selig is the devil).

Great game! The place was PACKED, they announced that it was a record season opener at Minute Maid Park. (Is that even saying much?).
It was awesome seeing Kent get a homer in his first at bat. He had a long standing ovation. The best part of the night was Bagwell hitting 2 homers (first guy to do it on the Astros since some guy like 30 years ago). He struggled with that shoulder injury all last year, I hope he has a monster year and proves he isn't done yet.
Berkman was 0-4 and we still got 10 runs!

11K's? I thought it was only 1. Thats what yahoo fantasy says.
Great game. :)
For those of you who saw the game, how was Biggio out there in CF? I think that, more than anything else, is what really scares me about this season. If Biggio's not cutting it out there, I really hope the management makes him a bench player.
I love Biggio to death, but I'm not sure how he can possibly patrol our vast center field considering his age.
Other than that, this team looks great. As long as they can stay relatively healthy(a must with pretty much any team), this really culd be our year.

Good game, however it really sucked that they kept the roof closed. It was a wonderful night and there are very few Houston evenings like this during baseball season.
Yeah, I know it had something to do with the eagle that flew around during the tribute, but hell....we fans had no idea. People were screaming "OPEN THE ROOF".
Welcome to the Stros, Kent. May you be as good of a slugger as Moises without the freak injuries.

I was at the game as well, and as good as the game was...those new cheeseburgers (made by Nolan Ryan's Beef CO.) ROCKED! You guys have to try them.
I know it's only one game, but after watching Lugo's progress (or lack thereof) over the last couple of years....this guy's GOT TO GO. You can't tell me that there isn't someone out there that can bat .250 and play good defense! Adam Everett could do that! It really was a good game though...
I also think that Chen will improve.....he can't be that bad! (well...maybe he can....)

Did you happen to notice any of Lugo's improvement last season before he was injured?
jtotheb
04-02-2003, 05:38 PM
Okay Raven...if we are going to live in the past then maybe we could revisit a certain playoff series with Atlanta.
I know it was one game, but 2 errors? Did you not see the first throw he made to Bagwell? It was a great throw if Yao is your first baseman. I'm not a Lugo-hater.... he seems to have a great attitude and I know that he's still recovering from injury. I just hope that "improvement" you spoke of continues this season. Jeff Kent isn't necessarily Gold Glove calibur defensively but at least he can put up solid offensive numbers. If they have one of those lackluster offensive nights that the Astros are prone to having, the glaring defensive weakness they have up the middle could be even more of a weakness if Lugo can't get simple outs.
It really doesn't matter because I am sure that Jimy will sub out at SS often enough to try new things while giving him a shot at fulfilling his potential.

Valiant comeback!
This is the bizarro Pirates/Astros game from a couple years ago when Wagner gave up the bomb to Giles to lose it after Mike Jackson & Co. blew a 7 run lead with 2 outs.
I thought Stynes was going to catch Biggio's liner. I was preparing for the worst. Luckily it didn't happen.
