This is pretty much it. There's nothing else that I know of. Once we know what the contract situation is we'll know more about Coop. And that should light up a brief discussion on our chances. As of right now I think Swoopes is playing at her usual level, Tina Thompson hasn't been rebounding very well (but had 11 in her last game), and Gibson has looked pretty average against some average competition. She can't shoot to save her life. But I still like her a lot.
I'd really like to see a mock draft, but can't find one anywhere. Right now I'm building up my scouting reports for my web site.
Seattle fans are pretty good about talking wnba in general over at http://www.stormfans.org
They hate Lisa Leslie so you can get into some good conversations about that.

I'll help you guys out, did anyone see the WNBA's new commercial last night during the Rockets game. It looks like they are finally going to try to sell sex appeal.

I missed that commercial, but I noticed the wnba site is throwing hot pictures around a lot. I think it's good for the game. And the woman seem to enjoy showing their other side. The NBA does the same thing. They rely on sex appeal and personality to market the game. I'm all for it. It will help get men excited about the WNBA a little more. I think Sue Bird has a very attractive face and some of the other girls have it going on too.

I think that most people aren't talking about the Comets right now because the season hasn't started. And if a bargaining agreement isn't reached soon we might not be talking about them at all. I doubt that will happen, but they certainly don't seem in any rush to get a new agreement together. And personally I think that's really sloppy on the parts of both the league and the union. They met like four times from November to the beginning of March. And NOW, 3 weeks from the college draft, they have decided to meet on a more regular basis to get this agreement ironed out?
I certainly don't know what politics are involved in this bargaining issue, but it seems like they have simply waited until the last minute to really get to work on the agreement. I think that is going to allow the league to "pull one over" on the players, because I feel that the players just might settle on less than what they want and deserve, so that the season can get under way. I think the league has definitely got the upper hand at this point. I don't think the players will strike although they have hinted at it. I am a huge women's basketball fan. My mom played in college and she has seen how far women's basketball has come. I played briefly at the junior college level, until I tore my ACL, and it's was so exciting to see the excitement regarding women's ball.
I say that to make a point of my love for the game but I am also a very realistic-minded person. And I do not feel that, if worst came to worst and the players DID strike, that the league would survive. There are a lot of American sports fans that are waiting for the WNBA to fold, which is sad because I feel if you truly love basketball you can get into any game on any level (college, professional, high school, jr.high, etc.). But a lot of people are intimated by women taking center stage and they channel those unrealistic, 1950-ish fears out on women's professional leagues.
I know that I have rambled on and on. And I also know that this probably not what houstoncart was talking about when he/she (sorry, houstoncart, I don't know if your a male or female) said let's talk about the Comets, but it's just been something I've been thinking about. Thanks for listening to me and my endless chatter! :)

The offseason is way too long to really stay into the Comets after the season. It seems like years in between seasons. I consider myself a fan but geez I could really care less what scrub was signed or released or how Tiffani Johnson is losing weight (again) or whatever.

cometsluv4play, is that really you? Before I became a member of CC.net I used to browse through the Comets forum in here and I always loved your posts! Where have you been? Do you usually only post during the season or what?
I became a member so that I could post and then you disappeared! Come back and start posting...NOW :) ! (please)

somebody missed me,......i still post here, but you are right not as often. not a whole lot to discuss with the WNBA right now until the League & Player's Union hammer out a CBA to work under this year. the Draft is only two weeks away.........they are pushing it.
i promise i will spend more time here just for you. we will try and breathe some life into this group board that we are feed to the wolves in that NFL & MLB trolls kick us around a bit. the die-hards are still around PhiSlammaJamma & Outlaw.....Rocket River. they are always fun to chat with.

CBAs, especially in sports, rarely get hammered out early. Both sides know they will get something between the owners and player's offers, so they push it to the deadline hoping someone will blink. It's the nature of the beast -- and not really good for anyone but the negotiators.
This is an interesting situation, because the WNBA was set up with a contract that greatly favored owners. The players want something closer to what the NBA has, which they arguably deserve, but aren't going to get.
I think you are right though -- if they don't get an agreement, the WNBA won't survive. The league is still struggling to establish it's identity, and if the players push too much, the owners are going to say it's just not worth it. NBA teams (pretty much all sports) are struggling due to the economic conditions, and they aren't going to support WNBA losses much longer. Fans will go elsewhere -- as one person said, there are a lot of alternatives, both in basketball, and other entertainment venues.

Let me add, I wasn't aware that the NBA was trying to sell sex appeal. Since the NBA is all male, and the majority of basketball fans are male, I think that would have a very limited chance of success.
I guess it's a more natural option with the WNBA. However, it's not a good sign when a team/leauge starts shifting it's focus away from the sport. They should work to sell the game.

I am huge Comets fans but there is too much right now on my plate to focus on them now from The Rockets, Astros and NCAA (although my Kentucky Wildcats are out).
Maybe sometime in May, discussions on the Comets will come back. It really disgusted me how LA manhandled us last season and the way Utah ate us up. I want revenge this season - the WNBA trophy is our birth right.

We won the series 2-1 against the Sparks so I think we did OK against them. Utah/San Antonio is a problem though. Hopefully Snow will be ready to start and dominate. Would love to pick up a Crawley or Baranova from the 2 dead teams.

The Comets played their best basketball all season long last year in the two wins against LA. The last win over LA, which they won without Tina, was remarkable.

Great college games last night. Texas broke up the party. Purdue's web site will be reeling too. They really get into their basketball something serious.

I have found from past experience that people that make ignorant comments about the WNBA, such as zoork34's, suffer from a few issues.
Males that make these comments tend to be insecure with their manhood. I don't know if they just fear successful, strong women in general or if they've gotten embarassed by one on the basketball court. Regardless, males who make these comments have some type of issue with female success on one level or another.
Females that diss the WNBA are A.) usually non-athletic and have no basketball knowledge, or B.) simply jealous.
I leave with this message:
Guys that hate on the WNBA: find out what the root of your anger towards women stems from and seek help for it, seriously.
Ladies, we've come a long way, but we've got a lot further to go. Support other women that are doing something positive with their lives and that are setting a positive example for little girls. We have to face enough adversity as it is, don't bring more of it in.
