For the third time in a row, that horrible feeling came to me that says the Rockets are going to lose, by 12. Well, the same feeling was with me for the last two games in a row, and we won both. Maybe this feeling is a blessing...
Again, I hope my feeling is all wrong and the Rockets win.

Yao has had poor games thus far against the Sonics. With no dominating front court player at all (C/PF/F), I look for Yao to get double and tripled teamed all night.
Rice will be our savior with his 3 pt shooting. Rice 18 pts, 4 3's!

The Sonics love pissing me off, so I say they take this game. I'd love to see the Rockets continue to roll; however, I've got a feeling we go back to the dribble, dribble, dribble, pass to the other guard, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, jack up a last second shot type of game that we all know and hate. That or we blow huge lead.

The Rox aren't a good road team. They may have done well lately but they could very well suck the big chicken with this next game. Just hope they can continue with the team play and keep getting the ball to Yao EARLIER in the shot clock.
That dribble, dribble crap seems to be the easiest thing they could fix with their bad habits, but they refuse to acknowledge the bad effects it has on their offense. They'll probably win, but I wouldn't be suprise if they didn't. I guess they'll have the excuse of Rudy not being there if they lose, its something new to blame, especially because that 'we're young' BS is a little too old for a team that has been together consistently for almost an entire season.

Although James is hurt, I think Elden Campbell will get alot of minutes against Yao. I watched 2 of the Charlotte games earlier this year and Elden played Yao really well (Magloire got in foul trouble both games).
It will be interesting to see if Yao can learn from his past matchups with Elden.
On a side note, I find it extremely disturbing that we BAIL OUT these hacks when they are in foul trouble. Many times, Centers will have 3-4 early fouls against Yao but we stop going to Yao. If Campbell gets in foul trouble, we should continue to pound it in until he is FOULED OUT.
Alirules
03-18-2003, 01:15 PM
I don't understand how all these second tier centers all get hyped up guarding Yao. But when it comes to Shaq they are nowhere to be found. How come Yao has to figure them out after a game. I guess tis is what happens when you are a sar rookie. The vets wanna knock u down. in couple of years we won't even know who is guarding Yao because n one will be able to do anything against him.
Whar's the exact game time? Rockets website say 9pm, Sonics say 7pm. If Sonics's time is right, Houston time should be 8pm.

i JUST HEARD a quick interview with Nelie on tv. It was talking about how he does not anticipate anything in games. If he does, then games against bad teams end up going to overtime or losses. He said instead the team practices and maybe even over practices for each game, so that if it is a bad team it is a blowout game.
It sounded really good when he spoke this.
I hope the rockets feel the same way, it seems that they might finally have realized this is the way to feel. Now that they have beaten two terrible teams this last homestand.

The worst problem with the few bench out there so long really is the wrong chemistry. The team has been successful basically with two different groups of player on the court at different time. Yet, tonight, most of the time, we did not play the group intact.

Where the hell did this bitchy little idiot come from? Hey stoke, you seem to forget that Moochie is 5 for 5 from the field, that's why he's still in. And Cato played a few more minutes because he was playing better than Yao. There, I said it. He had 6 pts, 3 reb, and 2 blocks in about 8 minutes. If that's not good production, I don't know what is. So just shut your mouth because the Rockets aren't doing exactly what you want them to.

This is the worst excuse for coaching I have ever seen. Larry Smith should be coaching in the YMCA not the NBA. Why is Moochie getting so many minutes at the end of the game and where was Yao? When we're having problems scoring isn't it obvious we need Yao in the game? We give him the ball, he dishes, and at least we get an open look. Also the Rockets defense was just horrible late into the game. No intensity and they allowed the Sonics tons of second chances and turned the ball over like none other. The assistant coaches apparently don't think Yao is valuable to this team. Why else does he log 2 minutes of playing time in the fourth quarter when the team is losing badly. Rudy needs to straighten ***** up when he watches the tape of this game and let everyone know on the team and coaching staff what Yao means to this squad and that we need him as our clutch player in the 4th. He's delivered before and he could do it again if he had the chance. 7 shot attempts? gimme a break. If this team consistently benches him in the fourth and doesn't pass the ball don't be surprised if we have unhappy Yao ming in Houston.

Firstl of all, some of you guys really need to get a hobby. *lol* Seriously, is that all it takes to get the hatred on this board started up again: a loss in the Rockets last six games (5-1)?
Okay, now for my bitching *hehe* Reasons are about to lose tonight:
1) They left their defense and rebounding in Houston! Seattle has absolutely crap in the front court and they actually outrebounded HOU -- the NBA's second or third-leading rebounding team.
2) Yao needed to become more involved in the offense b/c of the aforementioned crap the Sonics have to challenge the big fella.
3) Turnovers. Stevie and Yao MUST cut down on their turnovers. Now, they've done a better job of it during the winning streak, but four and five TOs a game just won't cut it and the opposing team usually scores off these mishaps. It's really killer considering the two most important positions on the floor -- PG and C -- turn it over so much.
4)Lastly, I have to question the substitutions of "Mr. Mean." Rice didn't get nearly enough time and Yao sat entirely too long I believe. Also, Mo T could have been used a bit more. But it's his first game head coaching, so I guess he's allowed a mulligan.
Hopefully the Rox turn it around against Portland Wednesday. It'll be tough for sure, but they seem to step up their level of play against tougher opponents.

Nah, here's your ballgame:
Rice and Yao shoot 50% from the floor and their reward is getting benched. (Of course Rice was benched first then hit his shots).
Still though, 29 minutes and 8 shot attempts for your star center and a measly 13 minutes for your best 3 point shooter? That's laughable. I could have coached better than that.
2) Yao needed to become more involved in the offense b/c of the aforementioned crap the Sonics have to challenge the big fella.
Just a quick question. How would he be more involved offensively besides setting picks and trying to rebound when NOT getting touches? We were not passing him the ball enough period
I'm so tire of the excuse 'the <opposite team's> defense denied Yao the ball so well". This game was no where near the game we faced Celtics several weeks back. That I can see, but this game...we just shut our big fella down.
As soon as the first game away from home with no pressure from their own fans, the guards just reestablished their old bad habits right away, dribbling, iso, and jacking up low % shots. That's ok. Like someone has said, 5-1. It's just irritating that Rockets' guards seem to have two styles. One winning style to please home fans to avoid pressure and criticism. The other style being selfish and don't care if we lose.

Yao just came in and got dunked on by Jerome James after we went off to help mobley who was getting killed by Rashard Lewis. Then Yao comes back on offense and gets doubled and gives posey a beautiful over the shoulder pass for a layup. Next thing you know, Yao is on the bench and Cato is in.
Why was he taken out? wtf?

The Rockets must hate Rudy or something if that flaming piece of dog crap in a bag that they called an effort was dedicated to him. Absolutely horrible game, no matter what the score says. You could tell in the second quarter we didn't have a chance, even though it was still close then. Where was Rice for most of the game? What the hell was Mo "I force up more shots than Cat" Taylor doing in there for more than 8 minutes? By the way, I wasn't saying that the coaching wasn't bad, I was just pointing out that it wasn't the only factor.
I predicted a 2-3 road trip, but now it's gonna be 1-4 at best. Meanwhile, I think Phoenix has a pretty tough schedule coming up, so they shouldn't jump too far ahead of us for that last playoff spot. Question: Why is it such a big deal to get into the playoffs? We're gonna have to play the Mavericks, who swept us in a very humiliating way already...we're just going to have to endure another 4 games of embarrassment.

well, everytime yao got the ball, they quickly doubled, leaving posey open. Did yao and rice even play at the same time tonight?

I posted a thread yesterday entitled: Boys to Men: the time is now. I said that this road trip is a test of maturity. Well, guess what, they are still boys. They think like boys and they play like boys. Erase the seeming progress of the last five games. This was the "gimmie" game of the week. It only gets harder. Well boys, NO PLAYOFFS FOR YOU! Good night little fellows, good night little Stevie, good night little Moochie, and little Cuteenie, one day you will grow up and get a heart and a brain, maybe.

They shot 50%...
but what?
5 turnovers?
Desperation.
Glen Rice HAS TO PLAY WITH MO TAYLOR.
You need MoRice combined....Wolverine Power. And we need Rudy.
But still...........you all know that Seattle did a good job. They knew everything that we were gonna do. And on defense........we didn't make ANY adjustments. We decide to put SIX-FOUR CUTTINO MOBLEY on 6-10 RASHARD LEWIS AT THE VERY FREAKIN END OF THE GAME!!!! :(
And we left that Kevin Ollie guy open ALL THE TIME. No one cared about him.
We just screwed up.
We gotta win tomorrow.

As far as I am concerned the fans shouldn't have to be in force at away games to make the players share the damn ball with Yao. What i'm most pissed about is his benching of the entire fourth quarter except for 2 minutes. It's not like we were winning big. Instead they put Cato in who just gave up fouls in the fourth. If the coaching staff can't even emulate Rudy T's style when he's not around, what have they been doing on the sideline the entire season? Picking their noses? Yeah, before the game Coach Mean said "nothing is going to change." Yeah right. Rudy is not that dumb.

I just failed to understand what the game plan was tonight.Rice got no time at all even though he was shooting pretty well. Yao needed to get more shots tonight as well.If we don't rebound we can't get second shots and that is even more important on the road with so much pressure to score.
We have to get back to what was working for us uptil now and and to make adjustments or else we will be in big trouble.

Shoot. I know why this happened to Yao tonite. Larry is responsible for counting Yao's touches when Rudy is coaching. They must forget to have somebody to do this for Larry. Everyone must be thinking Larry is gonna do it. But Larry thought I am coach tonite. Forget about the stupid counting thing! I have more important thing to worry about.

Hmmm....Why do the players for the nuggets/cavs/bulls/clippers/grizzlies etc... even bother showing up for games now? They know they're just gonna be blown out or lose the games anyways. Why do they embarrass themselves like that???

It's the coach (huh assistant coach) who let the guards jack up shots. Seattle's middle was soft but we never made an effort to establish an inside game and attacked their soft middle. What a game plan!

The Rockets don't win unless they come into the game wanting to win. Glen Rice not playing was pissing me off! Isn't this the kind of game where Glen Rice should be playing! This game was lost because of coaching/substitutions. This is not a good time in the season for that to be the case. I am getting suspicious, darnit! poop!

Nice stat…the only time Cato touches the ball is when he rebounds or goes for a dunk. I’d to see how he handles double and triple teams or if he to run (or in Steve’s case try to run) the offense (I’m not bashing Cato, because I know boards and dunks are his main attributes). Hey guess what Boki had zero turnovers too.
I was dying to get a timeout from Larry Smith in the 4th to stop the Sonics run after we had cut the lead to 6 points. Then they scored to make the lead 10 or 12 points again. Shakes head.
Why did they take out Yao in the 4th? Because he got dunked on? Because he was playing support defense on Ollie? Argh.

*haha* Uhhh...that's what I'm talking about. Yao getting more involved offensively = Yao getting more touches. @ least that's what it means in my world.
And BTW, Francis attempted 13 shots (and he did have eight assists) -- three under his reg. season average of 16. He made six of them and the other attempts weren't counted obviously b/c he was fouled. Was he the only one interested in getting to the line. I mean, thr Rox are a good free-throw shooting team, right? And I've been real coo' with Mobly during this streak (but not b/c I thought he was really doing anything special), but tonight. I just have to shake my head. He takes some of the dumbest shots and I absolutely HATE IT when he brings the ball up and attempts to play PG. It's like he doesn't even look to pass the rock.
And the turnovers are killer. And Ray Allen quietly made Mobe's his bitch tonight.

This is the price you have to pay to have video editors as your assistance coaches. The game plan and substitute pattern were horrendous. The guard's defense was terrible. Calvin Murphy keeps saying the guards need to do a better not letting their guys hurting the big guy. No one rotates to cover Yao's man everytime Yao is forced to cover the penetration. This has been the situation why Yao got dunked on most of the time. He had to cover both guys at the same time.

I agree that Eddie could get the ball more, but Eddie needs to become a more consistent shooter, man. Seriously. His shot is ALWAYS FLAT -- just like his freebies.

Franchise was once again one number shy of a Trip-Doub 23PT 10AS 9RB...... Rox should win when Franchise gets these numbers, but of his 6-13 FG attempts, 4 were 3PT attempts, and none went in. Cat was 1-6 from 3PT. Overall, Rox was 25% from 3PT range on 5-20, yet the Rox still has pretty good overall FG% at .479. I'm thinking that if the Rox drove in a few of those shot attempts for a higher scoring chance closer to the basket, and be more just a little bit more alert about turning over the ball (yes, Ming and Steve combined for 8), tonights game would've extended the Rox winning streak to 6 games. Yao had 8PT and 7RB by the end of the 3rd, it looked like another doub-doub night for the rookie, but I don't understand how he only played 2 minutes in the 4th. It would seem that somebody was making the wrong decisions, utilizing the Rox offensive weapon options. It was as if the Rox counted on Rice to save the game, which he may have had he also been considered for a little extra playing time.

Francis/Yao are the go-to guys on the team. Everyone needs to know and respect their roles. I see a lot fo guys out there trying to do too much and thinking they're better than they really are.
That's why I love a guy like Cato! He plays his ass off and knows what he's in there for -- defense, rebounds, intensity. Sometimes Posey, a lot of times Mobley, and even Moochie soetimes gets in there and force things by themselves.

Exactly, man. I'm really starting to see why a lot of you guys say Mobly needs to be traded. That will almost force things to go through Yao-Francis. Has to be that way. I know Stevie is a loyal homie and everything, but Mobley has to either become a helluva sixth-man again. Or has to be that star that he covets to be on another team.

Yeah, seriously, Stevie was not the reason the Rox loss tonight. Hell, if everyone could've had his, Cato's, and Yao's hustle and overall play tonight, we (the Rox) would've been all right.
Only thing to bitch from me are his turnovers and making it a point to get yao the ball. Even whe Stevie doesn't have the ball in his hands (like when Mobley/Moohcie bring it up), he needs to tell them to get it down to Yao. He does it sometimes, but not as often as he should.

I don't blame any Rox player for the loss, but I am really disappointed with Mr. Mean. He failed in many aspects of the game: substitution, offense execution in the fouth quarter
and stupid three-guard lineup. I thought He might be better than
Rudy. But one thing I do know he has the gut to bench Yao during the crunch time.
