Andre Johnson's pro day workout

Sands ran a 4.7? That has to be wrong because during the season they were saying he was very fast but had average hands. And I thought he was a sophomore anyway.

Hmmm..Andre ran between a 4.28 and a 4.4, had a 41 inch vertical, and is 6'3" and a 220-230. Well, unless something happens we may have the 3rd pick. I don't see us picking ANY OL that high (sorry Kiper) and with the Texans signing Weigert and trading for Randall, I think Capers and Casserly feel better about taking a possible gamebreaker like Andre.

Bethel Johnson ran a good 40 time also. He ran a 4.27 and a 4.31. He might be someone else to keep an eye on in one of the later rounds.

Although I have no idea, my best guess is that Miami Hurricanes have a proven track record of success in the nfl. So if I'm going to take a WR I'd be glad to pick one from Miami.

Andre would be awesome, however, I don't think the Texans are sold on using a #3 on a WR..., let alone a OL...

I see us trading down and getting someone other than the top WR & OL...

I don't think there guys from the last 5 years have met their expectations. Of course none have the size of Johnson. I don't think where players are from plays into the draft much these days.

in the article in the chronicle today, casserly said, "andre is certainly worthy of the 3rd pick."

if i were handicapping this thing, i'd say taking johnson is probably the most likely scenario at this point.

whats Andre Johnsons attitude like? Is he the type of guy who signs a large contract then takes it easy. Or does he a have a strong desire to be one of the best? Does Andre Johnson have that special something that Rice and Owens have?

I see no reason not to take Andre Johnson. He's exactly the player we need, and I still think he's better than Charles Rogers. I can just imagine having Andre Johnson, Jabar Gaffney and Corey Bradford running routes for Carr, with Willis McGahee in the backfield (in two years). I think we have the chance to really solidify a great team in 3 years by drafting Johnson and McGahee.

well, since he's never signed a large contract... by all accounts, he's great kid who works his ass off. is he the next rice or owens...? time will tell. he has a lot in common with owens, physically, that's for sure.

where to begin... how's this for a reason to not take johnson: his pass catching skills were labeled "average" after his workout last week. posturing? possibly. but no one's ever been infatuated with his receiving skills. and he is NOT better than charles rogers. no way, no how. in fact, i think there's a wide gap between the two. and the texans could draft earl campbell and jerry rice in their prime and it wouldn't mean shiite until they shore up the OL. and by "shore up," i don't mean wiegert and randall.

Bear in mind that Rogers really lacks strength. I could see him struggle to break the LOS, against jamming CBs.

say wha? rogers is the most complete receiving prospect to come along in... who knows how long. he's big and fast, runs pricise routes, knows how to separate and has extraordinary hands. ask big 10 DBs if he lacks strength. or ask the notre dame secondary. or the fresno state secondary.

what are you basing this asserion on...? is he as strong as johnson? no, nor is he as thick. but this isn't either or. he'll have no trouble with CBs jamming him.

I never doubted that Rogers was big, fast, runs good routes, etc.

I just question if he'll break the jam at the LOS. College CBs are NOWHERE near as physical as they are in the NFL.

NFL CBs jam the LOS much more than college ones not only because they are much stronger, but also because half of the offenses in the NFL seem to favor the horizontal passing attack of the West Coast Offense, which thrives on quick 5-step passes, to where you have to physical CBs who can jam the WRs, and then tackle as soon as the ball is caught.

I don't know if Rogers is a good fit with Det's WCO. He's a deep threat, not a guy who takes a 5 yard pass, then runs with the ball through traffic, ala Terrell Owens.

Ric I agree with you about Rogers.

KR-Rogers is certainly as physical as some of the histroical greats like Rice, Loften & Brown or like current guys who have been quite successful (Moulds, Jimmy Smith, Rod Smith).

I'll take the great athlete with great instincts over the phenom athlete with modest instincts any day.

EVERY rookie has to make an adjustment to the pro game, regardless of position, rogers included. the game is faster, more physical, more mental...

rogers, size-wise, is comparable to some of the NFL's biggest WRs, and at 21, has time to fill in his frame. strength isn't, nor will it ever be a concern for him.
