View Full Version : Why don't more people use the email feature?

I often wonder why folks choose not to share their email in the profile options?

The good thing about using it, is if you want to reply to someone, off the board, you can do it through email, saving server space.

Also the BBS does not actually publish the email address on the board... it will send it out when you send an email from the BBS though.

I think people are afraid that their email is actually displayed somewhere on the BBS and as far as i know, it isn't.

What's your reasoning for not sharing your email address in your profile?

yeah, I've been wanting to email TheFreak to convince him to come to Houston for a game so Smeggy could see him run up and down the aisle like a madman waving his free t-shirt!

I'm just worried that I'm going to piss someone off, and to get back at me they sign me up for a bunch of crap I don't want in my inbox. If I could use a Yahoo account to register, then I would share my email. However, since I can't and I have to use my school email address, I'd rather not take chances.

It doesn't work like that. If you click the link, the bbs gives you a text box to type your message, and then sends the email to the recipient. The sender can't get your email address unless you choose to reply to their message via email. The sender, of course, will have given you their address. The BBS attaches that to the message you receive.

If you want to try it out, email me through the board. I guarantee you won't see my address.

Of course, if you do that, I'll have your email address, and I'll be able to sign you up for a bunch of crap you don't want in your inbox. :D

arkoe, don't listen to Bailey when he says to email him. He just wants your email address!

instead, just email yourself to see what happens.

There's also a shortcut key for safely testing the email feature. I think it is Alt-F4 on Windows.

I no longer use the e-mail address in my profile. I can't change it to my current one because it's a yahoo address, and I don't feel like bothering Clutch about changing my e-mail address for me...

I didn't realize that; I switched my email back to being shared.

If no e-mail, why not just using private message?

Pm'ing puts too much of a load on the server. It is already overtaxed so Clutch has PM disabled.
