Just a thread on another message board about Yao and the government. I figured people from China might actually know the situation better than most.

See the thing is most people from China supports the Tibet thing and feel that Dahli Lama was the one spreading propaganda. To them Tibet was originally a theological government with really really low living standards for people who are of secular life, and that with the infusion of Chinese government's money and control/order the situation got better. I see it as this. Dahli Lama was pissed at China for taking his power, so ofcourse he's gonna speaked out. China might of gotten things better but did so at the expense of some civil liberties. Which do you support, if you follow John Mill's utillitarian philosophy than you would agree with the Chinese government, since majority of people's lives been improved. If you follow Kant's Kantian philoophy then you would agreee with Dahli Lama as any breach of civil liberties is wrong. As of right now I'm more of an utillitarian.

Oh and 2 more things:

1) It might sound hypocritical given my big response but shouldn't this be in the hangout? The only thing basketball about that thread is Yao, and he was brushed aside quickly.

2) Since this thread hopefully is gonna be in the hangout, I have to ask, why is the Cheesecake Factory so crowded on a saturday night, aren't we in an economic downturn
