My car was broken into last night. They got about 80 CDs or so and a wireless card. Bastards, just steal the ****ing thing next time.

You keep 80 CDs in your car??

That's too bad. I hope you can recover them back. Boy, if I lost 80 CDs, I don't know what I would do unless they were ones that I never listen to anymore like Britney Spears, Limp Bizkit, 'N Sync, and Creed. :p :D

That happened to me a few weeks ago, they got about 120 CD's and a watch. Luckily I had ripped all my CD's onto my computer and just have to burn new copies, but it still pisses me off.

I live on Cole, just south of Knox. This took place off of Oak Lawn.

State Farm rocks. They're already sending me a check for $1,175 to cover the losses. Unfortunately, I'm probably going to have to pay for the window myself because of the deductible.

wow, you're lucky. when my car got broken into earlier this year, I had to fight w/ my insurance company for 2 weeks to get my full payment. they kept undervaluing the price of my convertible top!

I was talking to some friends last night about this very topic. They live in a gated apartment complex on Eldridge Parkway just north of Westheimer. One of their neighbors recently had someone break into his car, but the story gets worse. Apparently the 'in' thing to do now for thieves is to eliminate any evidence/fingerprints that they may leave behind. How do they accomplish this? They set the car on fire. That's right, this guy torched their neighbor's car, completely destroying it and severely damaging vehicles on either side of it. Sick, sick stuff.

Jeez, well at least my car didn't get burned!

I can't believe how easy this has been so far. Now all I have to do is get the police over here, get the window fixed, and I'm good to go.

Having to call 911 for a police report is kinda stupid, but at least they can do it over the phone!

Hey just a word of advice. Im in the insurance business and there is a way to get reimbursed for the cost of your CDs and wireless card even though they arent considered a part of your car.

State Farm is a good company. I have USAA, which is only available to military people and their families. USAA is by far the best if you can get it.

I was curious because I'm between Deep Ellum and the Fair Park and I noticed a lot of broken glass along Main this week, like somebody went down the street breaking into cars. Luckily, I park in a garage.

I have a funny 'car got broken into' story. I had just bought my wife a new Volvo. I have one of those driveways that wraps around behind the house and the garage sits back there. On one Tuesday morning (late Monday night) we were lying in bed and we though we heardw something out back. I told my wife not too worry it was probably our crazy neighbor out screwing with his stupid cats. So we went back to sleep. I go out the next morning to get the paper and I notice her car door is slightly ajar. I look in and the 3 day old car has been ransacked.

They stole everything in it. They collected the following:

1. A 2002 Volvo S80 T6 Owner's guide.
2. I had a CD that I had burned a bunch of Fletch, Austin Powers, Office Space, and Tommy Boy quotes along with all of the 'funny' songs that I have recorded.
3. A sleave of golf balls.

That's it.

Why in the hell did they take my driver's guide? And I was just picturing the guys face as he popped the CD in his player...it started off with my Taco Bell Song.

Tee-hee

We called the cops because I we felt so violated that someone had been on our property going through our sh!t. They did a full report and basically told me to hold my breath, that it was probably just kids. Man that was funny.

On a not so funny note I am sorry you lost your CD collection. I am happy you got a big fat check. I am also happy that you came to your senses about hating Dallas!

Before you get too excited over State Farm (although they are still my insurance company and have been for almost 30 years), consider the following:

- we had two cars stolen out of our drive way in Houston.
- we had a car keyed in a parking lot
- someone tried to steal our car during the Astros-Mets '86 playoff series but the crack dome security force prevented it. The steering column was busted and a window broken.
- we had 2 different cars towed 3 times due to mechanical problems.

We filed claims on all of the above over a 2-3 year period. One day in the mail we received a cancellation notice from State Farm. I spoke to a competing Insurance Agent and he said once your policy is cancelled you are entered into a nationwide database. He doubted we could get the same coverage at the same price. He referred me to one company that would charge 30% more than what we were paying. If all else failed, he would write me a special policy that would increase our premiums 3x.

I went round and round with State Farm. I asked if they noticed that NONE of these claims were due to reckless or dangerous driving and we were not in the car during any of the instances. We had 0 tickets and 0 accidents on our driving record. They finally relented and did not cancel us.

Hopefully, this unfortunate incident will not affect your car or homeowners rates/policy.

I am glad things are going well for you thus far.

I literally know everything there is to know about DV. I, along with two buddies, owned and ran a company that purchased dv claims from people that had accidents. We would then own the claim and settle with the indurance company. Life was outstanding for a while. Then the Nazi insurance companies realized that we were a small operation and stonewalled us. They forced us to sue on every claim. The court costs got stiff so wer contacted a mass action and class action specialist firm here in Houston and started a tornado of crap.

It's fun.

You and I could probably have a conversation about this I'm sure. One of my companie's specialties is Diminished Value claims. I do about 10 or so a week and have been to court a few times over it.

The major insurance companies are pretty much paying DMV claims nowadays without question as long as the vehicle owner hires an expert (like myself) to come in and stipulate objective figures. They are doing this because of the class action cases they have lost and the resulting case law that was established.

Its a very profitable claim to pursue and I try and educate friend of mine who are in accidents.

Any reason why you only put 10 songs on the CD?

I got my car broken into once. All I had in it was one of those outlets to plug a portable discman into. They took that and some change. I also had a bunch of tapes laying around. They didn't take them all, but they did take the one labelled "Poison". It was hard to be mad at them after that.

Dude sorry that happened man. I defintely know the feeling! I thought your sh!t was gated so maybe it was one of the residents.

Every car that I have owned has been broken into.

2 times in my Storm in Lubbock.
1 time in my B2200 in Lubbock.
and
1 time in my Honda Accord in Austin.

Its my fault on all 4 occasions because I left the stupid detachable faceplate on each and every stereo and all of my CD's were in full view for any theif to lick his chops at.

You cant get lazy no matter where you are or what time of day it is. One thing I did not have is an alarm on any of them.

3 things:

1. Get an alarm (no matter how annoying they are) especially one with a highly visible red LED light.
2. Tint your windows as dark as freaking possible.
3. Never leave anything of value in your car no matter what the circumstance.

Obviously my dumb ass hasnt quite grasped the concept of these skills because you get careless after a while again.........

Well, unfortunate event with unfortunate timing. But don't let it sour your opinion of Dallas. I have lived here for 12+ years and never had a car broken into.....(KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK on wood).

But I did have a set of hubcaps stolen in Houston in 1989, and my Mustang GT was broken into in Sherman, TX back in 1991.

It's not always the area. It only takes one jackass, and they are everywhere.

Wow Drewdog, a Storm that got broken into twice? Was this awhile ago when it was newish? Because frankly, thieves seem to show no interest in mine whatsoever. I can't imagine why, perhaps it's the symmetrical rust holes over each fender... :D

It was a 1990 Geo Storm and I had it from 1994 to 1997. I put about 45,000 miles on that car and didnt have any major mechanical problems w/ it besides a timing belt that left me stranded in Comanche, TX of all places. I also weathered a blizzard in Abilene and Sweetwater driving about 10 mph down HWY 83 in a blizzard traffic jam. I think that was like 1995 or 1996 and I remember it was during Easter (March or April).

God Bless my G-ride! I miss her! :(

People who steal stuff suck.

If my parents had all the money that they've lost to theft back from their business, they'd be able to retire.

It sucks a$$ that decent people work so hard to be able to afford something and someone decides to take it.

I think we're too soft on theft in our society. We ALL pay for it...whether it be paying higher insurance premiums across the board, or paying more for a DVD or CD because a store has to cover the huge cost of shoplifting.

I heard some guy the other day saying how he grew up in the "hood" so they didn't have a lot of money, so when he wanted a bike he just stole one and painted it. He was so nonchalant about it, like it was the most normal thing to do.

Not to mention that the person he stole it from might have had to have their parents put in huge overtime just so they could get the bike for Christmas or something, but since his family was not well off, it was almost his right to be able to steal it.

This is probably the same guy that switches price taqs in stores, steals gum, and might just rip off some plywood from a construction job to help finish his new tool shed.

We need to be harder on theft in our society...I'm damn tired of it, my family has had so much stolen from us its sickening...

Sorry for the rant....

A friend of mine in LA was so sick of his car being broken into and his stereo being stolen that he superglued razor blades to the wiring behind the car stereo after the fourth time it happened.

The fifth time it happened, the car stereo, plus some flesh and a bunch of blood, were left behind.

RM95, I don't know if this could be adapted to a CD case, but it would be nice.
