Does anyone know when this game is out for gamecube, ps2, etc? Online, every source seems to say July 2002, but that is a bit vague for me.
Anyway, i've been looking at previews and reviews online, and the game looks bad ass. My friends and I have been living off of madden 2002 for a while now, and this would be a great change of pace- there's just something special about playing college games, be it the need to win every single game, or just getting to play with your alma mater.
Anyway, if anyone has any idea, let me know. I can't wait to rip a new one on OU at the Cotton Bowl!  :D

This game is gonna be the best one ever. The producers gave the Horns much props. Here are some of the player rankings:
MLB #42 E.J. Henderson (Maryland) 99 overall
SS #43 Troy Palomalu (USC) 98 overall
CB #3 Nathan Vasher (Texas) 98 overall
SS #2 Mike Doss (Ohio State) 98 overall
DT #94 William Joseph (Miami) 98 overall
LT #72 Brett Williams (FSU) 98 overall
QB #8 Rex Grossman (Florida) 98 overall
WR #4 Roy Williams (Texas) 97 overall.

Apparently they've made it easier to defend the out patterns. Also, it's easier to run up the middle. The stadiums are amazing. There's even burnt orange in the temporarty Kyle Field bleachers if you're doing T+1. I'm probably going to buy a PS2 once this game comes out.

I was going to post about this game, but I was waiting till it came out.
July 22/23 for PS2 and Xbox
July 30/31 for NGC
My goal as head coach and AD at Texas is to make sure OU and A&M never play in the Big 12 championship game. Actually I'm going to make that my goal wherever I coach :D

i heard something about you being able to ship your best players from this game into madden 2003. that would be cool.
the only thing that really annoys me bout these games is that they cant use the actual names of the players. so you are playing with guys like qb# 3 and i find that annoying.

The Prima strategy guide comes out Wednesday. It's about $15. If it has all the rosters then I'm going to buy it. The thing more annoying than inputting roster names, its adjusting player ratings. Hopefully it has info on that as well. And the thing about Madden is pretty cool. Might have to buy Madden this year.

If all you want is NCAA rosters, you might want to check out www.ncaarosters.com (http://www.ncaarosters.com/). This guy will put the rosters on your card for you if you mail it to him with a SASE and a few bucks. It's cheaper than $30. However, he will be updating his rosters and it might be better to get a Sharkport if you want to get all three versions as they become available or if you plan on using it for other games. Also, you might not want to mail him a card and then have him accidentally erase a save or even lose it (although he claims he has yet to lose or damage one). They also have an option for mailing an XBOX card.

I got NCAA 2002 for Ps2. It's Freakin Awesome! You can import your people to Madden 2002(Have that too) some come out early. The ratings are low though. I heard it comes out late June. Too bad my 2002 is scratched and you cant play the games. You can still do the recruiting and everything which is very cool. This game outshines Madden and will continue to outshine Madden IMO... Great visuals, great gameplay, good commentary, great play selections (The option is very nice). Can't wait till it comes out I'm gonna have to get the new Madden too. What makes the recruiting great is that there are a buttload of little cities on there (Hopefully Magnolia will be in 2003, cuz it wasn't in 2002). It's awesome to sign the number 1 overall high schooler out of Conroe or The Woodlands or Stafford. Add in the option to import them to Madden....(Eric Crouch and Josh Reed are a great combo on Madden) This game is Freakin' awesome!!!

Ok, First off, I am not talkign about selling them for 30$. I was thinking like $15, brand new..... And Rocketman95, its all fine and dandy that for 8 bucks you can get a magazine with all the names, but then you would have to waste about 40 hours of your liife entering them all in. with this you just have to do three clicks and you are done. no typing or time required.

and why the hell is NATHAN VASHER rated so high? Hes fast and a good kickoff and punt returner, but 98?!?!

He was our top prospect 2 years ago in many people's eyes in terms of potential (yes, above Roy Williams and company). He's projected to be one of the top CB's in college football this year.

Uhh, I never considered him a top prospect... expecially not over roy williams. I thought he was a pretty good returner, but a top cornerback? Ill beleive it when I see it.

More BOMC (burnt orange media conspiracy) :D
Seriously Vasher is a badass. He led the BigXII with 8 INTs last year. He's a big hitter on D, just ask Texas Tech receiver, Carlos Francis. I was at that game, and you could hear that hit all across the stadium. The play called for a TTU fake punt. Francis is running a pattern, doesn't see Vasher coming at him like a freight train. Vasher lowers his shoulder into Francis and he's on the ground for like 5 minutes. I've NEVER seen a hit like that in my 4 years at UT. Absolutely devastating.
Vasher is a 1st Team preseason AA. He returned 1 kickoff and 1 punt for a touchdown in the spring Orange-White game this year. Big time playmaker.

The Prima guide comes out tomorrow. Since I'm too lazy to drive to Gamestop, I'm going to check it out at Barnes and Noble. It's cheaper there too.
Most than rosters I'm looking for player adjustments.
Good times.

I have good news and bad news.
First the good news, according to Gamestop the NGC version will be released on 7/22, the same day as the PS2 and Xbox versions.
Second good news, there is a difference in terms of graphics. I hope the Xbox version is not a PS2 port. According to IGN,
GameCube owners will notice a pronounced blurring effect on the players after each play is run. As the players are getting up after a play and heading back to the huddle, the running back or receiver who just had the ball will be in crisp focus, while everybody around him in both the background and the foreground will be extremely blurry. It's an attempt to re-create a television camera effect, but it's fairly painful on the eyes. The Xbox version features a nice shiny polished sheen on the player uniforms even on dark colors so the jerseys seem like actual fabric rather than just dark paint. The helmet reflections of the surrounding stadium and lights are particularly noticeable in both the Xbox and PS2 where you can see the sun shining off their lids on a bright day or the ring of stadium lights shining off the top of the helmet like a crown.
Now to the bad news, the strategy guide has been delayed. BOOO! I know.
Second bad news, some already have the game while others will be receiving it tomorrow. For those us who are waiting on retail, its going to be a long weekend. But the game is absolutely worth it on any system, and once Xbox live is working (and if the game is compatible) we'll start a NCAA 03 league for sure.

According to a poster in the EA forums, the strategy guide is exactly what its called...a strategy guide.
No rosters, no player adjustments.
Just rankings, top plays, and walk throughs. Rosters are available free through the internet anyways. I wonder how long it will take to add the rosters of the top 25 and Texas' opponents...

Operation Sports has a list of all the rivalry trophies available. I never realized UT vs. A&M doesn't have a trophy similar to Miss vs. Miss St. (egg bowl).
The Red River Shootout trophy is all mine.

I'll be getting mine TUESDAY!!!!.
Along with a Sharkport. No need to waste 40 hours to input names when you can spend 20 bucks for one of those things.
I just hope they fix UNM's Stadium in this game. I don't want no GENERIC stadium. I want the real deal.

Reason #1 Texas will beat OU this year-
We can rely on Ced's shoulders and legs rather than Simms' arm and decision-making process. :)

Vasher is a very flashy player, but he isn't among the best 20 players in the nation, much less the 2nd best.
I'm beginning to think that a UT alum programmed the game.

All retail stores say the game will be available tomorrow morning. The game has not arrived (unless they are lying). Whenever I receive something by UPS here, I usually get it in the late afternoon. So I'm hoping the UPS guy hasn't made his rounds yet (wishful thinking).
I preordered so supposedly I'll get a call either tonight or tomorrow to come pick up the game. Hopefully tonight. I hear its up to the individual store to determine when to start selling...if its a firm date 23rd by EA then the store could get into trouble. Of course with the competitiveness of the games business (wanting to be the first) and having customers prefer your store, I'm hoping its tonight.

CNN/SI:
Senior cornerback Roderick Babers (5-10, 187) and junior strong safety Nathan Vasher (5-11, 180) are the two returning starters in the secondary. Both will be among the best in the Big 12 and perhaps the nation.
ESPN:
The secondary will miss Quentin Jammer but returns underrated CB Roderick Babers. Plus, Nathan Vasher could become one of the nation's elite cover men.
Vasher's on some pre-season All-America teams. The big question is how he'll adjust to moving from safety to CB.

A cool roster site I found:

I'd have the game in an hour but I got a quiz I can't miss in class.
I don't understand the point of preordering, every store should have the game today. Gamestop called me last night to tell me it will be delivered this morning.
Anyways, who wants to work on the Texas roster together? I hear 53 of the 55 spots are taken. We're going to need to adjust the freshmen, create 2 players (who?), and adjust everyone else.
Also, what are sliders?
Should we start a new thread for it?

I would wait if I were you. The rosters these guys make online are pretty good and in depth as far as players name and depth charts go. Now if you want to make your team even better, then go ahead and do your own thing.
I like taking the easy road and let others get the job done while I have fun playing the game for the 20 or so hours it takes to do that.
Smokey
07-23-2002, 01:35 PM
True, but that's only for PS2 users. Xbox users have to manually do everything unless they send in a memory card to some guy at NCAA rosters.com but I'm not going to buy a memory card.
Funniest thing just happened. I picked up my game at Gamestop and they had a display of the game for all versions. So I started playing as Texas on the Xbox display. First play, run CB, gain 5. Second play, I choose a pass but I forgot which button was which so I just pressed something and Oregon intercepted Simms. Not a good start for me.
