Well, that was quick huh? :)

It's back on for now .... I found something else that I do not need and have uninstalled, and I'm hoping that improves performance (it seems to have, but I can't tell without further testing).

If this doesn't help much I am going to try other things (such as turning "Who's Online?" off again) .... I never thought that took much server load, but as much traffic as the site is getting, I'm trying to disable different things to help speed it up. I need honest feedback on performance though whether the feature I'm taking off is enjoyed or not, because I can always create an additional page to list the users online (so it doesn't have to be loaded on the front page each time).

Hopefully this new change helps.

Right now it is running pretty slow but earlier it was going fast but the whos online was still up when it was running on my 56k modem, more people got on the board since a couple minutes ago though. I think the board will go faster when the the Rockets season starts cuz the rockets prob wont be doing to well and people wont wanna talk about them anymore.(Please dont ban me) :)

I don't know Clutch, maybe its a Houston thing. I'm in Chicago with a 56k and it takes 7 secs MAX, to load. Usually its about 3. In Houston it took me about 10-15 secs regularly and that was with Cable.

How about only allowing registered users to access the BBS permanently. Maybe remove the calender feature, disable smilies, limit the characters in a signature and remove some features from the user profile? A bare bones BBS?

And lose all your great works of art, rockHEAD? :D

Seriously, what about disabling the preview feature of replying to a post? I use it all the time, and would HATE to lose it, but it has gotten very slow. Does it add much of a load?

I use broadband, Sonics GM. It's not THAT slow for me, but slower than it used to be. I love it, would hate to lose it, but for the greater good... ;).

You should take it off. Anything to make it a bit faster.

for some reason the BBS is ALOT faster for me today..

I think it definately depends on the load.
Lessen the load, speed up the bbs..?
Would limiting the users to members only lessen the load, theoretically? maybe?

I definately see a difference in speed between 100 and under online and 100+ users online...

I think I would probably rather have Who's Online turned off than to have Search turned off.

Does post load have anything to do with speed? Maybe it's time to clean house and lose some old, past posts? How long can we archive everything?
