View Full Version : So, should I buy my new notebook now, or later?

I'm getting a notebook computer as a graduation gift from my grandparents. They gave me the credit card #, and told me to purchase it anytime this summer. Now, I'm going on vacation to a very boring place, and would like a notebook computer to take with me. However, I know that I'm likely to get a better, cheaper buy the longer I wait.
I was just going to hold off temptation... but Dell is offering a free cd writer and a free hard drive upgrade if you purchase before Thursday...
...in general, how much do prices depreciate over a 3 month period? Anyone know specifics about the next 3 months?
As always, thanks for your help :).

Depends on what new unnecessary thing is coming out. :)

They're June, July, and August.
Hope this helps.
Hehe. Just buy it man. Dell has been on a tear lately giving 10% off hardware purchases. I'm sure there will be similar deals down the road. If you don't need a laptop now, don't buy it.
I think it just about always works the same: you can buy a little more muscle for the same amount of money a few months down the road. If you can live without it now, I would wait as long as I could. My next computer will be a laptop as well, although that will at least be several months from now--probably some time next year. I want a 15" screen, 256 MB RAM, minimum of 20 GB hard drive, DVD/CD-RW. I would like a Pentium 4 machine, but I can live without one. Even a Celeron system would meet my needs I suspect.
