Okay, most of us basketball fans have a little ( or a lot) of frustrated general manager in us, and that is part of the reason we love to talk trade, even when it makes no sense...

So, it occurred to me, we should all of us take a turn a creating a new Rockets team as we'd like them to be, by trading the whole damn team, and see who can come up with what...So I propose that we each try and come up with a series of moves whose only criteria are these...

    1) Each and every current member of the Rockets must be traded.

    2) Trades have to be as realisitic as we can manage, hence things like trading Glen Rice's contract will cost us more than it will net us. Additionally, we should try and focus, as much as we can, on trading for people that other teams would have reason to want to trade...ie, if we don't overwhelm them with great players like Griffin or Stevie, there has to be a good reason they do the deal...

    3) If you want to trade for draft picks, picks must be based on where the team now stands, not a projection of how you feel the trade will raise or lower their pick. Then your subsequent projected pick must be based on the mock draft of a major publication, for example NBADraft.net...no taking Ming with the 6th pick, etc...

    4) Injured players can be traded/traded for, but keep in mind that their value must be adjusted accordingly...ie, a Grant Hill or Glen Rice ( older or more serious) will have their value lowered a lot more than a Lamar Odom ( younger, not as serious)....

    5) Obviously free agency would affect both a trade commodity's value, and or a move you want to make...However, if part of your solution is " Sign Rashard Lewis..." etc..then you must have cleared up enough room, and salary projections must err on the players' side ( ex. Rashard...max)...

Okay, there you have the rules. This is, I repeat, just for fun, to see what kind of GM's we'd all make, and should in no way be taken for a criticism of the Rockets as they are...And, for those of you with a need to express your disdain, let me save you the time; Proposing trades like "Cato for Shaq"...with a  after, or Saying " If I'm Gm, I keep the team the way it is!" are really missing the point: fun.

Once a number of us have entered their reconstructions, if there has been enough interest, I will start a new thread where we can all vote for who did the best job, but remember, GM's will be judged not only on how good the new team is, but whether or not their moves were realisitic from all points of view...And what way you want to go, a young team for the future, a veteran team for now, etc. is up to you.

Ok, have fun, and I hope this interests people. I'm looking forward to seeing what you all will come up with....

Did you leave off McDyess or is this trade a joke? I would NEVER do this trade. Mobes is at least as good as NVE and EG has more upside than Raef. Why not throw in Francis as well?

    Hmm...its not easy.

Houston Trades Steve Francis Mo Taylor to Milwaukee for Sam Cassell, Tim Thomas, Anthony Mason
Houston trades Moochie Norris, KT, and first round pick to LaC for Lamar Odom, M. Olowokandi
Houston trades E Griffin, G. Rice, O Torres, Kelvin Cato, to Miami for E. Jones., (add playertomakesalfit) lotto pick
Houston trades Cuttino Mobely, Dan Langhi, Jason Collier to Chicago for Travis Best, J. Crawford, lotto pick

    Houston picks Yao Ming
    Houston picks Amare Stodemire

    Ming/Kandi
    Mase/Stodemire (cba)
    Odom/ Thomas
    Jones/Crawford(cba)
    Cassell/Best

Its hard to get rid of everyone, but hardest to part with Oscar! At least he gets to stay with Grif. Maybe I can come up with something better later.

You have to give to get. NVE is a better PG than Cuttino is a SG, though they are close. Right now, Raef is one of the few good centers in this league - and while I seriously believe Griffin will be good, Raef already is good.

If that trade were made, we would regret it in two years. I think Griffin is gonna be a superstar. Raef will not be.

Okay...gave this some thought, and every trade works out on Real Gm...

    1) Steve Francis, Glen Rice
    to L.A. Clippers for
Lamar Odom, Corey Magette, Eric Piatkowsi,1st round pick...

Francis gives them the pg they need, frees up their swingman glut, and they can build around 3 young stars in Francis, Brand and Miles, with solid role players in the Kandi Man, McInnis, Richardson,etc...Rice gives them a vet and a shooter to replace Piatkowsi...

    2) Kelvin Cato, Oscar Torres, Moochie Norris, Tor's 1st pick, Oscar Torres, Clipps 1st round pick, future obligations
    to Chicago for
1st pick this year ( Ming), Greg Anthony, Charles Oakley

Gives them 2 mid-1st picks this year to add pg in deep draft, depth, as they already have all the stars they want in Curry, Chandler, and now Rose. Have long wanted Cato, and Norris helps out at PG, Torres provides a future swing man, plus clears up their obligations...Unload Oakley.

    3) Eddie Griffin, Kenny Thomas, Tierre Brown
    to Cleveland for
Andre Miller, Chris Mihm, Brian Skinner

Cavs, who crave frontcourt dominant frontcourt players get one to build around, and resolve Miller's pending contract troubles. Can replace him with their pick this year in a pg rich draft, and they get 2 decent to good young players.

    4) Mo Taylor, Walt Williams, Cuttino Mobley, Terrence Morris, Dan Langhi, Jason Collier
    to Miami for
Eddie Jones, LaPhonso Ellis, Kendall Gill, Sean Marks

Riley gets what he wants; younger, deeper, and more flexible cap-wise. Jones only significant piece, and he replaces him with Mobley who is years younger.

    * With Chicago's pick, we select Yao Ming.
    * With our own pick, we select Drew Gooden.

    Team.....

    C) Ming, Mihm, Skinner
    PF) Gooden, Ellis, Skinner
    SF) Odom, Piatkowski, Gill
    SG) Jones, Magette, Gill
    PG) Miller, Anthony

Release Oakley...free up $...Marks on ir or relaeased. Great young team built around Ming, Odom, Gooden and Miller, with Jones replaced over next few years by Maggete ( if he develops) or future draft picks. All starters are decent to great defenders, Miller, Jones, Odom, and Gooden all pass the ball well, and backups provide what starters don't. I actually love this team, and all the trades seem reasonable to me...Welcome your thoughts...

Okay, this is being silly, but it is for fun.

How about we trade everyone BUT Moochie to the

    Harlem Globetrotters??

The way I figure it...Moochie is a natural to follow after such Globetrotter dribbling legends like Marques Haynes and Curly Neal!!:D

Plus the team would be funny and fans would actually come to the games! Now, THAT would be something, wouldn't it?

Houston Trades: Steve Francis, Glen Rice, future #1(s)

    SA Trades: Tim Duncan

San Antonio will hopefully look to mix things up, especially if they don't get to the finals this year. The picks they would get would either be (1) a top 7 or (2) two top 8 and beyond.
    --------------------------------

Houston Trades: Eddie Griffin, Tierre Brown

    Cleveland Trades: Andre Miller

Cleveland must do something to liven up that franchise, and Eddie Griffin could do that. Tierre Brown could be a decent PG one day.

    --------------------------------

Houston Trades: Kenny Thomas, Cuttino Mobley

Seattle Trades: Rashard Lewis, Desmond Mason

Seattle probably won't be able to re-sign Rashard, so they get what they can for him. KT gives them some toughness, and Cat gives them more of a scoring presence other than GP.

    --------------------------------

Houston Trades: Mo Taylor, 2 2nd Rounders, Kelvin Cato

Toronto Trades: Keon Clark, Hakeem Olajuwon, Chris Childs

Dream demands a trade back to Houston ;) j/k. This is one of the most questionable IMO. If Toronto doesn't get far soon, they might shake things up. This gives them a mid-range scorer, and Cato hopefully will continue his play of late and give them a rebounding and defensive presence. The only true loss is Clark, as they are trading Dream and Childs to get younger.

    --------------------------------

Houston Trades: Moochie Norris, Jason Collier, Terence Morris, Dan Langhi, Walt Williams, this years #1

    Miami Trades: Eddie Jones

Miami is going nowhere fast, so they deal the playoff chokster for Moochie, an expriring contract, 3 scrubs, and a high lotto pick. Would work out great for both teams.

    --------------------------------

    LINEUP:
    C-- Keon Clark, Dream
    PF- Tim Duncan, (Cheap backup)
    SF- Rashard Lewis, (Cheap backup/pick)
    SG- Eddie Jones, Desmond Mason
    PG- Andre Miller, Chris Childs

**Others would have to be signed/drafted(2nd round) to fill out roster, but this is the core. As soon as Childs and Dream's salaries come off, it leaves room to sign some better backups for more depth.

There you have it...5 deals for everything you need, except depth:

Defense: Clark, Duncan, Jones, Dream all excellent.
    Shooting: Lewis and Jones
    Post game: Duncan, Dream.
Passing: Miller one of the best at PG.

    and last but not least...
The Heart of a Champion: Dream, Duncan, RUDY! :)

How so? Moochie, the pick, and maybe T-Mo are the only players worth anything in that trade. Collier, Langhi and Walt are basically scrubs...1 or more of them would probably be cut after the deal.

Okay, I've come up with a 9 team, 37 player trade that wasn't easy. :D I've decided to rebuild the team through this year's draft, free agency, & by acquiring a few promising players through these trades. Here goes:

    Houston sends:

    Francis/Rice to Chicago.
    Cato to Atlanta.
    Taylor to Cleveland.
    Walt/Boston's #1 pick/Toronto's #1 pick to Washington.
    Langhi/T-Mo/Griffin/Brown/Torres to Denver.
    Willis to Boston.
    Mobley/Collier/KT to Memphis.
    Moochie to Golden State.

Chicago sends Oakley/Best/Hoiberg/Guyton/this year's #1 pick to Houston.

Atlanta sends Bowdler/Dermarr/Email/Vaughn/Mottola/Strickland/Newble/this year's #1 pick to Houston.

Cleveland sends Hill/this year's #1 pick to Houston.

    Washington sends White/Alexander to Houston.

Denver sends LaFrentz/this year's #1 pick to Houston.

Boston sends McCarty /this year's #1 pick to Houston.

Memphis sends Anderson/Buford/Fotsis/Solomon/this year's #1 pick to Houston.

Golden State sends Henderson/Arenas/Oliver/this year's #1 pick to Houston.

Houston receives 22 players in the deal, of which 14 of their contracts expire this year, 6 expire next year, & the remaining 3 (Dermarr Johnson, Jahidi White, Courtney Alexander) player's contracts expire in 3 years. We also receive 6 #1 picks for this year & when combined with our pick, gives us the top 7 picks as of today.

We would keep or resign Dermarr/Best/Guyton/Jahidi/Alexander/LaFrentz out of the players that we received in the trades. The rest would be released as their contracts expire or as needed to get down to the 15 player maximum.

With the top 7 picks, our odds are pretty good to get the top 3 picks in the lottery drawing. I would pick Jason Williams & Ming Yao with the first 2 picks & fill other needs with the remaining 5 picks.

With all the expiring contracts, I'd go into the free agent market heavily. I'd make Duncan my first target, then Rashard (unless he opt's out this year), then whatever players I need & can afford to round out the roster.

My eventual lineup would look something like this:

    C: Duncan/Jahidi/Yao
    PF: LaFrentz/draft pick
    SF: Lewis/Dermarr
    SG: Alexander/draft pick
    PG: JW/Best/Guyton

Hmmmmm, it's got potential. Now, if everyone would just give me those top picks. :D How's that for dreaming?

Is this what you had in mind JAG?:D
