View Full Version : Obama or Romney?

Who will you take? I am a political guy. I am choosing Mitt Romney. I would much rather have Marco Rubio running against Obama, however he isn't. I am sick and tired of the lame excuses by the Obama admin. I want jobs to be created not set aside for some non-relevant issue such as contraception. Trust me there isn't a GOP war on women. $5 trillion piled on the debt! We can't afford 4 more.

If you're a Republican or conservative of any kind, you might as well vote for Romney for the same reason you voted for Dole: the best available candidate who, if not for timing and bad nominees before, would have been in the White House or at least gotten to the general election in a more favorable climate. I like him (personally, not politically) because he seems like one of those third generation Rockefellers: deep-fried in wealth, privilege and powerful connections, but actually smart, ambitious and idealistic enough to make the most of them.

They are a bunch of liars and you have chosen to be duped by them. Have fun with that.
If the debt is your thing.....how can you embrace a candidate who's committed to further tax reductions and a significant increase in military spending before he even has a chance to assess how 'bad' it is? His plans for balancing the budget are very long term. His plans to increase the deficit are immediate.
couple of bits of light reading for you:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/editorials/story/2012-02-07/Romney-Obama-balancing-budget/53003740/1
http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-mcmanus-column-romney-defense-spending-20120624,0,6596765.column
Even in his heyday as a corporate raider, he'd be hard pressed to turn a troubled company around if he was forbidden from making adjustments to the revenue stream and committed to adding new expenditures.
I'm not anti-Romney -- but while he may decrease spending (military notably excluded), deficit reduction is simply not realistic for him given the way he's boxed himself in so far.

Giving Obama credit for this is like giving Clinton credit for the computer craze of the 90s is like me taking credit for the garden that was in my yard before I bought it. Funny, if you want to give credit for those: military complex for Laden, capitalism for the 90s, excellent neighborhood for my garden.

Okay then, enlighten me on how Bush "destroyed the economy".
It's not just how Bush destroyed the economy. It's how lack of regulations caused huge problems and caused the housing crash, lack of oversight on Lehman Brothers and other Wall Street firms that blew up.
Meanwhile Bush is lowering taxes, while spending like a sailor on wars. That shoots the deficit up. Then in order to cut the deficit programs which feed into the economy get cut back, and so that's less money going into the economy as well.
Dodd/Frank had very little to do with it.

Uh...if I recall correctly, Dodd-Frank was proposed in June/July 2009 and passed in 2010.
How did the former President Bush try to repeal it? How did it cause the economic drought when the economy (or at least various stock/commodities indices) bottomed out somewhere around March 2009?

- EESA/TARP was passed to minimize foreclosures

Uhhh you just claimed 2 pages back that a bill that was signed into law in June 2010 caused the financial crisis and then backtracked and claimed that Barney Frank backing Fannie and Freddie caused it. But congrats on your decision to vote for Romney, I'm sure it won't be the last ill-informed decision you make in your life.

Building the Keystone pipeline would create jobs. That is something Obama didn't do. Obama in fact has increased the unemployment rate, caused gas prices to rise, added nearly 5 trillion in the debt, and most importantly broke the constitution. He needs to go. We need new leadership, and Mitt will give that to us. Obama is tanking. Liberals can't stand this. Obama is LOSING campaign money, while Mitt is GAINING campaign money. Obama has unleashed the liberal negative attack ads, and these ads/attacks have backfired. You liberals who are too ignorant to see it need to open your eyes and realize that Obama's policies haven't work. Socialism will never work!! Liberal ideology will never work! Please point to the socialist programs instituted by Obama.
Mitt Romney's budget adds more to the deficit than Obama has.
Republicans have turned down all sorts of infrastructure bills which would create jobs.
You've already been shown to be poorly informed on the issues.

I agree to some extent. He copped out on making a decision until after the election...although given the tens of thousands of people protesting at the White House, I'm sure any politician (including Mitt) would've done exactly the same thing.
increased the unemployment rate
Yes, unemployment has gone up, and there have been policies I wish the administration had pursued more aggressively. But to be fair...it had already been skyrocketing since before 2009 and has come down steadily the past three years or so.
caused gas prices to rise
If you honestly believe the administration has any control over gas prices, then you need to learn more about economics.
added nearly 5 trillion in the debt
Again...you need to learn more about economics if you believe the government should be removing money from the private sector in the middle of recession caused by excessive household debt.
Socialism will never work!! Liberal ideology will never work! Capitalism has worked!! It can work again!
Socialism? Really? Don't allow wingnut opinion to cloud the facts. Which one of his policies has been socialist? Hint: Please don't say the health care individual mandate. Both Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich had supported the mandate in the past.

Nah, he hasn't. If anyone has failed, it's you. It's your failure to perceive the world outside of your sheltered vision of what YOU wish America could be.
Granted, Barack has had numerous tough issues to address. Many of those came from your incompetent homeboy GWB.
If you want to be specific to the thread and choose between Mitt and Barack, examine ALL of Mitt's failures. Failed at a state level, has failed in past campaigns and he still fails to come up with logical solutions to problems. At least Obama attempts to make ground on the issues. Romney stands behind his millions and tries to discuss things that he doesn't come close to understanding or identifying with.
When Barack is re-elected, it will be another landslide. I believe in the people of America to make the best choice for all involved. It wasn't McCain and it sure isn't Mitt. Kudos to your party for choosing a weak candidate.

I'd be more interested for him to explain how Romney's severe tax cut and military spend proposals will decrease the deficit (never mind run a surplus). His spend cuts, assuming he'd be able to implement them (esp on medicare and SS), will take a long long time to take effect. Tax cuts and spend boosts would be much more near term.

If you want jobs created, Romney or Obama or not the people for that.
Romney and Obama are both huge on private sector, which we all know, the private sector is not the best at creating mass-jobs at any point in history.
I think I'll be voting for Romney(democrat here) only because I believe he has more business side to his politics, which we may or may not need, but will IMHO benefit the American people in some other way.
As you tell from Economic evidence, the economy started bottoming out yearrrrs ago, due to heavy investments in the private sector(huge cooperations) and less investments in the public sector/unions.
Romney isn't the guy we want when it comes to creating jobs(as governor, his state has had the worst job growth since the recession)
ILoveTheRockets

wait.....you're a democrat. Think economic woes were due to private sector investment over public sector/unions. Yet Romney's your guy?
Private Sector Corporations, not small business owners. Which you can compare economic stats to the public sector stats.
Since Obama has drawn the attention more so to the private sector corporations, and has let the public sector drop more than it has in a long long time, our economy dropped right along with it. The weaker our public sector is, the weaker the economy has become.
Go compare economic charts since reagan with public sector charts since reagan and it pretty much matches exactly the same.
If economy is the #1 issue, I say reworking our public sector and investment in our infrastructure is top priority. This along with rebuilding our Workers Unions to fit into a modern society that is not corrupt and jails corrupt union officials and crooked pensions managers is a step in the right direction into rejuvenating our economy backed by a solid work force that can handle dips in the economy and gives the American People a fighting chance to have a helping hand in our economic woes.
The private sector is not tailor made to mass produce jobs( Which America needs 24 million jobs in the next 3-5 years to prevent our economies bottom from busting wide open). The Public Sector/Unions can do that, IF they can restructure work forces that made this nation the most powerful nation in human history.
that's all cool stuff rockets. But Romney's proposing massive cuts to the public sector. And I'm doubting he's union friendly. (and Unions tend not be be small business friendly -- but that's another debate). So if the economy's number one -- and you believe unions and public sector are crucial -- he's not your guy.
If you want a smaller public sector -- and you think he can deliver on his rhetoric -- then OK. But that's not what you're saying.

Yes sir...
If Romney is elected President of the United States, I fully expect his tone to change concerning the private/public sector's once he gets himself engulfed with senior advisers, and economist that prove to him that his way is wrong, and one of the prime examples is his own state's work force. He won't be able to hide from the facts once in the White House. What I am saying is that Romney will have more regard for the field, unlike Obama who pretty much has a total disregard, and tried to save face by offering created jobs that won't be there if re-elected. This is an arrogant, ego driven, 'Though shalt not' line, that is actually comical. I never said you were mad, I'm not either, just confused. I'm not even sure what problem you have with me, but it's laughable to say I challenged you in some way. Whatever
