How are you going to remember MLK?

I don't have any specific thoughts in mind, other than taking the day off work. What are you doing? Any suggestions?

How about you throw a big bbq and rib cookoff for your family and hommies? MLK was all about family and friends. Another option would to be to take a cultural sensitivity class maybe?

Usually I just played basketball and drank a few beers with my boys.

Now that I am an adult and do not work for the government, I have to work.

No, none of the holidays that people say are about this actually are, especially Labor Day.

This could just as easily been prefaced by a "My condolences. Aside from the tragic loss of life, what material items have you lost?" type of question. Selective video editing is a mother----er.

Also, nice hijacking of an MLK thread with "random black person behaving badly" video.

agreed. They also put in that CGI laugh and smile. Racist news jerks.

BUT, he walked much taller

Interesting fact about Dr. King

cool story brah..
Interesting fact about Dr. King:
he plagiarized his doctoral dissertation.

Interesting fact about MLK blvd:
that's where I used to get my drugs from

despite his adultery and plagiarism, he did so many great things for the black cause that he would have probably gotten an honorary doctorate and the wimmens anyway.

I work for the government and still have to work.

US gov't saying again 'do as I say not as I do' This is a disgrace to Dr. King.

Interesting story about mlk blvd. That's where the Mickey D's was where I had an argument with my parents during Orientation about not wanting to pay for a liberal arts degree. "Just A Girl" was playing in the background and I thought, "I wish these two n------ would shut up so I could hear this song I heard on Letterman."

Still a radical...

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

"Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."

"An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity."

"It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me, and I think that's pretty important."

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"

"Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."

"One of the greatest casualties of the war in Vietnam is the Great Society... shot down on the battlefield of Vietnam."

"Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men."

"Philanthropy is commendable, but it must not cause the philanthropist to overlook the circumstances of economic injustice which make philanthropy necessary."

"Property is intended to serve life, and no matter how much we surround it with rights and respect, it has no personal being. It is part of the earth man walks on. It is not man."

"Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking. There is an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions. Nothing pains some people more than having to think."

- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Sorry, but as an alum who rode the 30, 42, 68, 77 and 82 and trekked to Scott and McGowen for haircuts my whole time there, I don't think the locals give a rat's ass about the Program. Scott Street is pretty much 8-Mile highway.

I will tell you how I celebrated MLK day.

Went to Coldstone a couple of times and had ice cream, bought couple of pints and an ice cream cake to go.

All for Half-off! (MLK promotion).

I had no idea MLK was an ice cream fanatic.

Lived in Omaha for eight years and most of the MBAs and IT grads at my company got their degrees from Nebraska-Lincoln, Nebraska-Omaha or especially Bellevue. It's a brick and mortar school with a pretty thorough online degree program. Considering it's a suburbof Omaha, not only is this menu likely, it's probably almost impossible that there would be anyone there who you would expect to actually complain about it. And the people up there are all dysfunctionally polite, so you wouldn't feel like arguing with them anyways.

Dude did basically powerwalk in a full suit around Alabama and Georgia for days on end for like most of the late '50s and early '60s.
