Chuck Hayes, C, Houston
To get by as the league's shortest center, you have to be pretty tough and make the most of what you've got. Hayes has always been a rugged defender, but he had his best offensive year last season with the Rockets.
Hayes cracked the 15-point mark six times and recorded 11 double-doubles, after recorded just nine in his first five seasons in the league. But Hayes' value is obviously as a glue guy. The Rockets were a much better team (both offensively and defensively) with him on the floor.
Gotta love the Chuckwagon!

we need to resign Chuck! He's our best defender and plays two positions for us. He's also the team leader.

That's a weak list but glad to see the Chuckwagon getting some love.

it mentioned his improve scoring and rebounding as a strength. it left out his most important skills; he's an elite post defender and high post passer.

I hope some other team pays chuck MLE money and set him up for life. He's earned it.

I honestly do to but ONLY if we are able to play him at power forward or as a situational player off the bench. If we start next season again with Chuck as our center I'm going to be pretty disappointed. Not a knock on Chuck it just doesn't bode well for us if that's were we are.

Chuck is a special player!
A team having Chuck as their starting center is not
one which is potentially an NBA Champion.:p

Well, you can cross one reasonably-priced free agent center off the board.
The OKC Thunder have apparently signed Nazr Mohammed to a one-year, $3.75M extension.
Mohammed would have been at least a decent alternative for the Rockets.

I just don't get this statement, yet everyone repeats it. Chuck is a tremendous low post defender, he rebounds, and he plays his heart out everynight. Would you rather have a center like Marcus Camby? I have a friend in the blazers organization who said Marcus fakes injuries to skip practice and games....you want a big man with that over chuck. I think Chuck is a perfect player, he does everything without asking for anything in a day in age where players are prima's on an unimaginable level. Chuck brings himself to the office everyday and give 150%. Samuel Dalembert playing at 100% of his ability is a better player, but how often does he give that type of effort, that's his problem. Does anyone remember 2 or 3 years ago we threw chuck on dirk in the 4th quarter in dallas and he literally shut him out, the man many feel is the best offensive player in the league,.There really is 1 great center in this league and that's Dwight, other than that, yes it would be nice to have a big man who could alter shots and keep people out of the paint but again a big like DeAndre Jordan can give you that 20 pt 20 reb 5 blk game, but he can also give you duds when he disappears. The chuckwagon is going to get steals, draw charges, set hard picks, and flat out be a pest.....most people on this board vastly underrate the man. Morey knows thank goodness.

Chuck Hayes goes from this..

to this...
<iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/MdEeD79QTJ8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
and his specialty is this...

No way you let a player like that get away!!

in a world with few decent bigs, on a team that was one of the worst last year defensively, how do you not resign your best defensive front-court player and team captain?
