Why do Mexicans celebrate christmas on the 24th

    My family celebrated it yesterday and guess what? I get to celebrate it again today ;)
    I get double the Christmas joy :eek:

    I'm pretty sure all Mexicans celebrate it on the 24th but why?

    We're not celebrating xmas a day ahead, We start the "party" early, since it'll take us into midnight and therefore the 25th. Similar to New Year's.

    Sounds like the way to do it. That way you don't have to wake up early for the kids, they already got their crap, time to sleep in. Genius really.

    I'm Muslim in Canada but Canadians seem to celebrate it the 24th also.

    I'm not Mexican, but my Dad's extended family gets together every year on Christmas Eve for Christmas (small gifts for the kids, gift/alcohol exchange for the adults), and then all the individual families have their personal gift exchanges Christmas day.

    wow. you guys are clueless....we do a rosary on the 24th. to pray for baby jesus. then we celebrate. we usually eat and party, then around 10 we pray, then continue.
