View Full Version : Bud In A Package

I think that with any trade package going out, Bud should be added to it. I'm sure any GM and owner would be happy.
Let's say the Rockets want to send Brooks to Sac for Cousins. Adding Bud to that would make it better. I remember reading that Phillie was big on Bud. Why not add Bud in a package for Iguodala? ;)

Martin in a package.
I'm sorry, but Martin is a big part of our offense. He really is not the problem. Even Kobe becomes a chucker sometimes. Yes, his defense sucks, but he is still a big contributor to this team.

Now Bud is not the problem. He is just a problem that is confusing everyone. What is going on with him? All of a sudden he can't hit anything. I beleive that he is shell shocked from the injuries. He needs to get over that sh!t.

Dude, throw some Miller in that package, and you've got a winner. You start with Miller, and bust out the Bud later on to cap off the night, or vice versa depending on your strategy. The combination makes for a quite GLORIOUS experience, and truthfully, is hard to turn down. Good point, man... definitely trade bait.

Problem is the league sees the same thing we all see, while Martin has serious value to certain teams. Hey, I'm a BIG Bud fan but I can't ignore his shot has been way off. I liked his game tonight but he still is having issues with his shot and that is concerning. I think he will get packaged with someone but it may be smarter to hold on to him and if you're going to move anyone, lets move the guy who can get you more in return.

I see your point, but an Iguodala for Martin package is somewhat of a wash to me. The two would go perfect together on the team.

See I look at it this way, production wise I think its a wash but defensively it would make a HUGE difference and help out Aaron BIGTIME. Again, I like Martin but he needs to be on a team that can utilize his skills better and he doesn't need to be the "man".

I don't really see much point in trading for a player like Iggy(who's going to be 27 in two months) if we're pretty close to rebuilding and starting from scratch...

We just to trade for young players and draft picks(see my signature), and start collecting those lottery pin pong balls!!

Iguodala is more of a now move. It's still too early for what you're suggesting. With the proper and timely additions, they could go on a couple of winning spurts before the end of the season.

Not sure what I would do with Budinger. He's somewhat a streaky shooter, and that's what he's here to do; shoot. If he's struggling and in a slump, I say play him enough to get his rhythm back. I can remember Vernon Maxwell also being an extremely streaky shooter. But yeah, play him until he gets the rhythm back, and if that doesn't happen, maybe dish him off somewhere for a pick or something.

I wouldn't give up on him yet.

So Yao Ming is always injured and can't play? Let go of Yao!

So Aaron Brooks is complaining about his contract? Ishmael Smith is here! Let go of Aaron!

So Jarred Jeffries isn't or wouldn't ever play in a Rockets uniform ? Let go of Jeffries!

So how much longer will it take potential to actually translate to winning games? A long time? Let go of potential and Chase Budinger!

Bring in the players who are tried and tested and durable! Bring back CARL LANDRY!!!

I'm not that high on Bud like i used to be. I thought he had a good ceiling, but lately i can tell he is what he is and i can't see much ceiling any more. He is a Hamilton clone, needs the ball on a catch and shoot play 'needs it at the right spot in the right time kinda shooter'. And he hasn't been lights out either. His defense needs a lot of work too.

I don't think you're giving Budinger enough credit. In his college career, he shot 46.9% from the field and 38.3% from behind the arc. I don't know what you consider great, but in my books, that's great. Even last year, he shot 44% from the field, and 37% from behind the arc. Considering that almost half of his shots are threes, I'd say those are some pretty darn good percentages. So he's struggling this year, that doesn't mean you give up on him quite yet. He definitely isn't the next Bird and isn't an all around scorer, bu he still deserves more credit than you're giving him in my opinion.

Of course I see it, but with him coming off of sprained ankles which are your base in your jumper, it is probably just a matter of time, and looking at his slow start last year to how he finished, that is encouraging.

Those are identical (yes, identical) number to Luther Head and Jermaine Taylor's college numbers, from the college 3. So what's so great about it.

You know what Steve Novak shot from the college 3 for his career...46%. Battier shot 41% from 3s for his career.

Even last year, he shot 44% from the field, and 37% from behind the arc. Considering that almost half of his shots are threes, I'd say those are some pretty darn good percentages.
Those aren't as good as Cuttino Mobley, and Cuttino could attack the basket much better. But they are fine. We need Chase to get back up to last year. The scouting report is out on him and we have to hope this sophomore slump is not due to that, vs hoping it's something that is just mental...and fixable.

I'm not giving up on him, but I'm getting to the point that I'd start giving him less minutes for sure...make him work for it again. It's like, at what point do you take Luther Head out of the Utah series.

H: What is wrong with Chase, why are his shots off?

DM: The main thing you learn on slumps like this, lots of great shooters go through this, Ray Allen missed 17 straight in the playoffs one year, we are really watching and working with Chase on how he responds, still attacks the basket, make the right passes, and compete on D, he has been fading a bit on his shot, and we are working on it, being a little off, he is working hard and we expect him to get out of it.

JR Smith??!! Do not want.

Do want.

He has the ability to explode for 25+ on any given night... he's an excellent long-range gunner and a strong finisher at the cup. Bud can get off the floor, but J.R. has serious bounce. He's one of the league's best all-around athletes, hands down. If RA can renew his focus on defense, J.R. could be a consistent 6th man.

I'd like to watch this unit in the open floor:

Ish Smith
Courtney Lee
J.R. Smith
Jordan Hill
Brad Miller

He has "exploded" for 25+ points one time this year.

He "exploded" for 25+ points 9 times last year. Which would mean he has a 10% chance of going over 25. I don't really think that qualifies for going off on any given night.

Not too mention his highest scoring game in the playoff series against the Jazz last year was 20 points. (36% FG in series)

Iwas thinking more like Bud in a package deal for Igudala. I don't know where this JR Smith talk came from. The thought of Rick Adelman teaching someone defense.....hilarious!

What does Bud have over Courtney Lee?

Serious question.

I can only think of two things- 1) shooting off picks or on the move (which he hasn't been doing this year) and 2) finishing near the basket (though he can't get to the basket consistently).

Lee seems to be the better defender, better ball-handler, and better set shooter.

How quickly things change. It was not too long ago that Bud was the better set shooter.

Well, Chase shot 37% from 3 last year, while Lee is a career 38% 3 point shooter. Lee also shot over 40% from 3 as a rookie. So I'm not sure Chase has ever been better.

But rookies usually get a lot better in shooting 3s their second year as they get acclimated to the NBA 3 pt line. Bud has been puzzling to say the least.

Odds are, though, that he turns it around and finishes around 40% from 3 pt land. That's where I'd put my money anyways...

We should trade him to a volleyball team for cash, then use the cash to buy one of those fancy 3d TVs for the locker room.

My guess is that we will move Brooks, Budinger and one or two of the bigger expiring contracts (Battier/Jeffries), plus some of the picks and perhaps Patterson or Hill for a star if and when the chance presents itself.

He has the ability to explode for 25+, Aggie.

Check his '08-'09 (27 MPG) numbers when he racked up 61 double figure games, including a string of 21 straight. He ranks 2nd in Denver all-time for three point field goals made, and 1st for three point %. He can light it up:

scientifically, lighter skinned people reflect light (UV Rays) more poorly than darker skinned people. Thats why light skinned people have a higher incidence of skin cancer. so bud can't even beat lee in reflecting sunlight

Doesn't dark color absorb more light than light colors?

I think the reason for higher incidence of skin cancer is not that lighter skinned people "reflect light more poorly", but that the skin cannot take as much of it (speaking in layman's terms here).

I think last year they ran plays for him, and he was confident, this year he has lost his confidence, whether it is his ankles or whatever, it is just gone.

He should be a Kyle Korver type at least, and right now, he just isn't.

Sometimes you need some tough love, I think he needs a good dose of pine...

JR Smith:
08-09 (27mpg): 44%FG 40%3pt
09-10 (27mpg): 41%FG 34%3pt

If your stuck on the 08-09 season then we can pick up AI too because he was averaging 18ppg on 42%FG.

JR is actually first in 3PTM for Denver, right in front of Michael Adams and Dale Ellis, who each spent only 3-4 years on the Nuggets. Smith is actually ranked 8th in 3PT% and second in 3PT attempts.

Comparing all-time numbers to the Nuggets is not saying much... How many championships do they have? Zero.

JR is not as good as you are making him out to be. I would rather have Wafer back if all you want is a streaky shooter. Which reminds me, Adelman and JR would get along greeeeeeat.

Martin, Taylor, and Jeffries for Anthony if he's willing to sign an extension.

Yao / Miller / Hayes
Scola / Hill
Melo / Battier
Lee / Budinger
Brooks / Lowry / Smith

You don't sell low. Hang on to Budinger this season. If the Rockets aren't going to play Martin, then trade him.

Players go through this, but the warning signs were there in the summer league. He seemed a bit tentative out there and all of the criticisms of him at Arizona are starting to make sense. He seemingly so much basketball and athletic talent, but he seems content to be Just Another Guy out there and float around. It's not good enough. He should model himself on Manu Ginobli (easier said than done, I know) and play with reckless abandon out there. It's better to go down fighting instead of being this passive guy who just shows the occasional flash. He should focus on improving his defense and cut and drive to the basket.

Let's say the Rockets want to send Brooks to Sac for Cousins. Adding Bud to that would make it better. I remember reading that Phillie was big on Bud. Why not add Bud in a package for Iguodala? ;)

If Cousins can come, I will trade with Bud. I am very looking forward to Cousins with Hill to be our future inside. They will be very powerful and can be the basis of a Champion team.

Cousins + Hill + TW + Lee + Lowry + Martin
After two years, I can not imagine the ceiling of this.
