With a New haircut and a New Season beginning,
Jared has been playing the best basketball I've seen him play as a rocket. Even though it's still preseason, I think he can be really serviceable for the upcoming season.
Although, I don't want to see him shoot 3s
If nothing else than he'll be a nice contract to send in a trade. Hopefully, this is the start of something good.

Who would win one on one, Jefferies or Cook? I mean they are both all-stars, but its hard to call it one way or another...

Maybe NY will give us their 2015 1st rounder for him. But they'd probably want us to take back Edy Curry.
But I've not completely given up on Curry. Contract year! Plus he needs to pay for his entire area code's cable service so he had better get his act together.

He's a defensive specialist and I don't see him do more than that. I'm sure he knows his role and I do like him as a Rocket. When I see him play you can tell he's doing his best for the team.

Correction. He is a defensive specialist who will occasionally score in double figures. Thus, he's a keeper.

No comparison, really. Cook was worthless, as his playing time with us showed. JJ get real minutes at important junctions of the game. JJ is a very good defender, just a lousy K.

I always knew he was primarily a defender, but I didn't realize he was this good until this preseason. He's gonna be a pretty big part of our season, either as a defender or as trade bait.
What bugs me about him is that it seems like he either doesn't know his role in the offense or Adelman isn't using him correctly. I realize he's able to hit an occasional jumper here and there, but he should never be parked outside the 3pt line. That's a low percentage shot, no matter how open he is.

Just you just post 'first' on your own OP? lmao.
I like Jeffries in the way that I like that even our 3rd string throw-ins have legit uses on the court.

same way i feel
he's a good defensive option to have...unfortuntely getting overpaid did make him look worse than he really is....hes got great height and i think hiw wingspan is 7'1....still hope they can re-sign him as an alternative to chuck at the back up Pf spot. I think he's somewhat of a content free-spirit and therefore doesnt spend enough time working on his game during the summer...hopefully that's changing.

JJ is a great role player, and from what I hear, he is also a great teammate and lockeroom guy. The only problem is that he is overpriced. We can find someone that does what he does for far less. He would be perfect for 3-4 million/yr.

Bastard. I'm posting from my cellphone, otherwise I would have gotten in first : P
We should call the Nets and trade him for draft bust Favors.

He aways had good defense. It's cause he was a problem in NY due to his contract, that everyone bashes him. He might be overpaid some but he can play and will help the team if he does. Barely any offense but he's like a 7ft tall poor man's Shane Battier. His versatility, being able to play PF/SF/C, makes him a nice player to have coming off the bench.

Yeah that's true he is overprice, but lucky for us his contract is up this year!
I really like what Jeffries brings to the table, his versatility will help us greatly when we have to match up against ''big'' frontlines(Lakers, Celts, etc...). He allows us to have '2' 7'ft players on the court at the same time.

The one time he really fit in to a squad he did pretty well, then left Wiz for Zeke.
He is servicable.
And he is in a contract year.
JT is the one whose roster spot appears in jeopardy IMHO.

Jeffries's roster spot was never in doubt. Even if Jared played like absolute garbage, there's no way that Les and Morey simply waive a $6.88M expiring contract before the season starts. That would not only deprive the Rockets of valuable "salary filler" in any major trade before the February deadline, but it would also foreclose any chance of Les avoiding having to pay luxury tax on some or all of that salary.
The far more likely scenario for Jeffries from Day One (assuming that no major trade goes down) would be for the Rockets to dump him at the trade deadline in a purely financial transaction that allows Les to avoid some luxury tax.
But, who knows? Maybe if Jared keeps up his high level of play, Morey could convince Les to eat some tax in order to have some extra defense off the bench for their playoff run.

Jeffrie's isn't going anywhere unless it is a trade to upgrade some other spot(sf). Adelman already has him ahead of Hill and Patterson in the rotation and with Yao playing limited minutes and not playing any minutes in back to backs Jeffries becomes our second and third string center. (much to valuable to throw away to save a few million)
Of course if a deal for Iguodala comes around than bye-bye Jeffries but he isn't getting dumped to save luxury tax money.

Do you get out much?
I don't mind him shooting wide-open threes on kick-outs or late in the shot clock. His shooting form isn't half bad. The energy he brings will keep him in the rotation. He's Ryan Bowen with skills.

I hope we trade him as part of a package for a serious upgrade before the trade deadline, then sign him back on next season for the veteran's minimum.

Agreed with AroundTheWorld. THe only reason Jeffries gets **** is because he is paid twice as much as he should be. He's a fantastic defensive role player, who deserves a spot in most rotations.

This!
Jared is a very good on the ball and help defender. He provides good balance to players like miller and scola.
The only thing about him that irritates me to no end is his ability to finish at the rim. To his credit he has looked better in the preseason.
I think Jordan and Jared are going to fighting for the same pull of minutes.
If Jordan can turn the flashes he has shown into consistency then I could see Jared getting dumped for salary in Feb.
If we do get Iggy or Granger it will not be Till Feb.
As rocket fans we should be hoping for 2 things.
!. The knicks are stinking it up at the trade deadline
2. That there are some cant miss talents showing what they got in the NCAA.

I kinda disagree with this. I think Hill is going to get more minutes at the C position as long as he can play decent. JJ seems to be more effective at the PF spot since he can be more effective playing a little perimeter D. Also when you figure in trade value, Hil has to play if he is going to be worth a darn in any trade scenario. No one is going to want JJ for his skills. Not a knock on him, just the way it is.
So unless Hill stinks it up badly, you have to give him some PT for best asset value. Although honestly, I think I'd rather them not worry about trades and just put the best guys on the floor.

Jefferies is a complementary player who finally has skilled players around him to compliment. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him have a solid season with us. The guy definitely has something to prove.
Maybe if Jared keeps up his high level of play, Morey could convince Les to eat some tax in order to have some extra defense off the bench for their playoff run.
I suspect JJ is being showcased to help draw in another team in a quest for a significant piece. February is a long time from now. What will the records be of teams - like the Rox? 6ers? Hawks? Others with desirable players...

He may be now, but Hill or Patterson may earn minutes later in the season like Landry did.
There are scenarios still under which a salary dumping financial transation woudl make sense.

From what I've seen of Adelman, he will always put the best guys for the job in his opinion on the floor.

I am not going to lie and say I have seen a lot of Jeffries. In fact, China was my first time to see him in anything other than garbage minutes. In China though, he looked every bit the part of a serviceable rotation player. He was on the three point line more than I would like to see in the second game (don't know if that was by design) but was really active around the basket on both ends. For all the horrible things I have heard bantered around on here, I didn't see much there not to like and I liked what I saw as a bench rotation player. He'll never be a front-line starter but you cannot teach Height, wing-span and he has that and plays defense like a tall Chuck.
Just my limited opinion!!!

I was really high on Jared Jeffries after first game he played with the Rockets in New Orleans. He finished with 11 pts, 5-11 from the field and 9 rebounds. 2 misses were from behind the arc and I swear at least 3 of those other misses came from easy easy layup misses (that I thought were just 1st game with new team jitter misses)
I remember thinking "I love this Jared Jeffries! Knicks Chick was wrong!"
and then his production wasn't the same after that game, and he kind of became a joke to a lot of fans- not quite Brian Cook status but close to it.
I think what makes me just feel uncomfortable with Jeffries on the court is him shooting 3 pointers. He averages under 30%. Other than DA last year (who was another big player I didn't want shooting 3 pointers) our big men didn't shoot 3's. We don't need Jared Jeffries firing up 3's even if he's open.
I like his defense and his rebounding. Those are where he seems to contribute the most and I think he is going to contribute a lot more this year than last year if given minutes including some on offense- just not from behind the arc.
Oh and I totally dig the new hair cut.
