i think tonights game is a statement game. LA has been talking smack since that win last season on the floor of the Great Western Forum. funny how they don't talk much about the fact that Kim had died two days before and an emotional funeral as well for the girls to deal with. awful lot of disrespect coming from a team with no title to speak of. somebody needs to remind them that they are not the lakers and they have to earn it for themselves, like...oh Yeah! the Comets have for three years. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

i expect dirty play from the get go again from miss leslie and her partner in crime D-nasty Milton. ( they better not hurt my Tina or me and Haley are going have to make trip to see a man about a horse in Hollyweird ). i think a win tonight will go a long way in breaking them mentally as well as most of the other teams in the league. key phrase there most, meaning primarily the eastern conference teams. however, i am really surprised that Sacramento lost to Cleveland tonight. no disrespect to Cleveland, really, but i just really believe that Sacramento is the better team and would take them in a five game series easily.

not to take anything away from LA, as much as i hate to admit it, they are a good team with good talent. i don't think that they have to play dirty to win. but because they do play dirty, i don't like'em or respect them for it. what their missing is a leader. Tamika Dixon ain't leading anybody anywhere. they have a solid front-court and may very well have the right coach now ( although i think that remains to be seen somewhat at playoff time ). there back-court is talented but seems somewhat " not on the same page " as everyone else. what's been haunting them from the begining, chemistry.

Chemistry is something that is in abundance in the Comets and why i think that no matter how diry LA plays tonight, the Comets will find a way to win

SALUTE to LA http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yes. Big Game. I think we can make a statement tonight that the Sparks won't forget. The Sparks players are all good, but they are inconsistent and have nobody they can rely on for two halves. I think that's the difference.

Match ups will be interesting. Tiffany Johnson against Leslie? Or does Van Chance start the big russian to match up? Either way, we win.

Should be a really good game tonight. And a good test to see where our team is at. I'd like to see them come out with defense on their minds.

Despite their defensive minded coach (Cooper), LA feels they can outscore anyone.

I think if we come out early and shut them down, the rest will fall into place.

Sure wish we could SEE this game!!!!!

When playing the good teams, it's always about defense with the Comets. They can score with the best of them, to be sure, but if they play that intense, trapping, rotating, in-your-face, shut-'em-down-with-a-killer-instinct defense of theirs against the Sparks tonight, they should win decisively.

If they don't... hell, they might win anyway. That's how good they are. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/cool.gif

Look for Coop to be very active out there tonight. Here's a quote from her on wnba.com...

L.A. has already crowned themselves as the WNBA's year 2000 champions, so it's probably going to get ugly.

I'd expect Cooper to go out and make it personal - as in, "WE are the WNBA Champs and don't you forget it!"

I'd love to tape this game and watch it later but, alas, that's not possible. Crud! Guess I'll just have to read the reports and box scores again to see what happened.

Well, so much for the defensive intensity they needed.

Coop summed it up pretty well...

I don't think it was a well defensively played game on our part. We allowed them to score 90 points. They recovered a lot of the loose balls and rebounds. They outhustled us tonight.

Outhustled is right. We scored one fewer field goals but one more 3 pointer than them so that's a wash. They got a few more foul attempts but that can be attributed to the end of game foul-a-thon that almost got us back in the game.

The real difference, I think, was that LA got more rebounds, more assists, more steals, more blocks, and fewer turnovers and that swung the momentum out of the Comets control. It just sounds like they worked harder for the win. Gotta give them credit.

Lisa Leslie - sure, I expected her to do well against us. But the rest of the Sparks team enjoyed too much success on offense. Hopefully our ladies will step it up next time and still take 2 out of 3 against the Sparks before the season is done.

Got a question for y'all... Given that we needed all the defensive help we could get at the 5 spot last night, why do you think Tammy Jackson only got 4 minutes in the game? The tandem of Johnson and Thompson wasn't very effective at stopping Leslie. Wish I could've seen the game - maybe Tammy was even less effective, I don't know.

Tammy Jackson is Chancellor's secret weapon against Leslie in the playoffs -- should the teams meet.

Rest Jackson during the regular season so she will be fresh for the playoffs.

i agree, Tammy is 36 or 37 just like Cooper only not in as good a shape as Cooper and needs a little more rest than Cooper. she's got the veteran wisdom and makes mostly smart plays with very little effort, but unfortunatly is only at her best about every third game. she's a quality back up and vital part of the team, but we need more from Johnson and Chakirova. Both will need probably the entire season just like Tzekova before they really peak at their positions ( lets hope ). i think Chakirova will be the difference at season's end. If the Comets want to 4-peat, defense needs to be their top priority for the rest of the season. Plain and simple. It's not as exciting as focusing on offense, but it's much more effective.

Teams are keying on our Big 3 to slow down our own shooting, but that won't matter if we don't allow them to put up enough shots on their end of the court.

Also, a good, strong defense will lead to easy baskets (fast breaks) where the double and tripple teams just cannot set up.

So let's all start chanting, thinking, eating, sleeping D-E-F-E-N-S-E!
