the wnba.com has posted a straw poll for the early MVP picks.

Currently (as of my vote), our girl Sheryl Swoopes leads the voting with just over 57%. The only other player with double-digit votes is Chamique Holdsclaw with just over 20%. The other "nominees" are Katie Smith, Yolanda Griffith, Lisa Leslie, Natalie Williams, and Brandy Reed.

Coop didn't even make the ballot. *sigh* Oh, well... I still believe this is Sheryl's season!!!

She will make it.

I wonder when the WNBA will have awards for 6th man (or should I say best woman), and most improved player. I think Tina Thompson has been the MIP so far.

Let me tell you this... I don't care.

You make an interesting point Calvin23. I think Tina has brought her game up a notch every season too! She plays a great game and has been the best draft pick ever to come to the Comets.

However, you can almost argue that Swoopes deserves a MIP award. I mean, the first year, she was hardly a "force" in the few games she played after the birth of her son Jordan (though few would have believed she could contribute at all).

The following year she played wonderfully (the Sheryl Swoopes we were all hoping to see the year the WNBA started), "earning" her ring and trophy.

Last year she took her game to yet another level - sharpening her defensive skills to go with her awesome offensive skills.

And this year ... well ... she's my vote for MVP (probably should have gotten it last year).

Now ... if you look at it all together, you can see just how much she has improved each and every season, adding so much to her game since sitting out most of the first season.

Whadaa ya think?

I'm a die-hard Swoopes fan, sitting here in my Air Swoopes high tops, and think she should get almost every award ever even dreamed of (though she's obviously NOT a 6th man)!!!

;+)

Hmm. hard to give a most improved award to a player who was All-WNBA 1st Team in her first 2 seasons. Another Thompson however, Alicia Thompson from Texas Tech and now the Fever has finally gotten to prove she belongs in the league. Former Comet Kara Wolters is also another consideration.
